I used this with the Unifi US-8-150W switch and UGS gateway and it works great. PoE powered and discovered instantly via the Cloud Key software. I originally had it leaning vertically against a shelf for a few weeks until I ceiling mounted it. Honestly I had no reception problems even before I mounted it.The Blue LED is now the nightlight for the closet, but it can be turned off in the control page. With the LED off it's a very clean an discrete look.I ended up adding an In-Wall AP to a room in the far side of the house to supplement this one and be able to reach into the garage.

I bought 2 packs of these for a total of 10 units for use at our church. We aren't a large group, but it's old an concrete/brick building and wireless doesn't travel very far. Setup was very easy to do, and configuring/maintaining the the deployment is very easy. I opted to install the UniFi controller software on a Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS VM. Default login was simple: https://serverip/:8443 and from there a guided setup. It automatically found all the UniFi access points that were on our network, guided through setting up SSID, security, administrator passwords, etc. Firmware updates to the APs is a snap! Once up and going with the basics, it was easy to add an additional guest SSID on a separate VLAN, configure secuirty, and isolate clients from each other with a ... One more screen and you've configured bandwidth limitations for the group as well. The only concerns I have is with some of the auto settings with AP radio configuration. It seems to want to allow neighboring APs to share the same channel My understanding of best practice is you would try to minimize this. I ran RF Scan so it could identify the interferences, and after that it seemed more logical channel selection... for a couple of days, then things started jumping back to what I think would be conflicting. Another thing worth mention is that by default, the 2.4GHz channel is only 20MHz wide, and the 5GHz band is a 40MHz channel. This means if you are in need of high thoughput, by default you won't get it. Not sure the thought process behind this decision by Ubiquiti. I feel the controller software has a reasonable amount of statistics available for the APs, even without the USG capabilities provided by Ubiquit's other hardware. I can easily identify what APs have a heavy number of clients, which ones aren't, and adjust power outputs accordingly. You also get a decent number amount of info about individual clients attached to the APs. Good quality, easy to use

We bought it for our home network setup because the ISP providers modem keeps on dropping the wifi connection or having low bandwidth. We have had it now for 2 weeks and no more connection drops, no slow loading of content, everything just works. A great investment. Range on the other hand isnt spectacular, but still way better than the previous one.The only downside is the setup process. You cant just connect to it to set it up, but you need to install special controller software on your computer which seems to then spin up a localhost server which in the end you open in your browser. Quite a way to go, to setup a simple wifi access point. They could provide easier way to setup for home users.But again, im happy overall and would buy it again.

Regardless I find this Access Point fully suitable, and would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking to deploy a cheaper wireless access point to keep up with their bandwidth needs. In real-world tests, I found the 5 GHz band capable of delivering 90 Mbps over WiFi to my MacBook Pro (with AC wifi), I currently subscribe to 120 Mbps internet, so for 90 Mbps over wireless I'm beyond satisfied. The regular UAP Standards can only deliver about 40-50 Mbps (They are on HT20 because we have legacy devices). That is my experience and throughput with the devices, and obviously I'll attempt to change settings and get higher speeds.

So far, the excellent tech support at Ubiquiti has been able to help getting the software controller loaded whether it be on a basic windows desktop or a Windows server. Also, the configuration interface while being very powerful is not intuitive at all. It takes some poking around and tech support chats to figure it out. That said, the tech ... I was first exposed to Unifi products with a new job I took at a help desk. What got my attention is, even with 40+ sites in place all over North America, we never have to mess with these devices. They just work.I was using an Asus RT-68U until about a month ago. It was a fast router, supporting all the protocols. But I had to restart it on a regular basis. It would just stop passing traffic. On the day it finally died, I went straight to Microcenter and picked up the Unifi AC-Pro AP and a Unifi USG. Once I got them installed, I haven't had to touch them. Stable connections for all devices. The RF scan function is nice to see what other wireless networks are around you so you can plan your network to use un-used channels for the best performance.

Configure access points using the Ubiquiti Controller software, an Ubiquiti hardware controller or cloud site. All 3 methods have the pluses and minuses. If you use the software, be SURE to backup your controller configuration. If you don't you run the risk of losing configuration capability, meaning you'd need to hard reset access points and start from scratch. That's a pain if the access points are mounted 20 feet up. A hardware controller is best for security but adds cost. And as much as I get the convenience of the cloud, I prefer 'owning' the configuration capability.
