I bought this product a little over a year ago. Have used it frequently since until it stopped working the other day. I’m a couple of months out of warranty so thought stuff it I’ll cut the back open and find out why it’s not working. These are created so poorly and cheaply lots of the cable inside isn’t sheathed and insulated. This resulted in one of the cables breaking and shorting out. Nearly causing a fire.I frequently threw this product on the bonnet of my car while surfing or stopped to keep my battery running the fridges topped up. If I had come back to my car burnt down I’m sure bcf wouldn’t be footing the bill as it was their dodgy product that caused it.DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Good blanket, rubbish controller

Blanket is good, controller is not.Included PWM controller seems to set the voltage a bit high, and surprised it's not lithium compatible considering that's the current trend.. (flogging old stock?)I replaced it with a Victron controller and pleasantly surprised at the blanket output. 135w overcast day.The 3x3 layout means it folds down quite small, but makes it tricky to stand-up or hang for more direct sun.

Judge a solar panel by shade! Not full sun!

So I currently have 4 solar panels / blankets as our family runs 2 x fridges, lights phones ect. So have always been unable to keep the food cold after day 3…not because of the scorching hot sunny days….but the days with cloud, or the camping spot has shade ect. This panel had no problems cranking out 12-14amps in full sun….what impressed me was even in shade it was still producing a respectable 4-6amps….meaning during shade time it simply negated the negative impact of the battery drainage from the fridges. …. Highly recommend - the MPPT charger is amazing for the price point!

Ok but hard to setup for direct sun
31 August 2023

1st one output dropped 50% withing the first month. replaced under warranty. Controller is lithium compatible but will need to buy 2 extra bits to program controller that BCF doesn't sell. Either MT50 or Bluetooth adapter are req. android app is 'Epever Pair' from epever site only. Made up a lightweight frame to hang blanket from to directly face sun instead of propped on ground and assorted things.

Pulls 9-10amps!
3 August 2020

Really happy with this blanket, bought it on the 18/07/20 from Hervey Bay for a same day and last minute trip to K'Gari along with the xtm battery box and a 105ah century agm. Ran my 1978 Engel fridge over 3 days on the island and got through fine with just the battery off the shelf and charging it with the blanket a few times while fishing. Made for a great weekend away and was exciting because I've never used solar before and my first experience with the xtm 200w blanket was awesome!Note: the dcdc charger in the pics was bought after the K'Gari weekend to further set-up my dual battery system along with the blanket. First run through the charger the blanket was pulling 9amps. It also pulled 9.9-10amps on the weekend just gone (02/08/20) out camping again, this ... MoreReally happy with this blanket, bought it on the 18/07/20 from Hervey Bay for a same day and last minute trip to K'Gari along with the xtm battery box and a 105ah century agm. Highly recommend it and worth the club price!Cheers

Surprisingly powerful blanket
2 December 2021

I thought I'd need to spend a load more on a higher-end blanket to be able to pull 16 amps (~200w @ 12v). I was surprised when I plugged it into my controller to see it pull off 16 amps (in decent sunlight, in cool air) quite easily. It's a little clunky to move about, but the weight is ace for it's power rating and packs up nicely. Sure, moving a solid solar panel is easier, but it'll weigh 5x-10x more and won't pack up so nice.Like any other blanket, it's comes with a silly little 20a PWM controller which I immediately ditched and replaced with a proper MPPT controller on a LiFePO4 battery. This is normal for blankets, I noticed some people complained about the blanket not supporting lithium batteries, etc - well, just because it includes a little min-spec ... MoreI thought I'd need to spend a load more on a higher-end blanket to be able to pull 16 amps (~200w @ 12v). Works well.

I purchased as an affordable solar option that I could use either camping, or with our van, primarily running just a 12v fridge and the occasional light/small usb charger. So far it works well. First trip away we were plagued by overcast/drizzly weather so didn't get a real chance to test it so I set it up in the back yard to get an idea on performance.First test was in full morning sun over 2 x hrs, from 0915-1115hrs, just laying flat on the ground. It floated between 6-10.5amps, mostly sitting around 7-8amps and supplied a total of 14.3ah, however the batteries reached full charge at some point in the second hr so the output was limited a bit. I tested propping it up to get better sun but the output difference was minimal. I tested propping it up to get better sun but the output difference was minimal. Covering one panel dropped output from 6.5-4amps. Covering two panels dropped down to 2.5-3amps. The blanket still gave SOME output in full cloud/late in the afternoon but it was under 1amp.2nd test I left it set up on the bonnet when I went to work, in the same spot from 0730-1630hrs, with a cff45 (Already down to temp with a few beers and a 2L bottle of tap water placed in it) running in the vehicle. However it only got good sun until around 1100hrs with increasing shade cover as the day went on. When I got home the blanket was almost fully in the shade and a rag had blown over the top of 1 x panel, output was down to around 1amp and both the batteries full. Panels had still produced 16.1ah over the day however I would suspect most of the day the batteries were at full charge so the panel output reduced. Over the same period, the fridge only chewed 6.5ah, so even in average conditions, the blanket would easily keep the batteries topped up. Keen to see how it lasts!

XTM Solar Blanket - great product and value
3 May 2024

Easy to set up and use, it came with all the necessary attachments, and the carry case was very helpful making it compact for squeezing in the car for camping. The size was great as it captured large amounts of sun and could be angled easily to fit on a car/table for the best action. A very minor downside is the length of the included cable could be longer but otherwise no issues.

really happy - know how to use with power station
17 April 2024

I am very happy with this solar blanket. I just wanted to point out issues when using it will a power station which has its own controller. i.e. not like charging a batter. In my case I have a Bluetti EB70 power station which has its own controller so you do NOT use the MPPT controller that comes with the solar blanket as the power station typically has its own.The other issue I found was the power station used a power cable with MC4 connector. The XTM uses an Anderson plug. So I bought an Anderson to MC4 cable from an auto-electrical store. NOW here was the catch ... the Anderson-MC4 cable had the MC4 connectors in reverse i.e. positive to negative and v.v.So I checked with an electrician friend who confirmed to reverse the wires at the Anderson plug end. I did that and checked the polarity with a multi-meter and it was correct. So the XTM solar blanket connected from the Anderson-MC4 cable to the Bluetti MC4 charging cable and it works.

what a great product
18 December 2023

i bought this for my simple 12v system to enhance long stays as we only have a 100AH AGM battery and on hot days the fridge can really draw some amps. with this blanket i was able to run my centre console fridge as well as our 50 litre chest fridge and it still charged the battery. absolutely impressed with the performance and build quality XTM hit it out of the park
