With the FS-TA, the traditional manufacturer Yamaha offers an inexpensive version of the successful TransAcoustic. This innovative technology allows the player to mix chorus, reverb and acoustic sound without the use of external effects or amplifiers. In addition, Yamaha's own 70 pickup system is available for increased use, which scores with dynamics and natural balance. But the FS-TA TransAcoustic also has a lot to offer acoustically. Accordingly, Concert-Body comes with a solid spruce top on a mahogany body and resonates with clearly defined bass, nuanced mid-range and fine silvery highs. This makes the FS-TA TransAcoustic ideal for fingerstyle and light strumming. In addition, chrome-plated die-cast mechanisms provide tuning stability, while a compensated urea bridge insert ensures clean intonation and a flat string position.

I have been playing the guitar for about 6 months. My first purchase was a Taylor Baby BT1. But I have wanted a red guitar since I started and I fell in love with this Yamaha. I would have purchased it without the effects box inside, but it blew my mind when I tried it! I love my little Baby Taylor, but the Yamaha has a beautiful rich bass warm sound. Soooo smooth and sexy. I am still getting used to the longer neck and larger frets, but in time I will get it.I am a small woman - 5ft, and this guitar is the perfect size for my little frame. I'm still a beginner, but no doubt I will be able to play it beautifully. I plugged it into my practice amp and it sounds great. The hall / room reverb effects are stunning! It's so nice that I can do that without using a DAW. ... MoreI have been playing the guitar for about 6 months. My first purchase was a Taylor Baby BT1. Really, my only concern is what happens if the batteries get battery acid in there? It would be difficult to clean out. Will it mess up the wiring?

I bought this guitar from a local shop strictly as a worship instrument for Sunday mornings. It absolutely destroyed every other guitar at the music shop +/- 500 in either direction. I still hold that it is likely the best guitar in its price range for the quality of its construction and sound quality. There is virtually not a single flaw this instrument possesses... But can we talk about the electronics? The guitar is super odd... I mean, if you are odd too, it is probably your dream guitar. It has a poor-man's tone wood amp build in. When you turn it on, it runs 90's sounding special effects out the soundhole, which is pretty cool. Here is the problem, the controls are super minimal. So minimal that you can't tell whether this bad boy is on or off. We found out ... We found out the hard way that when this guitar is plugged in, the battery is always draining, even when the sound system is off. This is not atypical, but it gets weirder. The guitar won't turn off when plugged in, but sometimes needs to be turned on (?) when the batteries are dying. There is no indicator to tell you when it is running low on power, so you might find out on stage halfway through Glorious Day. There is actually no indicator for anything electric on this guitar, except for a sliding piece of plastic that sits under the dials that might be useful if it didn't look like you were supposed to cut it out and throw it away. The whole control setup is just annoying and unnecessarily vague.Long story short, with an electronics upgrade, this guitar would be unbeatable. It has more power than it deserves, almost like the guys a Yamaha are professionally sound-profiling the tops, which is something you would expect only on guitars above the 2000 range.

The sound is nice. The reverb and chorus is a nice addition to the sound. The fit and finish is very very good! Now the bad, this guitar neck is too narrow for most anyone unless you have super small hands. The pressure to push down the strings will have your fingertips hurting in no time. I did change out the strings to 10s instead of the 11s it comes with but it did not help.I am returning this guitar after only one day. Just to hard on the hands..

