I've only had the EAD 10 for a few weeks and have been trying all the sounds. For the price you get the ability to make your kit sound like it's from the 70's to hip hop, to some funky weird sounds that are fun to play with, if you ever get bored. The microphone works awesome as long as you're the only one in the room. Being an open mic It does pick up background noises that you can hear in the headphones when you stop playing. As far as using it for live settings, I'm not sure. More than likely you'll have some bleed over from whatever else is going on. How that translates into what's recorded, maybe someone else could answer that question better. - The app works as advertised but with one caveat. Not every song in the iTunes library will be available to play along ... MoreI've only had the EAD 10 for a few weeks and have been trying all the sounds. Not every song in the iTunes library will be available to play along with and record. Haven't got an official word as to why but I'd imagine it would be due to copyrighting. Playing along with any song seems to be no problem as my tablet is set up as an input device and it's been fine. You can record drums into Garage Band if you have a Mac to tweak the sounds even more. - I was looking at close to $2k+ to mic my drums not to mention the additional software and a new Mac to run said software, however this does it at a fraction of the cost. Well done Yamaha, well done!

Easy to set up, and easy to use. Very user friendly. Fantastic product for practice, when paired with some noise cancelling headphones. The recording capabilities are also fantastic despite it being such a small microphone. Wouldn’t be up to a professional standard but I use this to demo my band’s new songs and it’s perfect for that job.

The EAD10 makes recording drums so easy. I use an iPad and the Rec n Share software that works with the EAD10 to create videos of my drum performances.Module setup is simple, and the module's settings are easy to adjust. The included user manual is very well laid out and very helpful. To connect to an iPad a separate cable is required (Lightning to USB-B Midi Cable for iPad) but is worth the cost to take full advantage of the Rec n Share software.

On its own, the EAD-10 is amazing. The built-in directional mics do a surprisingly good job of picking up the rest of the kit. Add a 2 zone snare trigger and another pad for sounds and effects and it really shines. It has tons of customization you can apply to each trigger, and lots of built-in sounds. Can be used to record and practice at home or pipe it through a PA to get all the features working for you on stage. I wouldnt recommend it for high quality studio recording, but short of that itll do what you need it to do.
My band has been trying to get in-ear monitoring set up for a while. The main hold up was figuring out how to get drums in-ear as efficiently as possible. Enter the EAD10. Instead of putting two microphones on each drum, I can just put the main mic on my bass drum and send one cord to our system. Thus avoiding conflicts with the sound person as much as possible. So far we've only used it in practice but the results appear promising. I have a separate snare trigger on order which will give me finer control over the sound and volume of the snare. There are also multiple ways to output the sound from the module. Including a headphone out, Left(mono) and Right out, and USB out. The scenes are fun but generally not that useful besides the compressor scene. At the end of ... MoreMy band has been trying to get in-ear monitoring set up for a while. But when you consider the price it's hard to beat the EAD10.
This is a game changing product! Im using the Yamaha Ead10 to record and upload YouTube instructional and song play along videos for my YouTube channel. What a fantastic product! I watched so many videos before it arrived and its even better than I thought it would be. Make sure you download the App, Rec and Share to get full use of the product! The app is excellent as well! Yamaha has hit this one Out of the park!
I purchased the Yamaha EAD10 Electronic Acoustic Drum Module on behalf of my nephew who owns/runs a successful drum studio as well as being the drummer in a top band in Christchurch NZ. I will ask him for his feedback. I know that he is looking forward to using it. Hopefully it may lead to further purchases down the track for you
I love my EAD to pieces, with a good set of in ears, home practice is made so much better. I just feel this review is needed as it's now supported by an app that's out of date, and has had no update or support from Yamaha, meaning as phones receive their updates it's more and more common there are instances where it's not a hole lot of good for drummers.Another other negative it's lack of real, quality acoustic trigger settings. It's 3 or 4 decent ones, and the rest is junk filler sounds like you would find on a school keyboard and pretty much every drum module using these throwaway sounds to upsale their product. Now this unit has jumped up in price, I feel like it's time for yamaha to at least improve the app, or for a competing brand to come out with an EAD ... This product had received some rave reviews from other drummers I know and seemed to be the perfect answer to amplifying the sound of my drum kit without the having to use lots of mics and clog up the mixing desk with drum inputs. It was simple enough to use, simply attach the mic module to the bass drum, then connect 2 cables to the processor then your ready to go.First fault - the cable connecting the bass drum module to the processor had a slight crackle (no good when my intention was to put the output into a 2k PA system)(I contact Absolute Music about this and the arranged to send out a replacement cable so no real issue there).Main issueThe bass drum module couldnt evenly capture the sound of the kit. I attempted serval different ways to resolve this first using the auto set up mode then using the manual mode, but to no avail. The problem I found was it the floor tom sound was very quite and thin whist the snare was much loader in the output mix. Also I play with the ride cymbal over one half of my bass drum, the mic seemed to be too close in the position on the bass drum to filter out the cymbal’s harmonic undertones. So with regard to the units capability to mic the kit without need for drum mics, it failed miserably.Final issueThe trigger sounds sounded very cheap and nasty, not like a professional drum kit. In short it made my kit sound like a novella toy.
This device is the answer to a lot of problems in the home recording world. Most of us don't have the money to invest in all the things needed to simply record our drums or rehearse with music at home...as well as upload quality videos to social media. While it is best suited for a 4 piece acoustic drum kit, the addition of trigger inputs and parameter adjustments can get you covered in most situations. I have already recorded and uploaded a few videos using the free Rec & Share app, and the results are almost too good to be true. This is also a great tool for rehearsing to or just playing along with songs. It amplifies the track to a reasonable level, and allows you to mix in YOUR drums while playing. It allows you to be more "in" the music you're playing. If ... MoreThis device is the answer to a lot of problems in the home recording world.
