As a hobby We mineral prospect in rugged terrain and hike often and far with heavy packs carrying hammers, chisels and minerals. Needless to say a comfortable Boot that grips and is capable of handling the weight is necessary. This Boot was it. It handles the weight stress well and grips the ground in confidence. It was definitely designed for movement , secure footing and carrying weight comfortably. This it all does with a five star rating. It is even comfortable as a everyday warehouse runner. With that said this Boot gets 3 stars due to it's durability. Maybe I'm old, but I am not ready to pay 150 dollars on a boot that only lasts 6 months. I guess that's the new normal. The rubber caps on toes started to separate within three months. The meshing started tearing at the five month period. I am not amused at the life span of this Boot considering all it's pluses in the field. I have 5.11 pants that are still bushwacking and terrorizing the forces of nature for two years plus . I want a boot that lasts at least a year for 150 dollars. This Boot stands behind all of it's boasts , except for durability.

Maybe my search was unique, but I wanted a mid boot that I could use for hiking, yard/farm work, and game scouting...but looked good enough to pair with some pants on a muddy day without looking like I walked out of military base or a farm yard. I wanted breathable shoes that had a sturdy toe cap for tough work (without the weight of steel toes). I searched literally every brand on earth and finally settled on these. These boots are light, supportive, tough, and breathable. Waiting for these to go on sale (because I'm cheap) to buy a 2nd pair to put on a shelf until my current ones eventually quit on me.

Comfortable every day and dog walking shoes
3 January 2023

During this wet winter, I used tennis shoes (which get wet) and winter boots (which are not made for walking long distances) to walk dogs. I have been searching for a comfortable shoe that protects my feet and will allow me to comfortably walk on grass, rock/blacktop roads, walking trails, and cement floors. After my husband bought a pair of these and kept saying how comfortable they were, I decided to buy myself a pair. These have been the best shoes I have found so far that I can wear all day and my feet and back are not killing me from standing/walking on hard surfaces. I love the traction on the bottom, so I don't fear slipping as much (unless it's ice). I have not tried stepping in puddles with them, but they keep my feet dry and warm after walking across wet ... MoreDuring this wet winter, I used tennis shoes (which get wet) and winter boots (which are not made for walking long distances) to walk dogs. Comfortable, but not durable.
9 November 2023

I purchased these boots in April of 2023, and by August the exterior material was already worn thin and holes formed near my little toes on each boot. I don't wear these daily, nor am I putting them under extreme duress. In fact, I barely leave the house in them, and only use them for light outdoor activities or work around the house, as I thought they'd be stronger and more durable than your typical tennis shoes.Like I said, very comfortable boot that I want to love and recommend, but the durability is worse than a cheap $10 pair of Chinese Wal-Mart knock-offs. Definitely not worth the $75 I paid--on sale at that!

Disappointed 😔
15 October 2023

I got this A/T Mid October 2020 but I can't use it because of pandemic. We are forced to use other boot instead (working in EMS). 2021 when I finally able to use it. The comfort was really good, it was like a running shoe and the grip on wet/ slippery surfaces was good. Not until after a year. The hook for shoe lace was broken. The rubber strips on the mesh part is falling apart. But the worst is the sole. It is separating from the shoe and have cracks. I tried to bring it on the local store but they are telling me that it's out of warranty instead bring it to the shoe repair shop. Shoe repair shop won't accept it also because the told me that the rubber/sole is already EXPIRED. I'm very disappointed, I thought 5.11 brand has a good quality.

I work on a country club in golf maintenance and I’m always looking for a shoe/boot I can stand on for 14hrs a day and walk 10+ miles a day in hot/cold/dry/wet conditions. The insole of these shoes are unmatched. Very light and very comfortable on the footbed. I have both the mesh version and waterproof version of this boot and after about 60days I got a tear on a seam in the toe box area. They are due for a new treatment of the exterior water repellent. The treat holds up extremely well. And something that was more worthy is the seam of the middle of the waterproof barrier dug into my heal really bad but even with that I’ve never had a more comfortable boot. I’d buy them again or if 5.11 wanted me to try these again and see if I can get more life that’d be cool. The fit is also different between WP and non WP models if this boot.

Only 30 days used and starting to see problems. DAMAGES, FALLING APART.Comfortable, different feeling from other 511 boots because of insert.- Lacing system could be better. (I prefer full length punched and/or grommet) Hate webbed lacing but found a way to lock ankles in place.- Insoles slip on insert, slightly annoying.- Mesh is falling apart at the seams. Fraying. (casual daily use, just walking. NO FRICTION...) SEE PICTURES.- laminate isn't peeling yet but edges have UV-damage where overlapping holes within mesh (I give it 90 days)- soles are great once broken in. NONE SLIP. 6 month review: Break-in was quick. Very comfortable. Tread is also nice. The heat shield feature was actually great on the hot pavement during an extremely hot Alabama summer. Waterproof feature was great until they began leaking due to fabric being weak on the lateral toe area. Both boots developed holes within the first month. Only reason I’ve rated so low is durability. I’m sure 5.11 will improve the model but these will not hold up to moderate and heavy outdoor use. They’re so comfortable I hate to throw them out but they’re too far gone to keep wearing. I used them for part-time lawn care. I normally average 2 years out of my 5.11 boots and they’re still in good shape when they go into reserve service. These are quite possibly the most comfortable mid boot I've worn with amazing traction even on wet surfaces. Great little thing is after coming in from wet surfaces, the grip on smooth, dry floors is superb and there is zero squeaking on any surface. The material of the soles absorbs impacts like a champ; jumping down from heights of 4+' are softer. I work in a high-stress environment with about 10-15 miles walked per week and heat up to 106; these breathe well and don't smell despite all of the sweating and work. All-around great boot. Now for the con: durability. I have run these boots for about 5 months at this point. For this price I'd expect them to last at least a year. There is significant break-down of the backing inside of the right boot. The lugs are relatively deep, but there is significant wear of the outer portion of each heel. At this rate, these boots will have a lifespan of 6-7 months. I don't want to have to spend $300 on this boot per year so I'll likely end up moving on one this pair dies.
