7artisans 35mm f/0.95 to f/16 Lens For Fujifilm (X Mount)
Sleek and super bright, the FUJIFILM X-mount 7artisans 35mm f/0.95 is a versatile prime characterized by its f/0.95 maximum aperture and all-manual design. The speed of the lens suits working in low-light conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field for isolating subject matter and using selective focus techniques. Complementing this is a pair of ultra-low dispersion elements, which control chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to produce high clarity and color accuracy. The manual focus design of the lens permits working with subjects as close as 1.2' away and the manual aperture ring has also been de-clicked for silent adjustments that suit video applications. Also, this lens sports a 12-blade diaphragm that contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. Normal-length prime is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-M-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 56mm equivalent focal length. Immensely fast f/0.95 maximum aperture benefits working with shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques, and also suits photographing in low-light conditions. Two ultra-low dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve high clarity and accurate color rendering. Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.2'. Depth of field and distance scales aid pre-focusing and zone focusing techniques. De-clicked aperture ring promotes smooth and silent aperture switching to benefit video applications. 12-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

I am equipped with Canon and very happy with all the (heavy) gear I have. However in some places such BIG cameras are not welcome, or you just do not want to carry them (party, dinner, any formal event where you are supposed to be a guest, not the photographer). For this reason I purchased many years ago a SONY Alpha-6000 (mirrorless of course, E-mount). It helped a bit but not so much as I used it with my CANON L lenses and the Sigma adapter. Then I recently saw this 7artisans lens in B&H DealZone, and although there was only one review available, I read it, with others for different models (same brand of course). Then bought it, very much attracted by the perspective of having a lot of fun with a f/0.95 prime lens while reaching my goal of a compact camera for specific purposes. It was delivered here in Qatar for a reasonable shipment price and in perfect shape (thank you DHL Express). The packaging already is the first good impression you like to receive when welcoming such high-end equipment. Every single detail is taken care of. The lens itself is surprisingly heavy for the (very compact) size, full metal and solid construction, with a perfect aesthetics. Of course it perfectly fits the Sony E-mount (camera does not recognize it obviously but you set everything in manual and select the ability to shoot without lens in the straightforward menu).Practically speaking, I made only on few shots, still need to practice although I love shooting full manual and with fixed focal lenses. It is clearly a light sink at f/0.95 wide aperture. Optics looks razor-sharp and the electronic viewfinder helps a lot for manual focus. Zooming on the photo clearly highlights the challenge of accurate focus at such wide aperture but this is no surprise. As stated for several similar large-aperture models, it will certainly be a lot of fun but also a lot of files straight in the trash because of the focus challenge. The amazing side of it, is that all of this is stated for a high-end product - which this lens certainly appears to be. Looking at the price (250 bucks) this is the best deal ever in my long career of passionated amateur photographer! The camera with this lens perfectly fits the purpose, the fun is (high) added value.Just one thing that could be improved: the lens cap. It is metallic, perfectly fits the lens but there is no locking system (such as the ones with CANON lenses). Once the mandatory protective UV filter is put on the lens, there is a very slight outer diameter difference that makes the cap a bit loose (the cap does not enter that deep on the outer part of the lens); it may easily move, be dropped in the bag or just with handling. It could be improved (magnets?), especially as I suspect the old-fashioned metallic cap itself is supposed to be the same high-end, nice full-metal quality.I very warmly recommend this lens - and most probably this brand; for its quality, the care that has been brought at its manufacturing and quality control, and of course unbeatable quality/price ratio. And of course the last word to B&H for their professional services and the quality of their support.Attached photos (lens removed from its plastic bag, and out of the box and its protective foam).

Love this lens, was exactly what I was hoping for. Super well built, all metal, VERY heavy for its size. Honestly only complaint is that its a little too heavy on my xe4. Lens is fully manual, focus and aperture, and does not add lens information (including aperture) to meta date. Lens is soft wide open but stopped down a bit gets sharper than I had expected. They need to make a wide angle lens next, would buy it right away.

I'd seen this lens compared online to the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95, and some assertions that they were really the same lens in a different exterior with a different diaphragm. I can say that, in the samples I got at least, it's not true. The coatings are visibly different, and I'm not an expert on the optical formulas, but this lens has superior field flatness, a lot less distortion, and less vignetting. It also has a noticeably narrower field of view and appears to be slightly dimmer, maybe a quarter stop, and it's a bit lighter and smaller. It's possible that the lens has the same optical formula but the speed booster focal reducer at the back is the difference. Importantly, I think the price is more reasonable for what it is. I'd label it a novelty lens, ... I'm attaching a tripod-mounted shot of a checkboarded tablecloth on a flat floor for your pixel peeping enjoyment (it's downsized, sorry). Note the purple/green fringing, vignetting, field curvature, etc. (Read Roger Cicalis's articles on Digital Photography Review for more on that.)

