Just a few minor gripes that add up to meh. 1) When filling both to the 12-hour mark, one consistently burns for more than 12 hours while I don't think the other one has ever made it to 10 hours. 2) I'm using the Zippo brand fluid and they smell like hell. I thought I'd be able to toss them under the sheets on my wife's side of the bed when I'm done using them, but she can't even stand to have them in the room. 3) Very, very tough to find the right temperature balance. The thin pouches that come with them often seem to cut down on the heat too much, but removing them from the pouches makes them too hot to hold. Sometimes. Other times, they just don't seem to ever get warm enough. I don't think they get enough oxygen in my coat pocket, but if I take them out they get ... MoreJust a few minor gripes that add up to meh. 1) When filling both to the 12-hour mark, one consistently burns for more than 12 hours while I don't think the other one has ever made it to 10 hours. 2) I'm using the Zippo brand fluid and they smell like hell. I don't think they get enough oxygen in my coat pocket, but if I take them out they get hot but aren't doing their job. 4) It's worth saying again ... these things reek. On balance, I'll likely go back to the disposable hand warmer pouches.A year later, the edit button is working, so I'll give them one star only because I can't figure out how to give zero. Tried them again today for a 5 hour outdoor job. I filled both to the 12-hour mark; lit them 30 minutes before I needed them and they got nice and warm. After 3.5 hours, one was ice cold and the other lukewarm. That one kept going another 3.5 hours, so a total of 7 hours. So for 24 hours worth of lighter fluid between the two of them, I got 10.5 hours worth of use. Does anyone from Zippo or Drop monitor this stuff? These are either pure crap or something's wrong with mine ... anyone want to troubleshoot or refund these?

Bought this yesterday afternoon as I'm playing golf tomorrow morning and it's going to be in the low 40's...I can't handle the cold like I used to so thought I'd try this out to keep my hands warm.Well, I lit this at 4:00 pm thinking that it would lose its warmth by the time I woke up. Now it's 7:30 am the next morning and this thing is still hot!!I would say be careful when handling. I find it almost too hot to handle without the soft cover. Last night I dropped it and the top came off, and when I picked it up, because I didn't realize how hot it is, it almost burned my palm. Can't wait to get to the course now and have it in my pocket so I can hold it in between shots. I'm definitely impressed by this and should have bought one years ago!!

I initially loved the idea but there were some issues pretty much immediately. The amount of gas it fits lasts for 12 hours but if the unsecure-able cover slips off the reaction stops and you can’t relight it without more fuel. It does get hot, blazing hot actually, but if you have it in your pocket , you know, like where your hands are when it’s cold, it’ll die and you can’t relight it; it needs fresh air flowing over it to keep the reaction going. When you feel it you quickly realize only HALF of the device actually gets hot, the main body doesn’t produce heat, it absorbs the heat that the top lets off, but only the top half gets hot. Also, let’s say you just need it for a commute or even a long walk say for just 1-3 hours, and you’d like to save some of that ... MoreI initially loved the idea but there were some issues pretty much immediately. If you stop the reaction By uncapping it you can’t restart it without waiting for it to cool down then refueling. So it’s that or have it continue to let off heat for another 9-11 hours. So maybe use less gas, right? Great idea, you’ll have to gauge that on your own since the filling tool only lets you know exactly 12 hours. Let’s say you’re meticulous about saving fuel like you might be in the mountains or on a camping trip and you know the weight of the fuel needed in grams so you can easily figure out how much you’d need for 3 hours? Ends up being very inconsistent, sometimes last 1 hour if that, sometimes lasting just under 3.Overall a promising idea, poorly executed. For the same-ish money I’d suggest the Zippo rechargeable handwarmer/power bank. Being able to save heat for when it’s needed is very helpful and you can charge with it.

