303 Rubber Seal Protectant Review

When I think of "vinyl or rubber protection", 303® Products is one of the first brands that comes to mind; and for good reason. Since I am very familiar with their deserved reputation, I was excited to find out that they would be releasing a new product - 303 Rubber Seal Protectant. Now this may seem like a small detail, but the first thing that caught my when inspecting the 303 Rubber Seal Protectant was the twist-off protective lid. It's a thick plastic that feels sturdy and won't shatter like other lids I've seen. Now the twist-off cap might not seem like a big deal, but I've had plenty of other products stuffed into my detailing cabinets with your standard "snap-on lid" for these types of shoe polish foam applicator type of bottles and I've found that the snap-on lid will either break or won't create an air tight seal leaving the foam to dry up and eventually disintegrate. After detailing for so long, you really start to appreciate when companies don't skimp on the small details like sprayers or applicators or in this case - plastic lids. After inspecting the bottle, I read the product description directly from the 303 website:Product Description: 303® Rubber Seal Protectant is an easy, convenient way to keep the rubber seals of doors, windows conditioned and pliable. Helps protect against drying and cracking in extreme temperatures, and rejuvenate color and elasticity to old seals, keeping them looking and performing like new! After some research, I was glad to find out 303® Rubber Seal Protectant is 100% water based. Some rubber protectants actually contain formaldehyde, which are known to dry out or dissolve essential oils within the rubber. Forcing you to reapply more of the oil based dressing as a short term solution. This is not the case with 303 Rubber Seal Protectant which contains water based conditioners to keep your rubber in top shape. Now enough with the technical specs...let's actually use it!The manufacturers date on my Mercury Sable shows the car was born on 11/1999 making it about 15 years, 7 months and 22 days old - but who's counting? I'd say the trim is in overall good condition, so I was interested to see if it would make a difference.I gently squeezed the bottle while gliding the foam applicator against the rubber trim to dispense the protectant. I didn't have to squeeze too hard which was nice since I'm always looking for products that my grandma can safely use.I ended up applying the protectant to ALL of my rubber seals including all four doors and trunk. Later that day, I went outside to inspect the trim and it looked great. The rubber was soft and conditioned. There was no sling or excess product that transferred to any adjacent panels. After applying this to my entire large sedan, the bottle felt like it had been unused. Let's take a closer look at the numbers, and see if this product is worth your investment...Current Sale Price: $9.99 or ~$10Applications per bottle: I'll guess 10-20, but to keep things simple let's say 10 applications per bottle.Cost per application: $10 ÷ 10 = $1.00 per application. If we say there are 20 applications per bottle, it turns into $0.50 cents per application. Conclusion: I would GLADLY pay $1.00 to condition AND protect all of the trim on my vehicle with a water based "Made in the USA" 303 product that includes a durable twist-off lid. To me, adding this product to your detailing arsenal is a no-brainer. Especially if you've been ignoring your rubber seals. Thanks for reading!

Good product as any 303 item. However the applicator is terrible, flow is bad, have to squeeze bottle hard to get liquid to sponge, but the worst is the applicator tip. I is round, which makes it difficult to get onto crevices, and edges. It needs to be square and the front tip cut at a 45 degree angle like a kiwi shoe polish bottle to be able to apply it properly. I pulled the applicator and used a thin rage, went on like a breeze.

Excellent rubber preservative

Perfect for preserving and conditioning the rubber handgrip of my Euro Security Products expandable police baton. Prevents damage caused by UV Ray's and ozone. Easy to apply with sponge tip applicator (similar to bottle of liquid shoe polish) with little to no waste. Dries quickly and restores new look to the rubber. Rather expensive for the quantity but worth every cent, works much better than silicone products. Contains no volatile petroleum solvents which actually harms rubber. I am sure it would be fantastic for use on rubber seals and highly recommend the product. Wish it was available in larger size containers!

Good Stuff!
13 April 2022

I use 303 products and wanted to try this for several steps in getting my Porsche ready for the driving season in Wisconsin. The applicator is okay, but I prefer getting into nooks and crannies with my specific detailing tools. The applicator left small droplets after my first pass. They soaked in after a few minutes; no big deal. The directions recommend a second coat after the first coat dries, but does not offer a time frame. I am guessing minutes, because it was almost dry to the touch in about five minutes. It left a natural look to the rubber without any Brylcreem residue, which was my objective. I applied a second coat and now I will see how it holds up. My guess is great. 303 products are good stuff!

Helps rejuvenate seals, prevent leaks, and prevents sticking in winter.
16 October 2021

Water sometimes got into the foot well of my truck, so I tried cleaning all the door seals with Blackfire APC. Water still got in, so I went over all the seals again with this product. The truck hasn't leaked in a while, so I think it might've help plump up the seals so they fit against the doors better and help keep out more water. This stuff also helps keep the doors of my Subaru from freezing shut in the winter if any water or snow gets on the gasket when I open the door. It's easy to apply, and I usually apply it a couple times a year when I clean the door jambs.

303 rubber seal protectant appears to work well. It restored the black colour to what had become rather grey seals on my Lotus; and also gave back to the rubber its flexibility. Mind you, I gave everything three coats no great shakes, really, to get the best results. Applying the protectant is easy and overspill does not seem affect paintwork adjoining the seals. Also, a little of the product goes a long way. i've still got plenty left in the bottle to use another time. All in all, I'm a satisfied customer.

[Rewarded Review] Great product!
8 February 2016

Prior to this, I'd never used a product like this. I wasn't sure what to expect from a rubber seal protectant. But I was blown away by 303 Rubber Seal Protectant! I used it on a couple different applications, one was on almost brand new seals, and the other was on older more worn seals. It did great on both! I felt like that it gave me piece of mind on the new seals, made me feel like I was preserving them. And on the more worn seals with more age on them, I noticed a definite difference. It seemed to add back some flexibility and made them look tons better. I would absolutely recommend this product, no matter the application!!

The tilt out windows on the Airstream was the first thing I tried the Rubber Seal Protectant on. The windows can go quite awhile between openings and tend to stick badly, at times bad enough to leave a bit of gasket on the inside of the glass.I’ve used dielectric grease in the past which can help if not left too long and is cleaned regularly and re-applied, BUT it can be very messy. With the 303 Protectant, no mess, easy application, they stay clean and no sticking after applying.Next was the door weatherstrips on the DW’s daily driver….how they look not really that important…..that they now don’t freeze solid and can opened on a cold Winter morning…..quite important.Bob C.
