This is an excellent lens. At first I was unsure of what to expect from it but as soon as I used it and really worked with it I see why people who have it love it. It is super easy and smooth when changing the focus from front to back and vice versa. While it is not a light lens, it is not as heavy as I was under the impression of from various reviews. I now own this lens as a result of my rental experience of it through Lensrentals.

These lenses were a dream of ours to own, quite expensive but after having them for a few weeks......wow. We really want to go back and re shoot everything cool we have ever done! The look they have is absolutely awesome......so happy with them. Super easy to work with...and the quality is second to none.

I've had this lens for a little over one year now and it's basically lived on my Sony FX9 and FX6 since the moment it arrived to my door. The Zeiss CP.3 35mm lens is the perfect size and weight to fit in my backpack for when I need to pack light but packs the same punch as any top of the line cinema lens. The optics on this lens are just outstanding. Beautiful color renditions matched with a tack sharp image really help get any job done.I couldn't recommend this lens, or any of the other CP.3 lenses, more. It will definitely always have its place in my kit.

I got these as an upgrade to the Rokinon lens set I had, and they are crisp and look fantastic! I also plan to use them on a Movi type rig, and the light weight is what sold me on these over the competing Sigma and other brands.I am keeping the Rokinons for when a client prefers the super soft mushy background look, the overall softness of those lenses will work for those folks. But when I want a crisp clean image with a reasonable fast lens, I'll be using these. I
Great lens that has a natural sharpness to the image. Relatively compact/light for a cine lens. Used with a BMPCC 6k Pro and got good results 60ft away. Packed well. No problems as usual!
Incredible lens, they are built like a tanks with amazing image quality. I mean you guys already know how great CP. 3's are. What's nice is they fly nicly on the new Ronin s 3.
Having recently (2012) used the entire gamut of Zeiss CP lenses on a professional shoot I hope to give some perspective about the quality of these lenses, and their purpose. First, one doesn't normally look to casually buy a lens, and find themselves looking to buy this. You either purchase them as a set under the aim of starting a serious production, or production company/business, or you rent the set, as many pros do. This makes it difficult, if not impossible to review just this single lens, without referring to the entire set. Having said that here is what you get with a Zeiss CP lens: It's incredibly sharp, there is no visible chromatic abberation or distortion. The lens is fast at 2.1. This makes it difficult, if not impossible to review just this single lens, without referring to the entire set. Having said that here is what you get with a Zeiss CP lens: It's incredibly sharp, there is no visible chromatic abberation or distortion. The lens is fast at 2.1. The build quality of the lens, it's focus and aperture rings, all of it, is of the highest possible quality. The PL is a pro mount for cameras such as the new Canon C300/500, Arri Alexa, or Red cameras. Or film cameras. This is not a DSLR lens. It's not a lens for a Sony F700 or Panasonic AF100 (without an adapter). But if you do wish to adapt your camera for it, you'll be highly impressed with it's quality. This is not a lens with image stabilization. It is not an autofocus lens. It is a serious, professional cinema lens of the highest order. So, now that I've pounded that in, if you're in the market for it, you cannot go wrong with the Zeiss CP lenses.
I absolutely love the CP.3 lenses. The 85mm is an absolute Beauty. Having a compact, lightweight, well designed, and optically beautiful lens is a huge selling factor for me. I don't buy lenses that aren't build well and these are tanks. Zeiss did an incredible jobs redesigning these. I highly recommend. I use them on the Red Komodo and will soon try them out on the Red Raptor, although I know they will work great with it. Definitely a must buy or rent depending on your job or project. Worth every penny
This lens is my bread and butter. For all of my client work I need something with a consistent look across the entire aperture range. Up until purchasing this lens my primary client glass was a sigma 24-70 2.8, which although beautiful, got soft when zoomed in to 50mm and under performed in other areas.Aside from the performance of this lens, there are two things I adore: It's construction and color consistency. Despite being incredibly light, this lens is built like a tank. I travel frequently and it holds up very well. Because Zeiss improved the color rendition in the CP.3 line, I often rent the 85 or 100mm for my b-cam and have a easy time matching up cameras.Much of my client work requires cropping in substantially (thanks Instagram) and I can comfortably ... MoreThis lens is my bread and butter. Because Zeiss improved the color rendition in the CP.3 line, I often rent the 85 or 100mm for my b-cam and have a easy time matching up cameras.Much of my client work requires cropping in substantially (thanks Instagram) and I can comfortably shoot this at it's minimum aperture of T2.1 for a tack sharp image that can be scaled up in post.I think this lens' greatest competition is the Canon CN-E line, which shoots warm and renders terrible onion skinning on the bokeh. For me this is unforgivable, and I'm happy to see a neutral, clean image coming from the CP.3 line. Assuming this is the look you need, I'm not sure you can get a better lens in this price bracket.
This is an excellent lens that is very smooth and simple to use. The focus throw is very long but it allows for super smooth focus pulls. You can easily switch between foreground and background focus with this. It feels solid but overly heavy. My Tokina 11-20 is heavier. You’ll love the image you get with this lens.
