As far as cases go, I was going to initially try out the Apple SmartCase, but for $80, I thought I should at least check out what else was available. I found this case that was similar in design but a bit more stylish and a lot cheaper. Actually I was a little worried about it being so cheap on Amazon, but the reviews were good so I figured I'd give it a shot. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. Case seems to function just as well as Apples and it actually seems a bit sturdier. It's made from synthetic materials instead of leather like the Apple case, but I like it even better. Seems like it would be easier to clean (especially handy for when my kids get their hands on it) and just feels easier to grip for me. At least that's my opinion. But as I mentioned earlier, I do have a windows tablet (8" version) that I had been using as a supplement to my work computer. I sometimes need to view spreadsheets, powerpoints or word docs away from the office and if it's just to check something or make a minor edit, it can be a major pain to pull out my full, work issued laptop. I thought having full windows in a portable, as-needed, format was convenient. Especially since, I would have the convenience of the other tablet strengths of the iPad to boot

I purchased the iPad when it originally came out and loved it. Even now, after I bought the iPad Pro, I use it consistently for streaming video. However, after trying to use it for work related activity, I ended up just pulling out my surface pro 3. I tried doing some hiring from indeed and facebook: after trying multiple browsers on an iPad, I just went to my phone. I tried using Microsoft products....I ended up pulling out my surface pro 3. Good tablet. Based on the fact it’s a 1st generation you obviously know it’s an older version. But it still works just as the new ones. Although some newer apps aren’t compatible with this version. But obviously I’ve had it for years and it’s still in good conditions. Isn’t even cracked and it’s fallen multiple time. The only thing that stinks is it uses the original Apple plug to charge so the only place I can find cords for it is online. I don’t use mine anymore and sold it to my sister last month and she use it more regularly than I have this past year. Obviously it isn’t worth much anymore so I only got $75 but it’s in good condition and she loves it.

Excellent Product, but buy the cheaper and older version for value.

The iPad is a new and is a technologically advanced system. The operating system is excellent, and extremely fast. The touchscreen is very responsive. I myself actually didn't buy the iPad, but I won it from an arcade game, although I had intentions to buy prior to the win. Now, to the cons of the product. The first con to this product is the features itself. Don't get me wrong, the features are excellent, but I see the camera as necessary. I mean, just imagine yourself holding a huge screen up to your face to take a photo. It would just look ridiculous and stupid. Of course, if you don't mind looking like an idiot in public, by all means use the camera function to capture your favorite memories. The second and final con to this product is the size. I mean, the iPad is meant to be a computer, but it's not small enough for travel. The iPod is too small, and the iPad is too big, so that's why they made the iPad mini. But we're talking about the iPad itself. Despite the cons, the pros of this product certainly overtake the cons. A few of the many pros to this product are the: Operating System (Very Fast) Retina Display High Quality Touchscreen The Features Although the iPad 4 and the generation itself is much more superior to competing companies, I suggest you not buy the iPad 4. The iPad 4's price is $650, and it's not much better than the iPad 2. Don't get me wrong, the iPad is great, but the iPad 4 is expensive, so if I were to actually buy the iPad itself, i'd go for the iPad 2, as it is much cheaper than the iPad 4 with the same features, or just go for an iPad mini.

Excellent build, great app market, SUPERIOR TABLET for the money, GET ONE!

I absolutely love the Gen1 iPad. I bought the 32GB version with 3G to connect with my AT&T account. I have tried several of the "Value" android tablets out there and was sadly disappointed in their performance, build quality, and battery life. I didn't want to spend double the money on a gen4 iPad because I don't need the cameras or iOs7, just basic editing tools and apps which are all available on the original iPad. This tablet is the perfect size, a tad on the heavy side, but it is built like a tank so I can't complain much about that. The screen is still HD (although less pixels than the Retina models, but who cares it still looks amazing for less than half the price). Battery life is true as advertised, I get about 10 hours out of it, slightly less when 3G ... MoreI absolutely love the Gen1 iPad. I bought the 32GB version with 3G to connect with my AT&T account. Battery life is true as advertised, I get about 10 hours out of it, slightly less when 3G service is turned on, but not a huge difference. It is fast, the screen is super responsive, and apps run great. I wish it was updatable to iOs6, but honestly 5.1 provides me with pretty much everything I need, and if I really wanted to I could jailbreak it and install a custom ROM of iOs6 or 7 and make it look almost identical as far as the interface goes. Great product, as are just about all of Apple's devices, great software, great App market, it still outputs HD video to my smart TV via the "iPad camera connection kit" I bought on Ebay, so it works great streaming Netflix. All in all, I am very happy with the iPad 1st Generation, and definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence in the tablet world. I own several Android and Apple devices, and this iPad is superior both in usability and quality to all of them. Great job Apple, I know the next 3 Generations of iPads are even better, when I retire this one I know what I'm buying next. :)

Great for Storage Space and Internet But No Good for Updated Apps
4 January 2015

This is an excellent product if you want lots of storage space for music, photos and other media. You will also have no problem connecting to the Internet or setting up email accounts and synchronising calenders etc. All the basics are there and work well. The only problems are when you try and add apps. This is because the 1st generation can only run IOS 5.5 and cannot be upgraded further. There are a limited number of apps available for that version, but I stress limited. The vast majority of apps have been upgraded to be compatible with later versions and you cannot download them. For people that have owned an iPad before and have used older versions of various apps already, they should still have access to them through the purchase history. But if like me you have never owned an iPad before that is not an option. I was aware of this and accept it, but I didn't realise until I got the iPad that there were some basics apps I still struggled to find that I would have liked. A personal messenger for example, I have not been able to get iMessenger working as I believe you have to connect via a SIM card before you can use WIFI. I managed to get a working version of Skype, that works well but this version of the iPad has no camera, so Skype calls are audio only. Which again for me was fine. So there are a lot of benefits as you can get large storage space and mobile access to the Internet at a much lower price. But if you want to add lots of apps I am afraid you will be disappointed.

