The demand for proof and uncirculated versions of coins resulted in the Mint's expansion into producing high quality collectors coins, with their emphasis on quality systems and innovative technology continuing to this day. Throughout 1919, tens of thousands of soldiers and nurses returned to Australia from the First World War, many of them with severe trauma and wounds. The newly established federal Repatriation Department provided war pensions, healthcare, education and training and much more.