I'm using this on my Z7 in crop mode. I also use it in full frame mode too if I want some artsy vignette or even more shallow depth of field by walking closer to the subject than in DX mode. You could also probably get a decent 1:1 crop in FX mode to lose some of the vignette.I gotta say I'm loving the image and build quality in this lens. It's not some cheap plastic lens, it's a heavy chunk but also small and portable. If you're not well practiced in manual focus lenses especially wide open then you'll struggle with this one.Luckily my Z7 has such a nice evf that focusing is easy, especially if you set up a custom mode and remap the back button focus to do punch in zoom.My one complaint is the de-clicked aperture ring...Overall I couldn't be happier with ... I spontaneously posted a first review on the day I received and tried this surprisingly (for the price) good lens. Here is the review automatically triggered by B&H after purchase.I have seen a few less enthusiastic reviews, but I will definitely stick to my original comment. I love this compact, 100% metallic and solid lens. Of course not perfect and probably not as sharp as the L Canon lenses, this optics remains a light sink for low light conditions. Manual focus... Who cares? With practice you can scan the focus setting with a series of shots and slightly turning the focus ring. On the SONY Alpha 6000, the manual focus assistance does not work with this lens and the camera superbly ignores this lens...I do not regret my purchase - and even ordered (and just ... While being of the same quality, this metallic cap does not remain on the lens if you add a protective filter (and even without the protective filter, it is not reliably sticking to protect the lens). I then purchased a Sensei clip-on cap for a few bucks.I do not abandon my Canon pro gear, but love carrying my compact Sony Alpha-6000 with this great jewel.
I'm using the E-mount version on a Sony A6000. I was interested in the manual aspects of this lens. It's fun because it forces you to think about your focus and depth of field. It is surprisingly well-made for the money and feels solid. I recommend getting a snap-in lens cap - the provided one is nice but won't stay on once you add a filter.I looked at some reviews of more expensive options in the f0.95 category, but their quality seems quite comparable to this bargain. There is a bit of fringing, especially compared to a higher-end lens like the Sony/Zeiss 24mm f1.8, but I think this lens is a great value and useful for various creative shots.
If you read more detailed reviews on blogs it will mention the propensity of this lens to flare when pointed at a light source. This is true, but I was easily able to control flare with a good polarizer. At times it is fun to allow the flare to add to the composition of the shot. The lens takes great shots in low light; making my MFT seem like a much bigger sensor. My two complaints are that the lens cap slides over the end of the lens and while it is a heavy metal cap is useless with a lens hood. The second is a usability peeve. The hard stop of the focus ring doesn't focus at infinity. It would be nicer if I could rotate to the bump stop and before pulling the camera up to my face to compose a more distant shot.
I almost went a different route because of the mixed reviews - but I'm glad I didn't. The common thread for poor reviews seems to be focus. That isn't a problem on the Sony a6300, which has focus-peaking. This is a manual-focus lens that will require learning some technique if you didn't grow up in the days of film. Some may not understand that this is an f-0.95 aperture that has a paper-thin depth of field. You buy a lens like this for low-light or creative control. The clickless aperture ring is a nuisance for some, but I have figured out how to use it seamlessly with my work. Start at f-0.95, manually-focus on your subject, then adjust aperture to get desired depth of focus. Image quality is surprisingly good - especially for an ultra-fast lens.
I used the lens for a bout a week, and I had enough of it.There three biggest issues are:(1) lens feels super tight to put on the camera I'm afraid it will make the camera mount loose for other lenses or will break the camera mount.(2) there is almost a fuzzy band out of focus in the picture. I have comparison pictures between this lens (50mm) and the super cheap 35mm f1.2 first version. The 35mm does not have the out-of-focus at the same stop, f1.4 and f2. (3) The last issue is that when adding a UV/haze filter as lens protection, the lens cap will not stay. Given the size of the glass, it is a matter of time before I get it scratched without a filter.
Build quality appears top notch. As many others have said I wish the aperture ring was clicked but that's not too big of a deal. What most impresses me about this lens is that the center of the frame is quite sharp wide open. Some reviews have complained that it's not sharp across the frame wide open but not only is this common even among lenses costing many time the price but more often than not I don't want the edges to be sharp when shooting wide open. Bokeh is the goal here. Overall quite happy with this lens. shooting it on a Nikon Z fc. EXIF data would be nice if it had electrical contacts. Maybe at some point 7Artisan will offer that feature. This lens is way better than some of the earlier Leica mount 7Artisans lenses I tried a few years ago.
