This a great guitar I've owned a lot of vintage and new yamaha guitars and this is great All solid wood and rings out straight from the box. Really has the sound of a vintage with a real quality feel, if you want a high end good quality at a good price this is for you! It's really cool as well thx

Amazing guitar. Sweet, rich and deIicated sound. I revised some of writing last year and wrote some songs with this supreb guitar. I just purchased it yesterday. My mom likes the music from this guitar too. Thank God, I got this guitar.

Theres nothing wrong with the sound, in fact it sounds amazing. However there is a weird white haze over the body at some parts. The frets are very unpolished and scrape like crazy when playing vibrato tones, the scraping noise sounds as loud as the tones themselves. There were also some weird sticky substance next to some frets. Poor craftsmanship, the FG5 is probably way better, due to it being made in Japan instead.
I really wanted to love this guitar but it has been a major disappointment. After waiting two months on back order I finally received it. It has a nice tone with very nice solid wood construction, however, i found that the finish on the back was covered with this hazy white film that wouldn't come off. I also found that when i play a vibrato the string makes a horrible grinding/scraping noise against the fret. So i returned it in exchange for another one. After waiting a month on back order i found the same hazy film on the back and the same grinding noise. This is clearly a manufacturing issue.
I loved playing this guitar right out of the box to replace an older Martin Concert Body composite guitar that just didn't give me the bass and volume and nice rich tone like this one did. I didn't want to put it down my first day with it and I want to play it every day. I love the sweet smell of the mahogany wood and this guitar reminds me of the first traditional western acoustic Yamaha I had as a kid.I noticed some small bumps on the neck that did not wipe off with polish. There could have been some dust or overspray on the finish. I used a very very fine finishing sanding paper to gently wipe the neck and other areas of the sides to smooth off the finish. This did the trick and made the neck very smooth without any scratching or skimming of the finish. I have ... I have friends who own guitar shops and I have spent time working on guitar builds and modifications.I think that you get a lot of guitar for the price with the FG3 and you don't need to spend thousands on a guitar you might not want to take to certain venues or outdoors. This guitar can solve that problem--a guitar you can play any time and anywhere you roam.I have a very nice external microphone to record the guitar or output to the mixer or PA system--so not having the internal pickup was not a deal breaker for me.I say try one out when you can get a hold of one!
I never thought I'd purchase a Yamaha acoustic over a Martin or Taylor but the one I tried just sounded superior! I'm guessing it's the artificial aging process Yamaha does to make the guitar sound broken in. I asked people in the store which sound they preferred by playing a top of the line Martin or the Red Label? Everybody picked the Yamaha including the owner of the store! I bought it shortly after. No regrets after a year of ownership.
This is a surprisingly good guitar. The last time I tried Yamaha guitars was 40+ years ago, and wasn't impressed. This guitar impressed me a lot!The sound is exactly what I've been looking for for the last 4 years, and I kept trying other brands, and kept selling them because they didn't deliver, even after a proper set up.The guitar is lightly built (around 4 lbs, <2 kgs), resonant, and is easy to play. Fingerpicking is excellent, and it can take strumming perfectly fine, with some tasty compression from the small size. The scalloped braces gives this guitar the 'oomph' to set it apart from others in this price range. The FS3 did need a proper setup, the hard bag isn't impressive (to me). If I'd tried the new Red Label series sooner, I would've saved a lot of time, money, and headaches. This is the best guitar I've tried against some costing > 2x as much.Best acoustic Spruce/Mahogany guitars under 1000€, imo.
All solid wood. Fun to use and easy to play. I love the bass of this guitar.
And incrediblly rich sounding guitar with great volume.
