It's been about ten years since I purchased my last MacBook Pro which I use predominantly for business purposes. We're a house of Apple /iOS users simply because they work and rarely, if ever have any issues. I hesitated for a while to replace my previous MacBook Pro due to the cost of Apple computers, and I know I probably could have purchased a MacBook Air and the Pro is a bit overkill for my needs. I don't do video editing but I do use really large spreadsheets for my company and was concerned about lag, freezing etc so felt the Pro with M3 chip, 16GB of Ram and 1TB wouldn't disappoint and was "future proofing" my purchase. So far it's been excellent, managing massive spreadsheets with ease and I can run several screens simultaneously with no issues, something ...Ā MoreIt's been about ten years since I purchased my last MacBook Pro which I use predominantly for business purposes. So far it's been excellent, managing massive spreadsheets with ease and I can run several screens simultaneously with no issues, something the Air wasn't equipped to do. I like to work to two additional screens. As expected, the build quality is unparalleled and the machine is built to a high specification, feeling really well put together. I was quite hesitant opting for the space black, but have to say it looks stunning. I take care of my products so wasn't too concerned about potential scratches showing, but I was a bit hesitant due to finger prints, but it really doesn't cause any issues and I haven't had to keep wiping it, so quite pleased. When you fire it up which is almost instantaneous, the first thing that I noticed was the screen resolution which is absolutely beautiful. The colours are crisp and the definition is exceptional. I'm not a gamer so not concerned about refresh rates etc..., but it's nice to know it can handle it.Battery life is as advertised and exceptional. I can travel and not need to charge it for a couple of days with pretty heavy use. This is a huge win. When I do need to charge it, it's extremely fast to achieve a full charge.I'm really pleased with my purchase and it is an exceptional laptop. For anyone that prefers iOS to other operating systems and hasn't upgraded their MacBook in a while will appreciate the familiarity and quality of an Apple product, and will enjoy the speed of the Apple M3 chip. As always, I'm confident purchasing my larger ticket items from John Lewis thanks to their excellent after sales service.

I recently had a frustrating experience with Best Buy in Beaverton, Oregon, which left me with a sour taste in my mouth. This review addresses both Best Buy's questionable practices and my disappointment with Apple's MacBook Pro M3 chip.Let me start by saying that I'm no stranger to Apple products. I've been a long-time user and have seen Apple make great strides in technology. However, my recent encounter with the MacBook Pro M3 chip left me feeling disappointed.Firstly, the MacBook Pro M3 chip is undoubtedly impressive, but the incremental changes from the M1 or M2 chips are minimal, at best. The real problem lies in the fact that the software running on these machines doesn't seem optimized to fully harness the potential of the M3 chip. Apple's marketing touts it as revolutionary, but in reality, it doesn't deliver significantly improved performance in everyday tasks. What's more concerning is Apple's decision to artificially slow down the MacBook by reducing the memory bandwidth. It's almost as if they deliberately crippled the speed of the MacBooks just to create room for the M3 Ultra model, which is a questionable business practice at best. This kind of profit-driven decision doesn't sit well with me, and it feels like a bait-and-switch tactic.Another aspect that disappoints me about Apple's approach is their unified memory. They claim that even the entry-level model with 8GB of RAM is equivalent to a PC with 16GB. This assertion simply doesn't hold up in real-world usage, and it's misleading to consumers. Apple's continuous price hikes without offering significant value improvements are a sign of greed without boundaries. My frustrations with Best Buy in Beaverton, Oregon, only added to my disappointment. During a trade-in process, they mandated biometric data collection under the pretext of security. Even after providing a purchase order record from Best Buy itself, confirming that my MacBook Pro M1 was bought from them a year ago, they insisted on this invasive procedure, claiming it was local law.I find it hard to believe that there's a "local law" requiring such intrusive practices when we have federal and state laws in place. Best Buy's insistence on this procedure violated my privacy and seemed like a blatant attempt to monetize customer data. It's a clear breach of trust, and I believe it should be subject to investigation and potential litigation. In conclusion, my experience with Best Buy in Beaverton, Oregon, and Apple's MacBook Pro M3 chip has left me disappointed and disillusioned. Both companies need to reevaluate their practices and prioritize the interests and privacy of their customers over profits and gimmicks.

I can easily get through a full day of work, and then some, without needing to recharge. This is a game-changer for anyone who needs to work on the go or in environments where charging opportunities are limited. The display is simply stunning. The Retina display with XDR technology provides vibrant colors, deep blacks, and incredible detail. Whether Iām watching movies, editing photos, or just browsing the web, the visual experience is top-notch. The enhanced brightness and high dynamic range also make it perfect for working in various lighting conditions. In terms of design, the MacBook Pro maintains its sleek and premium build quality. Itās thin, lightweight, and easy to carry, yet feels robust and durable. The keyboard is comfortable to type on, and the larger trackpad is responsive and precise. I also appreciate the return of the MagSafe charging port, which adds a layer of convenience and safety.Apple has also improved the connectivity options with this model. The inclusion of multiple Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, and an SD card slot means I no longer need to carry around a plethora of dongles, which is a huge plus. One minor drawback is the price, as the MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip is a significant investment. However, considering the performance, battery life, display quality, and build, I believe itās worth the cost for anyone who relies heavily on their laptop for professional or creative work.Overall, the MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip is an outstanding machine that excels in almost every aspect. If youāre looking for a high-performance laptop that can handle anything you throw at it while offering an exceptional user experience, this is the one to get.

