If there is a better acoustic for the price, I haven't found it. I love the feel and the tone of this instrument. I've read a lot of reviews that said the electronics are really easy to dial in for gigs or performances, but I've haven't tested that yet. I've had the guitar for 6 months. If someone were to offer me a guitar twice the price in exchange for this one, I'd have to think long and hard before accepting it. And even then I probably wouldn't.

I'm retired and have been playing guitar since I was 10 years old. I've owned almost every brand of guitar you could name including Gibson, Martin, and Taylor's. None of them ever really gave me the sound { unplugged or plugged} or tone I was looking for. When I saw this guitar advertised on Musicians friend, I read the description and the specs and ordered one on the spot. And am I glad I did. I finally , after all these years, found the guitar I have always dreamed about. Everything they say about this guitar is true and more. The unplugged sound is amazing with the most volume I've ever heard from an unplugged acoustic. And in my opinion the plugged in sound can't be beat by any other brand, bar none. And don't let made in China sway your decision to buy one of these guitars. This guitar is one of the most quality built guitars I have ever owned. Yamaha has outdone themselves with their new Red Label brand acoustics. Order one and I don't think you'll be sorry.
I ordered this guitar through Musician's Friend. The first thing I did was have a Guitar Center tech lower the action. Then I put a set of light gauge Elixers on it. Now I couldn't ask for a sweeter sounding, easier playing guitar. Unplugged, it has great volume and beautiful tone. Playing through my Fishman Loudbox Artist amp I couldn't ask for a better acoustic sound. The built in Atmosfeel pickup system is amazing. And the quality build is great. Yamaha put their best into these guitars. More than worth the price. I've owned more expensive high end guitars and none of them match the sound and quality build of this FSX3.
I have played and owned them all and this will be the last acoustic I buy. I can find no cons to owning this guitar. Sounds great unplugged and simply amazing plugged in. Nice location for the controls. Beautiful sound. Has a "French Polish" type finish like a classical guitar. I'm sure it helps the sound. Even though it is not a cutaway it us small and comfortable. Don't let the size fool you it still has a big sound. 13/4" nut great for finger style. I had a Yamaha LS6 before and I didn't like the fact that it had no controls on the electronics. This one does. You will have to set it up. Action is quite high out of the box. Lowered the saddle, adjusted the truss rod, and put on my favorite strings and Boom I'm there. Yamaha has created a Masterpiece guitar which is amazing especially for the price!
I use it for practicing covers and at gigs, usually bar/restaurant venues with a 10" wax speaker and tc helicon voice live acoustic pedal and a bbc stomp maximizer pedal for a Berger sounding guitar. The action needed lowering and I replaced the plastic saddle with bone at a guitar center. I've grown to love this, it's loud and full of sustain and the electronics surpasses most on the market. Many guitars that come with electronic pickups are just terrible, except this one and the lr baggs anthem. It's easy to play and OM style for pain free old shoulders. I'm 68. Buy it!
Great tone, good feel, and great price.
This is a surprisingly good guitar. The last time I tried Yamaha guitars was 40+ years ago, and wasn't impressed. This guitar impressed me a lot!The sound is exactly what I've been looking for for the last 4 years, and I kept trying other brands, and kept selling them because they didn't deliver, even after a proper set up.The guitar is lightly built (around 4 lbs, <2 kgs), resonant, and is easy to play. Fingerpicking is excellent, and it can take strumming perfectly fine, with some tasty compression from the small size. The scalloped braces gives this guitar the 'oomph' to set it apart from others in this price range. The FS3 did need a proper setup, the hard bag isn't impressive (to me). I've tried a LOT of small-body Spruce/Mahogany over the last 4 years. If ... MoreThis is a surprisingly good guitar. The last time I tried Yamaha guitars was 40+ years ago, and wasn't impressed. I've tried a LOT of small-body Spruce/Mahogany over the last 4 years. If I'd tried the new Red Label series sooner, I would've saved a lot of time, money, and headaches. This is the best guitar I've tried against some costing > 2x as much.Best acoustic Spruce/Mahogany guitars under 1000€, imo.
looks good plays good sounds good , my new workhorse guitar , you cannot go wrong with yamaha .
