But if you're planning to future proof, then ddr5 will be the standard in the future and this processor is definitely will last you a long time!If you're still buying 7900x/7950x processors, just remember to get a very good AiO cooler(I recommend at least 280 or 360mm radiators) to get the most performance out of it since it'll heat up to 95C at maximum workload out of the box without any tuning. I personally undervolted and underclocked mine so it runs at maximum 70C and 145 watts while only getting about 5-7% performance drop.

Beast of cpu

Ready!!!This must be one of the best Ryzen's I have owned,coming from a 5800x to this is night and day. Sure pricey, but performance is outstanding. My cinabench score was higher ((35,629))see pic, I did buy the Gigabyte x670 from BB but returned it once i saw a different one available somewhere else. Many reviews on youtube and across the internet point out that there are legacy processors, such as the 5800X3d which can be had for a lower price than the 7700x, but outperform the 7700x in some gaming applications. However, I have every intention of keeping my new build for 10 years. By purchasing the 7700x, or any processor requiring the AM5 platform, I will have an upgrade path for a newer faster processor in circa 2025. My previous PC could run every application I needed except the latest PC and VR games. 1080p gaming is fine for me.I'm glad I waited for Ryzen 7 7700x and the AM5 platform. Navigating the desktop is incredibly quick and snappy. The boot times aren't as fast as I thought they'd be with M.2 NVMe storage, but I think thats a result of the length of time it takes the computer to POST. After the POST, the desktop comes up incredibly quickly (though this is a function of the storage and not the processor).At idle, the processor cores run at about 3.1 Ghz to 5.1 Ghz and consumes about 20 - 35 watts. My favorite thing about this processor is that the box states the boost clock to be 5.4 Ghz, but because I paired this thing with a 360 mm AIO cooler, under load, the processor regularly boosts to 5.5 Ghz. In my video game benchmark I recorded evidence that it boosted to over 6 Ghz! This won't be a result everyone gets unless you pair this with a great cooling solution and good thermal paste. I bought this CPU the moment I could, and put it in new build featuring an Asus ROG Strix X670E-E motherboard, Corsair 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000Mhz RAM, Samsung 1TB 990 Pro SSD, Samsung 2TB 980 Pro SSD, Corsair HX1000i Power Supply, Corsair H150i Elite Capellix AIO Watercooler, Sound Blaster AE-7 discrete sound w/DAC, and I'm patiently waiting for an AMD Radeon 7900 XTX.After setting up the CPU and other parts, I was able to install Windows 11 in under 5 minutes, and that includes declining the bloatware during install, and the several reboots to initate drivers. Fast, powerful, and flexible

The Ryzen 9 7950x is everything I needed. With top end single core performance and a massive core count, this thing crushes any task I throw at it. The high core count makes it easy to handle numerous VMs as well.As for flexibility, the eco mode power options allow for much lower thermals and power draw for only a minor performance hit. The system is fast and a great upgrade over the 5800x that I previously had. For those who don't know, you can set the Ryzen to run at 65W if you want it to use less power. There are a lot of options for playing around with getting it to be power saving or power hungry, but for most users I think the CPU stock will be a powerful upgrade and well received.My only complaint with this CPU is the boot time. There is about 10-15 seconds of what I think is RAM timing before the system boots into windows. The fans run at full tilt during this time. After that, it boots into windows in 5 seconds or less. I am hoping future BIOS updates reduce that time, but I have gotten used to it at this point.Overall I am very happy with the CPU and look forward to gaming and future upgrades as new generations come out.

Have a 240mm AIO and it boosts up to exactly 5.55Ghz on lightly threaded apps like gaming without breaking a sweat (around 70-75C) but all core it will go up to 95C draw a lot of power for AMD chip 98-138 watts from what i have seen but it doesnt throttle it just stops boosting higher. The all core runs about 5.25 so not bad at all. Amazing what a leap this was from a 3700X. The OS Experience is something you cant quantify you just click and it is already loaded and i didn't think the 3700X was slow although was bottlenecking some games. Got a 4080 and it bottlenecked them all. 7700X is a monster though I would have gone for 7800X3D if it was out. Got this as it was on offer as I was looking at the 5950x for upgrading my rig; however, on black Friday this was nearly the same price as that so I thought why not. Now I get that no game ever will need the power that this thing churns out which means I should be good with it for a long time into the future as GPU's etc increase in technology. It does run hot so make sure you get a good solid water cooled system, I actually got a double fan ML120 system and it does keep it below its thresholds surprisingly well but I imagine anything with less capability would struggle with this chips heat. Installation is a breeze now that they have taken pins off the AMD chips to the same setup as Intel.
