4M - Large Crystal Growing Kit

With 24 hours we had significant crystalline formation. The directions are not child friendly, but not terribly complicated. Boiling water is required to prepare the solution, so supervision is recommended. I'm happy with this purchase.

Big Disappointment

This product does not perform as advertises. There is a floating plate inside the bowl that allows only a small amount of water to surface. Thats the theory but in actuality there is not enough floating material on the plate to keep it from sinking. Because the edges of the bowl are curved in ward it does a fairly good job of keeping the water from splashing out, even in the car, so I do use the bowl but I am hugely disappointed that the inner plate does not work as it was intended.

Crystal Growing kit

I received this product for my honest rating and review.I received 1- Crystal Growing Experiment Science Kit. This kit allows you to conduct 7 different growing experiments. It is reccomend ed for children over 10.I plan to give this set to my son for Christmas because he has been begging me for this product for some time now. His cousin has this set and he loved helping him with with it.I definitely reccomend you buy this for children whom love science and experiments. I give it a 5 out of 5.

Cute set/cheap cases

This set was really fun. Crystals turned out great and grew in all different shapes.. was fun to watch them grow and change. My only disappointment was how cheap the containers are. The picture makes them look like nice plastic cases, but they look like cheap disposable cups.

Fun Activity with Your Children

It was a really fun activity for the children and I to do together. We enjoyed spending quality time together and creating something really cool. I had the hardest time getting the degrees to a particular temperature that was stated on the instructions and when I was using a thermometer, I kept dropping temperature every time I would open the microwave door so I eventually gave up on trying to perfect the temperature and just went with it since the water was boiling anyway. Overall they turned out pretty good - the larger ones fell apart, but they are really awesome and it’s neat to watch them grow and change by the day. I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone and I would purchase this again in the future!

It takes time...

This is not an instant crystal growing experimental kit. Takes a few days. My teen daughter started stem class in school and is in all honors classes. She took one look and couldn't wait to crack open the box. Comes with everything you need but water. Measure the chemicals and put it in the right temperature water then set it aside for a few days. Not near the sink, you don't want to accidentally dump it out. And if you have animals, which we have three, he careful it is not in a spot they can get to. We put ours in a cabinet. Cool kit. The only down side is it is not instant, takes a while, so you have to have plenty of patience.

Nerve wracking but cool

So this was slightly nerve wracking to watch my husband and son do. The directions clearly state not to get it on yourself or on any surface where you eat as the chemicals in this set are not good for you. I was paranoid the whole time and didn’t know if I really wanted them to do it after reading it. Well you know boys. They did it. All is fine. No one got hurt. We just did one to start. There are several steps you have to follow to a T. This does work though. Within a day there was a crystal growing. It gets bigger each day. You have to set it where it doesn’t shake or get disturbed. This teaches you patience and how to be careful. Make sure you do it with your child and not have them do it on their own.

So fun!

I was skeptical if it was going to work, but it turned out fantastically. I forgot to take pictures after the last step of cleaning the excess growth and displaying in the clear container, but the crystals were beautiful and larger than expected. Highly satisfied with the purchase.

Works well

Daughter very happy. Had a few different crystal kits but these seem to be the best. Crystals grow as shown on pictures on the box. Takes a week so you have to be patient but you will see them start to grow in the first few hours. We have one more day until we poor the solution away but I think they may actually be coloured too not just a stain at the bottom of a salty mound as we have had before. Well worth the price.

You must have a warm spot for this to work!

We have had these crystals "growing" over 4 weeks now, and they still haven't grown well at all. However, I am not sure if this is because the product is not good, or because my house never gets above 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. When I selected this product as a Spark Review item, I thought it would be a fun project to do with my eleven year old over winter break. Unfortunately, I did not know it requires a room temperature above 77*. Because our heater does not work well to heat the house, we have had a failure on the project. They are similar in consistency to the frost crystals that form on the car in cold weather. Not something kiddo could let dry and display in the cases.The cups/cases are fairly decent for the price point of the product. It comes with two packs of the white substance needed to build the crystals and three packs of starter in various colors. We tried white and purple. I can't tell if any growth has occurred in the purple, as it is too dark. We did get thin, brittle growth in the white, though. You can sort of see this in the pictures I have attached to this review.I like that this kit includes everything you need, including cups to grow the crystals in. many do not. You will need a pot to boil water in, but that is not a problem since you only have to boil water in it, not use any household products with the chemicals.It was fun to try, but I do wish it could be done with various temperatures. We will retry this summer, when the house will be warmer to see if it works better. If I remember, I will give an update to this review then.
