Impressed. I was able to prune my lemon tree without the use of a ladder for the first time. I had a hand trimmer in my pocket for the small stuff. Next day I trimmed some large pistache branches with a pile chainsaw and broke down the smaller branches with the loper to fit the green can. Had to replace the included 2Ah battery during that process. Best of all, I didn’t have to operate my large two-handed lopers inside the lemon tree causing less loss of blood and saved my new shoulders a lot of wear and tear.No. This wasn’t a promotional review compensated for with a free tool.

This tool is good for lopping in tight spaces, so that you don't need to have large area to open and shut handles to a traditional hand lopper. The action of cutting is slow. I knew this from other reviews on youtube, but thought it would not matter, but it does. If you are cutting 10 or more branches in close proximity, you will get frustrated by how much time is being wasted. If you are cutting less than 10 branches, and space is not an issue, then there is no need for a power tool to begin with. The sweet spot for this tool is for use in cramped locations, otherwise save your money and use hand loppers. The safety lock is annoying, it made my thumb sore having to put force on it simultaneous to trigger finger and holding the tool. I defeated it by cutting a 1/4 inch limb and jammed it in the safety lock so it's always on. I don't advocate defeating safety mechanisms, but this one is dumb because it hurts my hand, thus potential for an overuse injury, thus contrary to safety to have a safety device leading to possible injury. To compensate for that, I simply remove the battery when transporting or not actively cutting an area of brush. Take it for what it's worth, you might defeat the safety lock and injure yourself, that's on you as I warned you, or you might use it out of the box and soon enough have a thumb injury from overuse. Safest option is really to just not use the tool.

I'm over 80, a little over 5' and around 115 lbs and I can handle it with ease to cut limbs above my head and/or out of my reach. My thumb hates the switch it has to hold down in order for it to cut when pulling the trigger. This is a safety feature but it doesn't take it long before my thumb is screaming at me to quit abusing it. I did a work around for that and am careful to remove that workaround when I'm not actively using it. The plastic cover they give you with the lopper is a joke so I made a bigger one to protect the blade and me when it is not in use. I've had it for a couple of month and have used it a lot, enough to cause dents in the blade. I'm wondering about sharping or replacing the blade in the future. It does jam shut at times and I keep a rubber ... MoreI'm over 80, a little over 5' and around 115 lbs and I can handle it with ease to cut limbs above my head and/or out of my reach. I'm happy with the lopper and I'm glad I bought it.

