In celebration of this monumental birthday, the Royal Australian Mint is issuing a special three coin set featuring the three different effigies that have graced our circulating coins, delighting coin collectors, Royal Family enthusiasts and memorabilia collectors. HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE As the first British monarch to reach this age, Her Majesty is experiencing both a personal and royal milestone and the Mint is releasing a special three coin set to celebrate this monumental event. Part of the Royal Australian Mint’s Royal Collection this coin set continues the Mint’s long-serving tradition of issuing coins commemorating significant royal events and anniversaries. The Mint is reflecting on the past effigies that have graced Australia’s coins since decimalisation in 1966. This unique coin set, with a face value totalling 90 cents, features the three portraits of Her Majesty by Arnold Machin, Raphael Maklouf and Ian Rank-Broadley. The effigy design by Arnold Machin of a young Queen in her 30s and the artwork by Raphael Maklouf of Her Majesty in her 50s are both seen in this set on 20 cent coins. The current Australian obverse design by Ian Rank-Broadley is proudly displayed on the 50 cent coin. Seeing the changes through time, the different portraits of Her Majesty make this coin set of interest to all Australians.
