It's an excellent idea. As far as I can tell, it works with only 1 controller per system. I tried to connect a Nintendo Switch controller using this adapter, while connecting an Xbox to its receiver to play Human Fall Flat, and it never completely worked. Both controllers were connected, and the sticks worked, but the rest of the triggers and buttons in one of the controllers were randomly disabled for some reason. Sometimes it was the Xbox one, sometimes the Switch. Other than that, for a single player who wants to use a very specific gaming device, it's fantastic!

I thought getting this would mean I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of launching every game through steam but that was unfortunately very misguided. It requires quite a bit of setup and firmware updates as others have mentioned, but their website is absolutely terrible and it comes with the least amount of information in the packaging I have ever seen. I bought it so I could play games on epic or xbox pc with my switch pro controller without having to get an xbox controller. So far I've gotten it to half work on one game-but half working might as well be nothing lol. I've ended up just starting games with steam-which is sadly not foolproof either. At least their service is free and is doing its best, which is far more than I can say for this item. Maybe it works okay getting other controllers onto the switch but I definitely would not recommend it for PC. Sadly I think it's too late for me to return it. I would try using steam first or perhaps some of the free software available which may take a bit more work but will save you $20 and at least then you'll know what's going wrong.

This requires mapping the buttons within the game itself. The Dinput mode is superior when it comes to games with complex controls such as flight simulators. Some flight simulator hardware setups are quite elaborate with yaw pedals, toggle switches, engine power control levers, and too many individual inputs to be supported by Xinput.

Allows you to use your favorite controller with nearly any system.

This device works with more hardware than advertised. It somehow knows what system you have connected it to, and shows up as the most appropriate controller for that system. When connected to a pc, it shows up as a xbox-360 controller. When connected to a Switch, it shows up to the Switch as a Nintendo Pro controller. When connected to my PS2, it shows up as a PS2 DualShock. It shows up to my Fire TV as an Xbox 360 controller. I have tested it with all of these devices with either a Switch controller, Wii-U Pro Controller, or a Wii controller with Classic or Wii Controller with Nunchuck paired to it. Note that it doesn't support pairing JUST the Wii controller with no accessory. The pairing is painless and fast, and i couldn't detect any latency even when playing fast-twitch games.

Does the job as described!!

I was going to buy a Nintendo switch pro controller for when I'm gaming on my TV. The pro controllers are quite expensive at $70. I already have four Dual Shock 4 controllers. With this device it is as simple as plugging the adapter into the switch dock. After plugging into the switch dock put the dual shock into pairing mode by holding down the PS home button and share button and once the controller starts flashing white hit the small button on the side of the adapter. On the switch it will pop right up as a pro controller, select it there under controller settings and you are good to go. The dual shock works perfect and even the vibration works. The only con I can think of is that you have to get used to the fact that the buttons are in a different order instead ... MoreI was going to buy a Nintendo switch pro controller for when I'm gaming on my TV. Once you get used to this controller mapping it works flawlessly and you'll have an extra $50 in your pocket for another game!! I also forgot to mention you can use this to pair controllers with laptops and many other devices. Great job guys awesome product!!

Exactly what I needed, works great, and affordable

The 8bitdo adapter is the most affordable answer to my problem. I've been wanting a Pro Controller for my Switch since I first got it but it's just way too expensive. I have a perfectly good 2nd PS4 controller just sitting inactive in my drawer. This little adapter has given my PS4 controller new purpose.I had to do some research to figure out how to update the firmware and set it up. I couldn't get it to connect with my controller, at first, but I had realized that I was not holding down the buttons on the PS4 controller long enough. And once I realized that, I was able to easily make a connection. The rumble works and I remapped the buttons to be like an Xbox controller so I wouldn't be confused using the PS4 controller. It works like a dream and I don't have to ... MoreThe 8bitdo adapter is the most affordable answer to my problem. Fantastic, many, many uses
8 June 2020

One unexpected use, my SAMSUNG SMARTTV that accepts a USB 360 controller (and does not have bluetooth) works with this adapter. This effectively allows wireless controllers for apps like steam-link.If your primary usage of this adapter is for NES/SNES classic controllers, you can use them with a wiimote, but consider the 8BitDo gbros adapter so you don't require a wiimote and has an added gamecube adapter. Both options are great. All controllers work perfectly well. Xbox-One and PS4 dualshock on switch. 8BitDo controllers (tested SN30PRO and M30). Switch Pro easily working on windows without fiddling with driver software. This is even an easier way to get these controllers synced and working in linux (tested with debian elementaryOS manjaro)

For PC, DO NOT get this for JoyCon use.

You not only can have but **one** controller synced to it at a time, no more than that without unsynchronizing the other, it also doesn't actually show up as the contoller in question in Windows. The entire point of a Bluetooth adapter is to sync more than one thing at a time. Especially things like controllers, so that's a letdown for sure. It's also a letdown that in any program that requires Xinput, it will work except with like a year of input lag.The initial reason I bought this was of course to use my JoyCons, and Switch Pro Controller on CEMU (a Wii U emulator) to play Breath of the Wild with gyro controls, among other things. Currently I'm in a situation where not only does it NOT pass through gyro, it doesn't even show up properly so I can't even use them ... MoreYou not only can have but **one** controller synced to it at a time, no more than that without unsynchronizing the other, it also doesn't actually show up as the contoller in question in Windows. The entire point of a Bluetooth adapter is to sync more than one thing at a time. But, to be honest, go with a real Bluetooth adapter instead. Then your device will actually register as its self and not whatever this dongle tells it to be.

Make sure when you are updating the firmware that you press the button at the same time you insert into the usb slot. If the firmware from 8bitdo is open, it will automatically recognize the stick. If you do not press the button while inserting the usb stick, the frimware update program will not respond in any way. Also, make sure your xbox 1 controller is up to date through a wired connection with the new xbox accessories app. I was able to use this usb adaptor and an xbox1 controller to play games on steam on my pc.Occasionally I will have to remove the usb stick and replug it if the controller buzzes in and out of connection, but that only happens if I restart the computer. As a side note, the easiest way for me to make sure the controller was recognized in ... MoreMake sure when you are updating the firmware that you press the button at the same time you insert into the usb slot. Tough choice
14 September 2021

It's pretty awesome. In addition to the 8bitdo dongle, I also have two Xbox wireless adapters. Both have pros and cons. The Xbox connector is far more seamless if all you use is Xbox controllers. It also lets you connect *multiple* controllers with one dongle. In addition, you can use voice chat. The 8bitdo dongle can connect to pretty much any bluetooth controller, like Wii, Wii U, Xbox, PS, etc. And I can use the 8bitdo with my Switch, PC, or other non Xbox device and use whatever combination controller with whichever console. The biggest drawback is that 1 dongle = 1 controller. If you want two players, you will need two dongles. But, you can use whatever controllers you want (pretty much).
