Have you ever had a tough time opening up a jar? I’ve tried pretty much all the home hacks from rubber bands to tapping the jar on the side. I will be the first to admit that I have a weak wrist. When my hands are wet, greasy (from cooking), and sweaty (from using all my core strength), it can be nearly impossible for me to open up spaghetti sauce jar. I've had one of these for a number of years and just bought this one for someone else. The silicone pad keeps the (dry) jar from twisting. If you have arthritic or sore hands and wrists, even the typical operation of this can be difficult, BUT, simply aim the handle away from you and bear down on the lid and handle with your forearm. Hold the jar with your other hand (on the silicone) and presto! You can easily twist the handle and get the lid off with just a light grip on the handle. Leverage is everything!It cleans and stores easily. Couldn't live without it!

I swear I am strong, but sometimes there are lids that just don't want to come off.I've done all the usual tricks, running under hot water, running under cold water, lightly tapping it on the counter. Those tricks do work, most of the time.But sometimes you end up with a lid that just won't come off. That is when something like a jar opener comes in handy. I can definitely see it being useful for my parents, so an idea for the next holiday.
I bought this hoping I could open jars without having to bother my husband with it all the time. It works for some things, like jam and pickle jars, which is great.However, I'm an ice cream addict. One of my favorite brands put their ice cream in a jar with a lid that screws on. I have an easier time opening pickle jars by hand than this ice cream. This thing will not catch on those lids, no matter how hard I try. Maybe I'm using it for a type of lid that just isn't compatible, but I honestly was a bit disappointed.
I love this jar opener. I always struggle to open slippery jars, and this product definitely helps. I was struggling a little at first to use it, but then I noticed that I had to make sure to keep it completely flat so that I can use it with ease. If you’ve ever tried to open a jar with a tight lid that you can’t get off, you know how infuriating it can be. I recently purchased a different version of a jar opener that is rubber and plastic with 3 different size holes, cheaper but totally useless. So when I seen this version of jar opener with the base pad I was intrigued if it worked better. It definitely does. Most jar openers only work on certain jars, so I had many different styles. Now all I need is this one! It works on everything! I got mine as a gift from a friend. Just bought this one as a gift for my sister who I thought has everything, but not this. NOW she has one. Well, she will after Christmas when she opens it. I'm sure she will love it as much as I do!
I was hesitant to buy this to replace the one I had for years that recently went missing. I was nervous bc my previous one was adjustable to any size and held on tightly to whatever it was clamped to. Well this new one is tons easier as you just slide it to fit whatever you need. No messing with the clamping part just slide it on and turn and boom its off! It has worked on jars to bottle tops. I recommend this opener!
