For the money, i think it’s pretty hard to beat if you’re looking for a 5 string bass. Construction is solid and QC clearly has a low tolerance for missteps on these Yamahas. Very pleased

Great sounding with split pick on its own or both picks together. No sharp frets on, which is common for guitars in this price rangeTuning heads stay in tune perfectly.Design looks ugly - and I kinda like ugly instruments.

After searching for a good passive 5 string, I came across this bass and decided to pull the trigger on it- that was an awesome decision. The tone on this thing sounds amazing, and I'm especially liking the sounds I've been getting with flatwounds. It's pretty well made, and incredibly sturdy. However, my one complaint is that a setup is basically required. Everything was very well setup upon delivery, but the bridge was setup too high which made plucking incredibly hard. I recently lowered it, and the difference is insane.Definitely get this bass!! Worth the purchase

This is a great bass. I can compare it to a BBP34 I have, also from MusicStore. It is very easy to play, a very thin neck. The sound compares to the BBP, it has the same nuances. It responds well to setup changes. One modification was really necessary: shielding, I covered all cavities in aluminum foil and connected to ground. Now it is silent.I will still replace the bridge, it is not so stable, the string-saddles tend to move sideways. But for this money it is acceptable. All in all a very nice bass for 20% the cost of a BBP - and they sound almost the same! If you want to try a 5-string, try this one. You will not regret it.
I've recently purchased this bass especially I was in the market for a passive bass. and this is one of the best bass guitars I've ever played. considering that this is a passive bass, it's very versatile. it has a killer punchy sound with stainless steel strings, it sounds awesome with effects, it's very useful for recording and live performances. it's an awesome bass to own for any genre. including metal. this one is a keeper for me. if you're looking for a good affordable passive bass with superb versatility, this is it.
I haven't been playing bass for long, so take my comments for what they're worth. This bass is my switch from 4 string to 5 string. It's going to take awhile for me to adapt, but I will say that right out of the box it's perfectly balanced. I was hoping for this, as my (soon-to-be) previous bass was so poorly balanced that if I released the neck it would nose dive until the headstock was pointed at the floor. This made playing very tiring. The BB235 is well balanced, and I'm able to let loose of the neck and it stays put. That's a big plus for me.In addition to the balance, it sounds great. I love the growl of that low B! It's also beautiful. The red color is nice and rich, and looks better than the photo depicts.Time will tell as I become more proficient at the 5 ... MoreI haven't been playing bass for long, so take my comments for what they're worth. This bass is my switch from 4 string to 5 string. But for now, I give it 5 stars.
Really impressed by this. I was looking for a bass guitar to add bass parts to some electronic tracks, and I needed the low B. I also needed something versatile, that could get the right tone for deep, modern pop basslines but also more trebly, Simon Gallup/Peter Hook style bass lines to sit further forward in the mix. This sounded great straight away: set up nicely, comfortable neck, decent strings, good sustain. The finish is great for the price (doesn't stack up next to more expensive instruments, but I wouldn't expect it to) and it feels like the tradeoffs were made in all the right places.
I played a bass with active pickups for about 15 years. I wanted the passive growl. No set up needed! Perfect right out of the box. Sound, quality and price. This is a great bass.
Needed a passive 5 string and thought "how bad could it be". Spend the $$ on this one. I have a large collection of higher end 4 string basses to compare to this. Myself and everyone in my band loved how this bass sounded. Great action, good tone, very balanced. You won't be disappointed. Running it through a 2x10 & 1x15 fender rig. Sure there are better but for a lot more $$.
Very good for the price bass, better than the ones I've tried in its price range. The tone, frets, playability are all very nice and the finish is also pretty. The only think I would point out is the pots (they make a weird noise when you rotate them + the volume knob doesn't go all the way down)