Whatever anyone says about this product, don't listen unless it's good. This is absolutely hands down the best handwarming product on the market. There is literally no downside to this product. Is it worth the investment? Hands down, order it today. It takes 60 seconds to warm up, and it will hit 100 degrees and truly stay that way for 12 hours. It takes mayyyybe an 8th of a normal size zippo container to FILL it for the full 12 hours, which is more than anyone needs. To be honest, I get the zippo containers with the flip top, squeeze the bottle in there three times, light it and go. It keeps me warm while I walk my entire 10 mile trap line, exceedingly warm. Best part? It never goes out. Second best part? It gives off next to no odor and I never hesitate to take it ... MoreWhatever anyone says about this product, don't listen unless it's good. For what it costs you're almost robbing zippo. Ive bought 5. Given a few to friends and family but always keep a few extra around for me and my boys when we go huntin.
This product is sleek, attractive, simple, and easy to use, safe to use, and lasts longer than 12 hours at max fill. Even though it lacks on/off buttons, it can be filled less if you want it to stop heating quicker. You can't control the temp, it doesn't get super hot, and doesn't blow only radiates. You have to replace the lighting element after a few uses but not that often if you use it less and correctly. It has a nice carrier heat pouch and the metal body is durable. The product has few parts and is easy to use after reading quick instructions. It is safe and is the size of a cellphone and is very attractive and can be used anywhere you can hold it to, and you can bring it to almost any event since it fits in your pocket. It doesn't take much fuel and there's only a faint smell when you put your nose to the vents up top. It is good value, better than heat pads you buy for a dollar and use one time. The packaging lacks in luster but is straightforward and gives key functions and parts, with instructions inside.
I was super excited by the concept of this product and especially that it was made by Zippo. Completely underwhelmed. It seemed like it needed more oxygen or airflow To be effective. ( I had it in a pocket.) I recommend sticking with the Hot Hands packages or the like. The Hot Hands seem to be a lot hotter and not so rigid and big! i would not buy again. Also, please note: once you light it, you cannot put it out! It goes out by running out of fuel. Not convenient or safe to me to leave something to burn out. Sorry! Just not a fan! Totally disappointed!
This keeps my wife's hands warm for hours. I was concerned about how hot this might get but it is not at all uncomfortable especially in the included sack. I swap it from pocket to pocket as I need to. It took a bit of work to light it the first time and I was not sure that I had it running at first but each time after that it lit right up.The included funnel makes filling it up and measuring the amount pretty easy. I'm sure that I will misplace it in no time though so I need to find a way to measure out from a different container.I think that in the long run this will be less expensive way to keep hands warm compared to chemical packs and we can pass it around the family.
When it works, it is hot. However, I have not been able to get this thing to last for more than 2 to 3 hours. Where did all the fluid go? I would fill it up with zippo premium lighter fluid.. doesn't even last 4 hours of hunting or fishing. On one occasion, I filled it up to the "12 hour" mark and laid it on it's side while traveling to our destination to hunt. I tried to light it and it would not get warm. I removed the cover and flipped it and all the fluid disappeared. How?! This thing is a waste of money. Stay away.
I suffer from Reynaud's syndrome, so my fingers are almost always cold. Still, I love to spend time outdoors in the winter. My husband bought two of these as a stocking stuffer for me this year and they are FABULOUS! Although they are too large to use in my gloves when I am nordic skiing, I keep them in my jacket pockets to warm up my fingers quickly during ski breaks. These would also be useful while attending outdoor sporting events as a spectator. The warmer comes with a small plastic reservoir with a spout that is used to fill the warmer with the lighter fluid. You have the option to fill for a 6 hour use or 12 hour use. The only drawback I found was there is a slight lighter fluid smell associated with use. I bought two of these, having remembered using similar units in my youth. The fuel-loading funnel is a great addition, because it allows one to fill the correct amount of fuel to the reservoir. However, unlike the platinum catalyst of the older units, these have a burner which is difficult to light, and which burns very unevenly. I used them at an outdoor event that lasted about 6 hours. After 2 hours one unit was cold, and the other after 3 hours. When they are working, they work well. Don't expect them to last as long as is claimed however. I would pay a lot more for units which burned longer. I am surprised that Zippo has not done a better job with this product.