Bought this fabulous tool through the Paris, Texas store about 10 days ago. Upon opening the box was so pleasantly surprised at the lack of assembly. There is included a small branch hook to aid in pulling down branches that have lodged in the tree and it only takes 2 small screws to install this handy addition. Since we have numerous 18+ Li-Ion batteries, I shoved in a 4 Ah battery and this work-horse was ready to ramble. Firstly, I was amazed at the weight with battery which is about 5 pounds. We both love this feature as it is so lightweight. Enough on the weight! We took this masterpiece of labor saver outside looking for large limbs to remove up to and including the rated 1-1/4 inch size. Found one on a mid size hickory. We both love this feature as it is so lightweight. Enough on the weight! We took this masterpiece of labor saver outside looking for large limbs to remove up to and including the rated 1-1/4 inch size. Found one on a mid size hickory. I pulled the trigger and had to step to the side to escape the falling branch. IT WORKED! This initial branch was the full size for the cutters and even had to force it into the cutter. After this I found a similar limb on a white oak and the results were the same. After this playing with this new tool for several more cuts we took it back inside and tried to charge the battery. After just a calculated minute the charger shut off and the meter had all 4 bars showing.Fast forward to the 22nd day of June 2021, we loaded all tools onto our golf cart and began a serious workout for this new tool. Again a 4 Ah battery as we had a lot of pruning and brush removal to do. A freeze in February of 2021 killed all above ground limbs on 12 old established Gardenia bushes and all deadwood had to be removed. Also, there were 3 large, to 7 feet tall, Loripetelum, or Pink Fringe bushes that had to be cut back to ground level. In the course of 2 hours we made over 300 cuts with the lopper never having to get another battery. Please understand that we also had a power saw to cut through the larger trunks near ground level. After going back to the shop and placing this 4 Ah battery on the charger we were amazed to see that there was still power in the 4th meter window. Took only a few minutes to full charge the battery with the charger that came with the tool. So, to sum up, This tool will extend the time we have in our home as we are in our late 70's for my wife and 84 for myself. This tool, the Lopper, has far exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Only 4 stars because expensive, but it is useful tool when you have a lot of branches to trim. I bought it since I injured my middle finger right hand. But I was looking at it from before. Good excuse to buy. I was looking at one hand type electric pruner but this is safer with both hand away from blade. It is better than big lopper since it can be into narrow area, normally other branches bother you. Also I can reach up to 10' from ground without stepladder, thus much safer. It can cut 30mm dia or so, as long as fit into blade jaw, it cuts. I bought only tool since I had drill/screwgun combo. It probably 10 years or more but battery working okay still.
If you're pruning bushes or small trees, particularly in tight spaces, this tool is invaluable. However, if you have visions of pruning tree limbs which are out of reach, you're better off with a ladder and a Roybi chainsaw. This tool will easily cut through branches 5/16th of an inch. It may bind on smaller branches, but easily cleared. Reaching up or out with the tool, especially when you're on a ladder, is difficult due to the weight of the tool.I liked that I was able to use the same battery that came with my Roybi grill to power this tool. It does not include a battery, but if you have any of the 18 volt batteries in your toolbox that will work.
Great tool for my pruning needs. Unfortunately I have to replace the cutting blade. I was really surprised while in the middle of a cut on a Palo Verde tree the blade just snapped off. The tool has been used on 3 other projects before so it is relatively new. I used it on Mesquite tree trimming. My plan is to replace the blade and keep using the tool. This is the first time I have ever had a Ryobi tool break and that's where the disappointment comes in to play. Hopefully this is a fluke.
The Ryobi One+ 18V Lopper does one thing and does it well. The kit comes with Bypass Lopper, blade sheath, branch hook, 2Ah battery, and charger. I find it immensely easier to prune than with a manual lopper since you don't have to make clearance for lopper handles, just reach straight in through brush or other branches, fit it over the place you want to cut, and squeeze the safety and trigger. The lopper makes the cut and releases automatically so you can just move to the next cut. The cut cycle time is under 3 1/2 seconds but you can move on as soon as the cut phase completes in less than 2 seconds. The blade sheath helps protect the cutting blade from damage but will not fit over the branch hook if that has been attached. The branch hook only requires two small ... I have been triming downed branches both to produce kindling and to prepare the branches for cutting to firewood or feeding to a chipper. The Ryobi Lopper is a bit of work to handle at a little under eight pounds but you avoid fighting brush to get a manual lopper in to the cut point and eliminate the struggle to cut through tough branches. Overall I find it a lot less work than a manual lopper and I am looking forward to pruning my dwarf fruit trees with a proper bypass cut while standing on the ground. The lopper is just over two feet from grip to cutter so add that to your reach height to get a maximum cutting height. There is no extension so perhaps that could be on a future wish list.
I'm a fan of Ryobi 18v power tools for the most part and own about 10 different tools. As a guy who has to prune 20+ cherry trees annually, I thought this tool might help speed the process. It did just the opposite. The reaction time from this tool is SLOW. It takes it a long time to run through the pruning process. I can cut about five branches in the same amount of time using hand pruners. This alone was a reason to be dis-satisfied, but just recently the tool locked up. I've owned it for a couple of years but only pruned maybe 20 branches due to the speed. One thing it is helpful with is being able to reach out with one hand to extend one's reach, and that is what I was recently doing when it locked up. I've swapped batteries, tapped, even pounded the tool to jostle the mechanism, but nothing has worked. It's headed for the dumpster.
The good news is it is built tough and works good on the limbs it can reach. I had bought a cheaper brand last year that the pole broke in the first season. I did not have any trouble cutting 1 1/4" Maple, Pine or Poplar. I also cut 1" walnut and Oak ( I just didn't have any 1 1/4" that I wanted cut). The bad news is that it is built tough. It is heavy. I used it for about two hours (on one battery charge) when my arms gave out. It is short. Only about 28" above the handle so you can only reach about 3 ft' above your head. I wish it was longer.