I was intrigued by the concept from the day I heard of it, but am more a nylon string sort, never really been into strumming a d'nought, so the high price of the first runs weren't attractive to me. Then they started putting the tech into a lower end (though still fully serviceable) model, and a concert form factor to boot, so I went to check it out. I sat in the acoustic room, going through some finger style stuff, then took out a pick and ran some scales/arpeggios, strummed out a song or two, etc.The difference between "on" and "off" is unbelievable. When off, the guitar sounds like a typical decent steel stringer (which to me has never been all that appealing and why I gravitated to classical, they just sound "wetter"). When off, the guitar sounds like a typical decent steel stringer (which to me has never been all that appealing and why I gravitated to classical, they just sound "wetter"). Turned on, the projection of the instrument goes through the roof. It not only sounds like effects, but it gets pretty loud. You could easily do a small gig in a semi-quiet coffee house without an amp, and if you're sitting in the park somewhere, they'll hear you across the lawn.Anyway, I looked up from playing, and there were people standing there, looking at me like I'd discovered fire. "That's amazing. You sound incredible. It's so clear. How do you get that sound?"(I like to think the playing had something to do with it, but I have to acknowledge the chorus and reverb is next-level).I bought it, took it home, and was playing when the little lady came home. She said wow it sounds great! I think I was playing "Ten Years Gone".Then I turned on the effects (they were off). She couldn't believe it. OMG THAT SOUNDS INCREDIBLE.Interestingly, I'm dubious of the guitar being appropriate for a beginner. The projection is so articulate that minor fingering flaws really stand out, you've got to play really clean and confident. But if you've got that, you absolutely will turn heads with the sound of this guitar.Five stars not because it's one of the finest instruments ever (it's not a 3k Martin), but for value and sonic wow factor.
This was something of an impulse purchase during the Black Friday sales, although I had done plenty of research before I pulled the trigger on the purchase. I was slightly worried that the built in Chorus and Reverb would be a gimmick, whose appeal would rapidly fade, but can happily report that it is actually a really useful feature. The extra sustain from the reverb, makes me more keen to play this guitar and it is definitely the instrument I pick up when I don't want to set up an amplifier. If you are a less than dedicated guitarist, then this may help draw you into those extra snatched 30 minute solo jams, and for me that is worth the entrance price. The guitar itself is very well made and sounds warm and played-in with or without the effects. It has a nice ... For those of you who can not get to a store to hear the effects, I am happy to report that the 'spooky surround sound' that it generates is as fascinating as the expressions on the YouTubers reviewers' faces suggest.
This is a great small guitar ! This is the second Yamaha I have had and the construction is top notch. It's setup was fine with low action. Plays easy. The electronics do add a great sound with reverb and chorus. It lacks the booming bass of a dreadnought but I recently got a 000X1 Martin and they sound similar and are more comfortable sitting around the house playing. The FG model is larger and has the normal dreadnought sound. The sound effects add a bit of low end and make it sound larger while adding the distant sound of reverb. I'm totally satisfied with the purchase. I have a Tonewood Amp on another acoustic and has a similar sound (although less options) without the added bulk. Both are fun and dimensionally expanding. The only negative to this guitar was the ... MoreThis is a great small guitar ! This is the second Yamaha I have had and the construction is top notch. Not much padding inside the main box and it had obviously been dropped on the head end with one end crushed. Even the inside guitar box was crumpled. I was thinking I was going to have to return it with a broken head/neck. I was amazed to see that the guitar did not sustain any noticeable damage.
I bought this guitar today in dreadnought dark burst and it is an AWESOME guitar to play and to hear being played. The onboard reverb-chorus feature with a controllable volume works great and sounds great without being plugged into an amp. I can sit on the couch at home or on a stage in a small venue and play with sound coming out of the guitar like I am in a concert hall,,,with no amp!. It all runs off two AA batteries and if you so desire it can be plugged into an amp for a great acoustic electric guitar sound. Teh only additional feature I would suggest might be an onboard tuner and power on/off light so I would know if I left the electronics on or turned it off without looking inside the sound hole to see the light in there on the electronics board. This is the third Yamaha Guitar I bought in just about two years...my first was bought in 1976, it was the FG200...Great guitar....over time, I felt the frets were wearing down so I look to retire it....and two years ago I went shopping to see what was around....there are lots of beautiful expensive guitars and I liked that you can plug in now and play with the band....after weeks a looking around and playing a ton of guitars, I found that the Yamaha LL6 was the perfect replacement, in fact a step up I found out...but doing all the research, my eye caught some of Yamaha's more expensive and elite guitars...less than a years ago I purchased an beautiful Sunburst AC3R...my first solid wood guitar and it is a thing of beauty...plays like a champ...just what I was ... Let me try this! So off to the shop I go, it's on sale and it was a good price...so I took it off the display, pushed the button to "Transition-myself" WOW!!!! I couldn't put it down. I bought it right there on the spot! A vintage color FS-TA model...opened the box, it was almost in tune, tuned it, played it for about an hour...called my brothers to see if they wanted to jam because I had a new guitar to show them, yep another new Yamaha...all they kept saying was, you got a Gem there! My brother was begging me to let him play it, so I had to let him try it, so I got stuck playing his $4,000 Martin for only three tunes. I wanted my guitar back! We all could believe the sound that was coming out of the gem...of course if you play in a band with it, you need an amp, no doubt but in a small area, with a small drum kit, maybe a small bass amp and that $4k Martin, no amp necessary....this guitar knocked our socks off...with there 3 Yamaha's, right now the FS-TA is getting the most use but that AC3R is getting in some playing time too! Yamaha guitars are great!
I have to first say that this review is a little tainted, as my first choice for my next new Guitar was supposed to be an Epiphone Masterbilt 400. For some strange reason Musician's Friend, (Parent Company IS Guitar Center), out of the BLUE cancelled my Pre order which was done on December 1st 2017, right about the same time they shipped to Musician's Friend in MID Feb. 2018. Don't ask me why,,,something about me not telling them I can't wait enough times,,,yes I did e-mail them twice in Feb saying I can't wait,,,perhaps they took it literally,,, So I went to Guitar center in Buffalo NY and of course there were no Epiphone 400 Masterbilts there either, so I went off looking for another $5-600 Guitar. The Yamaha seemed pretty good in the store and I was fascinated by a built in Chorus and Reverb, so I ordered a Ruby Red one. I love the way the Guitar Looks,,,and it was flawless, Set up was pretty good as well. I took it to an Open Mic and I had Chorus and Reverb and a Guitar that didn't like to stay in tune, and I use my fingers lightly, no Pic. Perhaps too new? Next week another slightly out of tune performance, and I have quickly put this guitar in a back-up role. I will change strings soon, and see what happens, but this thing is no match for any of my other guitars,,,from a Tone and playability standpoint,,,Epiphone Masterbilt 500, Taylors DN3 and 214, Godin 5th Ave Kingpin, The Epiphone does not go out of tune during 3 hr gigs!, So I am disappointed, and yes I do have three Yamaha Motorcycles.
Very surprising how good it sounds without any effects. The new technology was fun for awhile but quickly wore off. But it sounds really good plugged into a fishman artist amp. Its got a loud voice unplugged and is very easy to play. I use it for around the house and little get togethers. The action was slightly high out of the box but very playable. I thought about lowering it but am now used to it and it seems pretty comfortable. Am really surprised. Very worthwhile investment. I don't usually write comments but was compelled to on this one. Hope it helps.
