It's still an ssd so it will smash any hard drive when it comes to the performance even when almost full.

Bad product. Sit on it, and it will break. Made of cheap 99cents plastic. Inputs can snap off with light pressure, or inside your laptop.

This product is badly made. It's all plastic, and with enough pressure, you can split it in half. I didn't even know bad quality SSD's existed. It feels like a product you would buy for $5 and hope that it doesn't die on you at the wrong time. The input section is what is most concerning. If you can put even light pressure on the input, it will break off. Be careful when inserting it in your laptop. Because if it breaks off inside your laptop, you may as well set apart a day for repairing. Or you can pay someone to fix. Or you can just throw your laptop away. I bought it to install Windows 10 on it. I put it in my laptop, but I am concern if this will even last as a hard drive, and if my data will eventually vanish. It also was not just plug and play. Apparently Windows 10 installer doesn't know how to create a partition to install Windows on it. I had to research on the internet how to get this to work. It is not beginner friendly. If you don't know how to google for solutions correctly, you may find yourself taking all day just to install it. I install operating systems to laptops all the time. The solution requires you to go into the windows command prompt. If you are not comfortable with that, you may regret your purchase. My recommendation is do not buy it. I've seen some SanDisk for the same price. Or just pay a little more and buy a product what won't break on your just for looking at it wrong. I am regretting buying this. And may just throw it in the trash and buy myself a real SSD drive.

I got the SU650 120GB on sale for $20. Comes in a cheap light plastic enclosure lol. Might cause problems in hot environments or if its not properly ventilated. Speeds arent mind blowing unless you never had an ssd before lol. The only issue so far is the temperature reading. It kept reporting 60c so I removed it from its enclosure and placed it in front of a cooling fan and it STILL reported rising temps. I manually tested the ssd temp and it said 33c! Something glitchy there. So dont be alarmed if youre cooling it properly. Besides that it works fine, Id say it is not bad, just not great. So I guess its grad? Haha

Great if you need a cheap SSD, but long-term quality is unknown
23 June 2020

Got it on sale for 20 bucks, and with eBay coupon a $50 SSD became $13. Used it to swap an old 52k RPM WD Blue in a laptop, and after a drive copy, seems to be working just fine. Apps are loading faster, system seems more responsive, typical SSD I/O-OP goodness. Only question is what form of NAND Flash it uses. It advertises 3D NAND, but that doesn't really say much about quality. My guess (based on a few google searches) is it's probably TLC, which is notably less reliable than SLC or MLC. Granted, it's not going to be used in any form of data-center infrastructure or something. The most daily use I'll get out of it is opening google chrome or zoom for work for a few hours, then back in the bag it goes.

Herve's review of Adata Ultimate SU650 120GB 2.5 SATA SSD
22 July 2022

Pros: Was super easy to set up as a replacement for a laptop 2.5" HDD. Massive performance improvement over a regular HDD. Great value.Cons: Probably not the fastest, but more than fast enough for an old laptop. Made in PRC, not Taiwan, unlike I believe the more upmarket Adata products (their USB sticks and microSD cards at least).

I removed the SU650 as the boot drive, installed a spare and started testing. the SSD. Cables and power are fine and the test results show no errors and 100% health, but as soon as multiple or large files are read to or copied from the drive it will disconnect and stay that way until the computer is restarted.. Multiple tests produced the same result. My spare is a 9 year old WD Black that I've used in my last 4 builds and is working perfectly, but my almost new SSD is essentially useless. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Any drive can fail but it has been my experience that the risk is greater with inexpensive drives. I gambled and lost. Not a huge deal overall, just an inconvenience. I can of course get an RMA but probably won't. However, when one manufacture has a product that takes a predictable dive after 3-4 months, as seen in these reviews, a pattern emerges that I want no part of. Instead of getting a replacement I'll likely toss it and scratch ADATA from my list. There are many other manufactures to pick from.

The snappy SSD user experience for a nice price!
3 March 2020

Looks like a sata SSD. Feels like a sata SSD. Performs like a sata SSD. It must be a sata SSD! The SLC buffer cache seems sufficient for a 120GB unit. And I think the user experience for most people would be indistinguishable from any other modern solid state system drive. And the price! About 1/5 what I paid back in 2013 for 120GB SSD with mediocre(150MB/Sec) write speeds. Runs a bit warm though. Nothing too alarming in my desktop HTPC. But be mindful of proper ventilation. Especially in laptop installations.

this worked, it partitioned and formatted with windows 7 in a ibm machine but the intended use was in a dell running win 10. even thought the drive did post in the bios on the dell, win 10 would not recognize the drive. after downloading and arduously registering to use the disk copy program it only worked while running my original drive and designated it drive x which let me access the drive but would not boot from it when i set it as the primary drive. i spent 4 hours with this drive which never worked for its intended purpose. by contrast i bought another brand name and did a clean install in under 30 minutes

This is my first jump into using an SSD so I'm gonna gush a little bit but it's night and day compared to a traditional hard drive. From 0-fully booted with startup items it's substantially faster than my old drive, so much so it's done that in the time the old one is still loading to the login screen. If you need a fairly cheap SSD for your OS this would be a great potential fit for you (If you can get over the ugly, green, shiny sticker on it) Using the included Acronis offer, cloning my old drive was easy and straightforward. I did have an issue with my system forgetting it had my storage drive and it lost the drive letter and ramped up usage to 100% on that drive so loading was hampered a little, after running chkdsk /f it fixed the assignments and everything is ... MoreThis is my first jump into using an SSD so I'm gonna gush a little bit but it's night and day compared to a traditional hard drive. I did have an issue with my system forgetting it had my storage drive and it lost the drive letter and ramped up usage to 100% on that drive so loading was hampered a little, after running chkdsk /f it fixed the assignments and everything is running buttery smooth. Transfered over Fallout 4 to the SSD to get a good idea of load times and it's roughly 20-30 seconds faster, with less stuttering. I am thoroughly impressed with this drive and it didn't break the bank which was a bonus. The SSD also supports trim which from what I've been reading is a good thing as not all of them do. The only major issue I have is it feels cheap, like really cheap. When I first pulled it out of its box I thought I would break it just trying to mount it in the case. If you must hide that unsightly sticker on the front there is an included bracket with strips on it to stick it to the backside of your Mobo tray if you don't want to peel the sticker off.

The SSD offers read/write speeds of up to 520/450 MB/s and greater reliability than 2D NAND SSDs. The SU650 also features SLC caching and advanced error correction technologies to ensure optimal data performance and integrity. For those looking to experience a clear PC upgrade, the SU650 is an excellent choice. With 3D NAND (also known as V-NAND or 3D V-NAND), the transistors are oriented vertically to the chip surface, and the flash memory lines are stacked in layers. This achieves a higher storage density while simultaneously reducing the risk of interference between cells. Thanks to the shortened connections between cells, electrical performance increases, and as a result, power consumption decreases. The advantages of an SSD over a traditional hard drive include significantly shorter access times, lower energy consumption, and greatly increased shock resistance. This means your operating system boots faster, generates less heat, and your data remains intact even during greater shocks. Another advantage is the very high lifespan, which helps keep your data preserved for a long time.
