The MG series embodies the Yamaha's pursuit of design excellence, and incorporates the advanced technologies, including studio-quality preamps, powerful digital processing, and a rugged, reliable design. For installed, recording, or live music settings, the solid construction and flexible design of these consoles let you shape your sound with confidence, continually delivering peak performance and a high level of sound quality and reliability. Moreover, the MG series mixing consoles feature Yamaha's studio-grade discrete D-PRE preamps, which utilize an inverted Darlington circuit comprising two cascading transistors in a configuration that provides more power with lower impedance. Delivering fat, natural sounding bass and smooth, soaring highs, with very low distortion, D-PRE preamps possess an impressively wide frequency range that allow them to handle signal from any audio source without overly amplifying any specific elements of the sound. Also, with phantom power, MG series consoles allow you to take full advantage of the greater frequency response and high sound quality of condenser microphones. The input channel with PAD switch accepts mic to line level of inputs. PAD switch attenuates high input signals that often accompany mic'ed instruments during performance, avoiding the clipping that can seriously affect your mix. And finally, the MG series benefits from Yamaha's experience in designing pro audio gear, featuring 3-band equalizers on all mono channels for precise control of your sound. High-pass filter allows you to eliminate unwanted low-frequency noise, for a smoother, cleaner mix.

It's a Yamaha, you get what you pay for, works perfectly and I am sure if 3 years time it will still work perfectly. Great build quality, pots are very positive, clearly labelled and well designed.

Does it all pretty well

Takes a bit of learning, and the USB input to computer is marginal in DAW, requires tweaking, as others have noted. Still for a rank amateur, and for this price point, it is a lot of kit. So much less noisy more features than a mixer I had years ago. Fits nicely on a computer stand. I had the MG10XU it was OK, but the sliders on this 12 are easier for quick adjusts.

Easy and solid

The mix table is the first I buy, and I have to say it was quite easy to pick up and understand! The mixer is quite light but seems taugh. The effects are quite good and different. The only thing missing is a possibilty of having a second spot for monitoring (without losing the effect channel). I add that the team was really helpull on the phone, great job thank you so much!

Everything you need in a mixer for a small venue
6 August 2019

The Yamaha MG12XU mixer has an extremely well thought out layout. The designers appear to have carefully considered how small venues would use a small mixer. * The first four channels are ideal for voice, with compression via a single-knob that adjusts the ratio from 1:1 to 4:1 (attack, release, etc. preset at typical vocal settings). * Channels 5/6 and 7/8 are stereo channels, but double as two extra mono mic channels. The EQ section is good, but I wish it had EQ bypass for when you want the simplest signal path possible. * Channels 9/10 and 11/12 are stereo line level ins, and 11/12 can be switched to instead manage the input from the USB digital input. The effects section has several decent-sounding reverbs. The effects section has several decent-sounding reverbs. Probably because Yamaha felt compelled to use everything the chip set provides, it also has modulation effects, distortion, and pitch shiftingnot the most useful effects for a PA, or even for recording, but they don't get in the way. Signal routing is excellent--a main stereo buss and secondary group, two aux busses, monitor out and headphone out. Aux 2 doubles as a send to the internal effects. It has PFL (pre fader listen), an excellent feature that lets you listen to only the pre-fader signal from one or more selected channels. I wish the channels had 'solo' buttons, which let the user hear a single channel with all its EQ and effects. I also wish that PFL affected the main output, not just the headphone out. On all these wishes, however, I get that Yamaha was striving for a balancewanting to provide pro-level features while not overwhelming casual users. I like that it is made in Indonesiathat nation has its problems, but isn't a repressive, exploitative state like China.

Good solid board
11 November 2016

Versatile board with plenty of I/O choices. A little disappointed that the mid-range EQ doesn't have more flexibility. Other boards allow you to choose the mid-range frequency to boost or reduce, more like a parametric EQ. This one is fixed at 2.5kHz and makes it more difficult to get it just right. Hi and low control is also fixed like most other boards in this price range. Like everything else about it.

Mixer that can do it all
3 November 2018

I think this is a difficult starting mixer but I did a lot of research and its used by many top YouTube and podcast shows. It can do everything you need, it took my quality to a new level but Im still learning. If this is your price range, get this. I did the hours and hours of research for you

Very capable desktop mixer
11 November 2021

This is a very capable mixer for desktop use. 4 busses allow a lot of versatility with how audio is routed. I upgraded from a relatively compact mixer so having actual faders for each channel is nice as is having a dedicated ON toggle for each. Everything seems of high quality and they've even figured out a way to prevent a loud pop on power on/off. I will say that it is a large mixer at 12 x 16 inches. You need to have the desk space for it.

The Yamaha 12XU mixer is great, although some sliders and buttons have a "cheap" feel for its price. It works perfect though, just not the same quality as my previous Yamaha mixer from 2003. Glad the transfo is not external this time. Happy to have it.One bad and annoying experience was the delivery-procedure. It was not announced when the package would be delivered, but suddenly iot was 'on its way'. Of course, I was on holiday for a week and it was impossible to inform UPS, to tell them I am not home until this date, don't drive to my little village far awayand waiste your fuel. I tried it by phone and online and it said: you can change address, date or location after the first attempt. Use the code ..... which was in my mailbox at home. Very smart UPS! This is by far one of the best mixers Ive used in a Church setting. Solid build, compact and full of cool features that are easy to control and configure. I will eventually upgrade to the 16 Channel. Yamaha came thru on this one