Needed the ipad to take abroad as my laptop was too bulky. The price was really good and I think I got my money's worth. The 1st Generation ipad is great but its a little out of date now, especially when you see brand new ipads and you know about the features they have. I dont know much about ipads and I didn't realise how long ago the 1st Generation ipad was brought out. But in comparison to an up to date iphone its quite difficult to get used too and you will probably find that you can do everything and more on your phone without ever needing to get the ipad out. I wanted to use it to present work which is stored in dropbox. I downloaded the apps that I wanted but I couldn't get the latest version of any of the apps I needed. I could still use the ipad as I had wanted to, but the image quality wasn't great and the loading time took forever. In the end I opted for print outs and my trusty iphone 5. I think one of these could be helpful if you are travelling or just need it for browsing the internet - No Camera either though so no skype or photos. All of this is coming from someone that had never encountered an ipad before. And has very little knowledge about them. I guess if like me, you don't know much about ipads but you think you might want one. You probably want the latest one. Stuff like this is developing so quickly at the moment anything behind the curve can quickly become a disappointment.

I've been intrigued by the iPad ever since it was first introduced some three years ago, but I had never seriously considered owning one until I bought this one. They were just too expensive and I couldn't see that they could do anything significant that a laptop couldn't do. And laptops have become very affordable in recent years. I had even resisted the idea of a smart phone, sticking steadfastly to my Motorola RAZR until almost a year and a half ago, when I opted for a Motorola Atrix 4G instead of an iPhone. My reasoning was fairly simple: The Atrix has a user replaceable battery and a slot for a micro SD card by which one can expand the internal storage capacity. Of course, it also didn't hurt that the Atrix was free and the iPod cost $99 with a two-year ... MoreI've been intrigued by the iPad ever since it was first introduced some three years ago, but I had never seriously considered owning one until I bought this one. Of course, it also didn't hurt that the Atrix was free and the iPod cost $99 with a two-year contract. So, even though I've been a committed Mac user for more than 20 years, I started my touch screen experience firmly in the Android camp. I continued down that path a year ago with my first tablet, a Barnes & Noble Nook Color, which I promptly rooted with a micro SD card to run the full Android OS instead of B&N's severely locked down version. My experience with the Nook can best be described as one of unrealized potential. Even in its unlocked state, it was a good e-book reader, but not good for much else. Enter the iPad. I was looking to graduate from the Nook to a more 'grown-up' Android tablet when I came across an eBay deal I simply couldn't ignore: a 64GB Wi-Fi iPad for less than $200 with free shipping. After some brief deliberation, I decided to take the plunge on that deal and I haven't looked back. My initial impression of the unit was that it's heavy, much heavier than the Nook. Of course, it's almost twice the Nook's size and has a metal chassis. Having never used an iOS device, I was initially disoriented because the user interface has some fundamental differences from that of Android. The most significant difference, and one that still drives me a little nuts, is the lack of a physical back button that moves the user back to the previous screen. This makes following a Web link from an e-mail message and then returning to e-mail a bit cumbersome because you have to go to the desktop first. That minor frustration aside, the interface is extremely intuitive, as one would expect an Apple product to beand the iPad seems to accomplish just about all of what I have expected tablets to do from the beginning. My only remaining gripe about the iPad is that it is persnickety about chargers. Mine did not come with a charger, but I figured that not be a problem because I have an iPod, which shares the same 30-pin data/power port. Ironically, the iPod rejected that charger but would accept the Nook's charger or the one from my phone, plugged into a USB iPod plug. It makes no sense, but I'll go with what works. In the short time I've had the iPad, it's well on its way to becoming an indispensable tool. Sure, it's a first-generation model, it's comparatively heavy, it lacks a camera, and it can't run the latest iOS 6, but it's far from obsolete. Given the insane prices of new iPads, this one's a bargain for what I got.

It's old, slightly sluggish, but definitely competent
1 April 2018

Yes it's an older device, it doesn't exactly run as fast as newer stuff, and obviously is lacking in the software department while being limited to iOS 5.1.1.. But it doesn't suck. For a mere $40, you'll get something way better in quality than anything brand new at this price point. You can still download old versions of apps from the play store or find old versions of apps online and sync with iTunes. It's not a tank by any means, it's not gonna do everything right.. But it doesn't suck. For a mere $40, you'll get something way better in quality than anything brand new at this price point. You can still download old versions of apps from the play store or find old versions of apps online and sync with iTunes. It's not a tank by any means, it's not gonna do everything right.. Parts 5 star, iPad 1, in general, not worth much when repaired.
5 October 2021

I purchased this item for spare parts in order to fix the same unit that I already owned. My unit died several years ago and I tried to fix it, but instead broke a ribbon connector between the main board and the digitizer. The purchased item had all the parts that I needed. I was replacing a dead battery, that I purchased separately. So, I got what I paid for in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, the cost of the battery and the spare part unit exceeded the price of a working unit. The other downside of the fix, is that there are very few apps that support the machine. The good news is I learned a lot by fixing the iPad 1 that I had.