With its architecture optimized for both efficiency and speed, this laptop handles demanding tasks effortlessly. Whether youāre rendering high-resolution video, running complex simulations, or working on intricate graphic designs, the performance remains smooth and responsive. Applications launch in a flash, and multitasking is a breeze thanks to the seamless integration of hardware and software. The enhanced GPU performance also makes it ideal for graphic-intensive activities, including gaming and 3D modeling.Design: 4.5/5Apple has a knack for sleek designs, and the MacBook Pro 14ā is no exception. The brushed aluminum finish gives it a premium look and feel, while the lightweight build ensures portability without sacrificing durability. The Retina display with Liquid Retina XDR is nothing short of stunning, boasting vibrant colors, deep blacks, and exceptional brightness. Whether you're editing photos or watching movies, the visual experience is immersive. The keyboard is comfortable and responsive, making typing for long hours a pleasure. My only minor critique in the design department would be the weight; while it is relatively light for a laptop of its caliber, users coming from ultra-portable options may notice the difference.Battery Life: 4.5/5Apple claims the MacBook Pro can deliver up to 18 hours of battery life, and in my usage, it certainly comes close. With regular tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and light media consumption, I found myself reaching the end of the day without needing a charge. The efficiency of the M3 Pro chip plays a significant role here, allowing for sustained performance without draining the battery. However, heavy tasks, such as video editing or extensive gaming, can diminish battery life, so keep that in mind if you're planning to push the laptop to its limits.User Experience: 5/5macOS continues to offer a seamless and user-friendly experience. The integration of features such as Universal Control and Handoff enhances productivity, particularly for those within the Apple ecosystem. The various ports, including Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI, allow for better connectivity options, making it easier to connect to external monitors and devices without fumbling with adapters.Appleās commitment to privacy and security is evident with its M3 Pro chip, providing robust encryption and protection against vulnerabilities. The laptop's longevity is also a plus; with Appleās industry-leading support and regular macOS updates, you can expect this machine to remain relevant for years to come. Conclusion: 4.8/5Overall, the Apple MacBook Pro 14" with the M3 Pro chip is an outstanding laptop that delivers on multiple fronts. Its combination of cutting-edge performance, stunning design, impressive battery life, and a cohesive user experience makes it a top choice for anyone in need of a reliable and powerful machine. While the price point may be a consideration for some, the quality and performance justify the investment for professionals seeking productivity and creativity. Itās a thing of beauty, but from what Ive heard and read its been somewhat neutered by Apple intentionally to āforceā people to upgrade to the Max version. Idk, itās a significant upgrade for me from my 8gb ram M1 Pro. The XDR (Appleās proprietary HDR) implementation is a sight to behold. Apple released their liquid motion 120hz display last gen in M2 Macbooks, which I very much wished they had done for M1 Macs, so itās lovely having that now. That alone makes it feel far faster/better.Appleās push into pc gaming is great to see, and this ran the whole excellent game of the year Baldurs Gate 3 really well, however oddly when I logged into the Elder Scrolls Online I was quite disappointed in the performance. That alone makes it feel far faster/better.Appleās push into pc gaming is great to see, and this ran the whole excellent game of the year Baldurs Gate 3 really well, however oddly when I logged into the Elder Scrolls Online I was quite disappointed in the performance. My ROG Ally at nearly 1/4 the price plays it better, although not as well as the M3 plays BG3.I love streaming games locally from my desktop pc rig to my ROG Ally which does a great job de/encoding and handling the wifi, so I tried it using Moonlight on the M3 and unfortunately I was disappointed again - the input latency is worse and it has a tendency to lose frames somehow. Its not terrible and its better than the M1 imo, but again outclassed by the ROG Ally at 1/4 the price.Alright - all of that said - the main reason I am even using a Mac instead of a Windows PC is to produce and play music on the Apple OS. The Apple workflow, environment, the stability, the efficiency while on battery - and the clean, efficient file/folder structure makes Apple computers stay fresh and new feeling. It appears to be the exact opposite in Windows computers which makes me want to (and actually do) reformat and reinstall Windows OS fresh at least every 6-12 months because of how cluttered and inefficient the OS and file structure is! Windows is a HOARDER, and I cant be inspired or as creative in that environment. I guess Im a neat freak. So be it.It sucks, because I am such a life long gamer and it would have been really really nice to have the power of that 13th gen i9 Intel + RTX 4080 combo I saw for $600 off on sale at $1999 (I think it was an alienware?), everything about it seemed perfect for me including a sweet AMOLED screen. So if youāre in a position where you prioritize work/music/creativity/graphic design over gaming - I say go with Apple. The M3 Pro can still do some moderate gaming, but not nearly as well as a Windows machine. If youāre in it mostly for playing video games and work/business/music is not much of a consideration - then the choice is easy friends.
