Honestly the best purchase I’ve ever made. The piano sample are phenomenal and the organ sounds are genuinely perfect. I contemplating getting a nord because I have used them in the past but having used the YC 88 I am glad I chose that. It honestly takes the cake!

Yamaha covered everything on this board! I had ordered the CP88 sight unseen 2 years ago but before I received it I played a demo and quickly canceled the order and bought a Korg Grandstage. The CP88 was a huge disappointment for my need for a rock band. Really loved Grandstage for live performing due to the variety of quality sounds and great U.I. Great layout, the three main parts - organ, piano and synth are separated into blocks and are editable in real time - what previous Yamaha stage pianos have lacked. The controls are intuitive and programming is easy.The key bed is excellent - feels like a piano, but the response when using the organ and synth is light enough for slick playing.The whole unit is compact and light enough to carry about.Why they put the mod and pitch levers so far away from the other controls is beyond me, but at least you have the option of assignable pedals.What let's this keyboard down is the sounds. The organs are pretty good, with drawbar and drive controls normally missing from this kind of keyboard, but the Leslie sim isn't great. Still way better than the rotary sim on the ... As this is the main point of the keyboard, they should have got it right. Yamaha have had terrible pianos since the CP series took over from the P series. This keyboard has made a great improvement, but still lacks a good punchy rock piano like they had with the P200. A P200 patch would have been nice. You can make a decent piano by changing parameters such as EQ and reverb.Electric pianos however are excellent.The synth and strings sets are... well pretty laughable. None of the powerful layered sounds from the CS6 and you can get much better strings from Roland.Overall it's a great instrument but missed an opportunity to be amazing. Still, seems a better purchase than any of the Nords or the Roland RD series. I'll see what the upgrades bring.
I use this for both live performance and recording. I'm very happy with the quality of the sounds it produces. I'm especially happy with the keyboard action. It is very responsive, allowing me to play as soft or as loud as I like with very even transition between the two. The controls are laid out intuitively making it great for live performance. It's a joy to play. I've only had it a little while, but I really can't find any negatives about it.
I played a CP88 hard for about four years and eventually some keys developed an abnormal increased sensitivity to the touch ( if you played soft it came out loud anyway)Service options are non-existent, so I bought a YC88 and now I don't need my outboard organ module, but the same great piano sounds and feel and ease of split points, transpose ( great for singers), effects, etc
This keyboard is the best I've played & one of the best I've ever heard. It was was made for a musician who loves to play music. I guess there are still a few of us left. After scratching my head, mumbling, & grumbling a bit, the operating system really makes sense. It's so easy now to get the sounds I want, edit them, store them, & recall them. I love this thing!
Overall:I was really excited when yamaha announced the YC 73 & YC 88 model versions at NAMM 2021. I ordered one myself from zZounds since they had it in stock. I'm really happy with my purchase and really impressed with the sound quality of it. I just received my YC88 yesterday and I'm in love with the C7 grand piano sample, there's the CFX aswell and the famous S700 from the S90ES that sounds great. Keybed action is in another league man, even the FM pianos or electric pianos have a good playability regarding that the YC88 model is more for pianist as shown by Blake Angelo's product specialist. One last thing is that the YC88 is a great tool as a midi controller aswell, I spent couple hours playing keyscape & Omnisphere 2 and I'm in love with it. Anyways if you ...
