The Yamaha APX600 Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar combines incredible comfort, easy top-fret access and an incredible sound ready for all stages in your life. Now featuring a distinct oval abalone rosette, the new APX600 will strike a chord with any recreational acoustic player that wants to plug-in. As an electric guitarist in the '80s, if you wanted to play acoustic on stage there were few options available. In 1987, Yamaha made the first acoustic guitar that could be taken from a guitar rack, plugged in and played at volume, problem free; no more howling feedback, misplaced mics or dreaded extended sound checks. The latest APX600 features a unique under-saddle piezo pickup, the Yamaha proprietary SRT transducer featured in the highly-acclaimed A Series range, a natural tone and the feedback rejection and mix-friendly sound guitarists crave. Although its style has evolved, the essence of the APX remains the same. Today, it boasts a more natural look, a deeper body for better bass response and greater volume, and a new non-scalloped bracing pattern for a responsive, dynamic tone.

I wanted an electric acoustic for my guitar collection and really knew little about the selctions. I knew I did not want to spenad a lot. A nice sales member suggested the Yamaha APX 600. Well, I took his suggestion and it arrived yesterday. All I can say is it plays very easy. The neck is perfect in width and the quality is of top notch. AMS has never recommended a bad item yet to me. I highly recommend this Yamaha and I can save you research time this is the best selection for someone that does not want to break the bank. Plus, the no credit check zero percent interest plans are perfect to paying for it over time. Remember, Yamaha APX 600 + AMS= BUY!

Got this guitar to try my hand at clawhammer style. The tone is excellent, in my opinion... absolutely fantastic. Having owned a Yahmaha acoustic years ago, this was a deciding factor. Built in preamp is a bit "tinny" and thin or too muddy but that isn't why I got it. I have microphones if I decide to record. The action is a little high in the upper registers, but not bad by any means... I don't have any intention on playing the upper frets . For clawhammer I find the action a little beneficial. The neck feels great in the hand and is very playable. Frets are rough on the ends Intonation is lacking... easily the guitar's biggest negative. I will be looking into fixes for this. Nothing worse than sounding out of tune while being in tune with open strings. Not a bad ... MoreGot this guitar to try my hand at clawhammer style. I've been after a replacement for my dirt cheap Chord acoustic for some time. The APX 600 is highly rated and is at a price that was within my budget, so I thought I'd give it a go. I have to say that the reviews were right and I was not disappointed! The price may not be high but that doesn't mean the quality has suffered. The guitar looks absolutely fantastic in oriental blue burst and the finish is excellent throughout. I also play electric guitar frequently, so the APX 600's slim neck and body make it the perfect size for quick and easy transitions between the two.As for the sound, it is absolutely spot on. There is no need to worry that the slimmer body causes any loss in the low tones, because that isn't the case at all. The built-in equaliser allows for complete tone customisation, so you can tweak it to whatever song or style you want to play.On piece of advice I'll give is to buy a new set of quality strings along with the guitar. The included strings are ok to try it out, but feel a bit "scratchy" to me. Putting a set of D'Addarios on it made a great guitar sound even better!Overall I just can't fault this guitar. Great quality, great sound, great comfort. Highly recommended!

Almost perfect

The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the action. It's just a little too high. Other than that, I love it. It's a very nice looking acoustic for the money. It stays in tune extremely well and I was shocked at how full the sound was even with such a thin body. Sounds even better plugged in. The thinner body is super comfortable to handle and hold. It makes the transition from electric to acoustic very easy. The built in tuner is one of my favorite features. It works great and seems to be as accurate as any other tuner I've ever used. Overall, I would recommend this acoustic to anyone on a budget looking for a great sounding and feeling acoustic who doesn't mind the action a little on the higher side. (Side Note - I might be too critical on the action since ... MoreThe only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the action. It's just a little too high. Other than that, I love it. Rediscovering guitar playing and so purchased this guitar. It’s got a great sound and the fret action is very kind to someone who hasn’t played for some time. Looking forward to rediscovering some of my old songs I used to play. I also purchased the soft guitar cover for this guitar which is great as don’t want to keep it in the boxWould highly recommend and it won’t cost a fortune so good for all budgets

This is my first guitar so this is gonna be coming from a beginners perspective. I think that this is a good guitar for new people. For starters it's an acoustic electric guitar which it's great having options starting a new hobby. Some other things that beginners will appreciate is that it has a tuner built in, and it's a little slimmer than some other acoustic guitars. Which makes handling it a little easier for new comers. It's pretty cheap too. Which is really great for people who might pick this up and put it down after a month and never touch it again. As for the guitar itself, it sounds great! I played a couple of different guitars and I liked the sound of this one over two other guitars I was looking at. Definitely recommend. Two side notes incase you're new like me and don't know much about guitars. The guitar jack is at the bottom of the guitar where you hook the strap on to, and you press IN the button to pop out the batteries, you don't pull.

Review of Yamaha APX600 Natural

Very nice and easy to play. Wanted an acoustic that played like my electric. Having small hands I can't get on with standard size acoustic necks, the small neck makes this guitar very playable. Smaller body helps too. Doesn't have the 'boom of a dreadnaught but then again it's not a dreadnaught. If you want to fill the room with sound just amplify it. I think it sounds better through an amp than acoustic.

Tuner unit was an old one.
4 September 2022

The APX600 just arrived promptly and in good order. However, the tuner unit is not from the APX600, which should be digital. This one was set up with an old model tuner unit with arrows for tuning, and doesn't work when connected to the amplifier. The real APX600 tuner is digital and shows the notes when tuning. This one isn't. Hope Better Music fix this, as I am going to ring them on Monday.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this guitar.

I have been playing, as an amiture, for sixty years. I own several guitars. I bought this one a couple of years ago as a retirement gift to myself. It has always been kept in a case in my home. Never played out. After about 18 months the top bowed out just below the bridge. Guitar Center and Yamaha did nothing about it. I had it repaired myself. It took me a couple of months to get it done. Now the neck has begun to bend to the point that the action is unplayable. I believe that Yamaha is not ageing the woods used sufficiently to make them stable. Otherwise the design is good and the guitar played well until it failed.

After suffering a permanent back injury I could no longer play my elictric guitar as it was too heavy or my acoustic electric guitar because it felt like it was twice it's normal size because I could no longer find a comfortable position for myself to play it. I bought a keyboard thinking that I could still play music. Afterv two weeks of playing around with the keyboard I gave up pllaying. Then I saw on the internet one night an advertisement for a 3/4 size Yamaha acoustic electric guitar guitar with a slimline bosy which looked like a nice guitar so I checked out males and females playing it and sounded very nice so I bought one. It was perfecty in tune and for a guitar of this size it's got such a beautiful tone playing ACOUSTIC. So I plugged it in and it's as good as it sounded on YouTube. As an 67 yesr old man who started playing guitar when I was 16 years old, this is a beauty. I recommend this guitar to beginners, anyone with small hands and even people who want a good guitar to take with them without taking up much space in your car. Yep, it's a beaty.
