I have really mixed feelings about these shoes. They are great in most ways, but have a couple of flaws that nearly lead me to return them.First is a minor flaw that actually can be problematic for certain situations: The black-colored shoes show dirt like nobody’s business. If you wear these anywhere other than on pavement, they make you look like you just stepped out of the fields. It is bad enough that I feel self-conscious going into restaurants after going on a hike. Duh, that is exactly when I am feeling ready for some nourishment. The other combination problem is a near fatal flaw for me: The shoe laces are the worst I have ever had. They will not stay tied, even when I double-knot them! This is coupled with a bizarre top pair of too-small eyelets that set ... MoreI have really mixed feelings about these shoes. They will not stay tied, even when I double-knot them! This is coupled with a bizarre top pair of too-small eyelets that set up a lace pattern that is quite difficult to get properly tensioned. Plus, the infernal slippery laces are too long, so if I only use one pair of the eyelets, then the laces drag on the ground. If I use both sets of eyelets, then the lacing and tensioning is a pain.Getting and keeping these properly tied is such a chore that I bought new laces off Amazon as a last ditch effort before returning them to REI. Thankfully that seems to have worked, but it seems Adidas botched this very fundamental part of the design.

I've had really good experiences with Adidas trail running shoes in the past, and I'm sad that this shoe is so incredibly uncomfortable. I've given them quite a bit of time to break in, but I think it's just a poor design. A few things stick out:- The fabric and material on the back that lies against your achilles tendon is rough and stiff. If you wear very low cut socks like me, the rough material will rub your skin raw. I've resorted to taping this part of my ankle to avoid the skin irritation. The stiffness of the material also digs into this area of your ankle.- The laces are slick and thin. After about 30 minutes of walking, the laces end up cinching the base of your ankle quite tight, which is very uncomfortable. I will try different laces, but I shouldn't ... MoreI've had really good experiences with Adidas trail running shoes in the past, and I'm sad that this shoe is so incredibly uncomfortable. When the laces cinch like this, my toes start to go numb and my feet start to get quite warm.- Breathability is questionable.I purchased these online, though I don't think I would have caught these issues trying them on in a store. I would not recommend this shoe at all.

This footwear did not last through six months period. The order was placed on 9/10/2023 and I received my order on 9/14/2023. I have been wearing TERREX AX4 Hiking Shoes on one mile walks with my dog daily on flat terrain, no hiking of any kind. The fabric inside of shoes has ripped and the soles of both shoes are completely worn off. The inside fabric started ripping after a couple of months of wear. The sole has scuffed slowly over a period of 6 months. I am really disappointed that the lifespan of these shoes is no longer than 6 months with no strenuous hiking. I asked Adidas for a replacement of these shoes since they are still available online. Adidas replied that the approved warranty will receive refunds in gift card only. They can’t send me a replacement. ... MoreThis footwear did not last through six months period. The order was placed on 9/10/2023 and I received my order on 9/14/2023. What a joke! I am a fan of Adidas footwear, because they are wider. But I am completely disappointed about their approach to valued customers. This manufacturing damage to the material did not happen overnight. The footwear slowly became more and more damaged over the period of six months. The shoes were delivered on 9/14/2023. Adidas mentioned that I was 14 days over the six-month warranty period. This damage to defected material has not happened in 14 days after the warranty expired! The defective material has worn off slowly over the period of six months.

I bought the size that fits me with all brands I wear, Asolo, Merrell, Vasque, Garmont, and more. The Terrex are oddly shaped, unlike those brands. In my size the length seemed ok, but the shoes were exaggeratedly large and floated around my feet. Even with laces as tight as possible, I could not get them snug, tight lacing would only result in weird uneven pressure points. My feet would hurt from all the movement around my feet and I could not wear them.
Great soles, sticky and reasonably durable. But the cushioning gave up way too fast. After maybe 150 miles, I'm basically just walking on the soles, which aren't that thick. I just got home from a trip and the ball of my foot feels bruised from walking in these. What I really want is the soles from these, grafted onto a pair of Oboz Sawtooth Lows.My usage was some casual hikes, some backpacking with 25-40# packs. I weigh about 205# without gear. Total about 150 miles.
I read all the reviews I could find about these shoes, and thought the negatives were something I could live with. I liked the look of the grip, as my current shoes weren’t holding well on wet granite, which I encounter a lot in the rainy season. I ordered a size up , to compensate for the small- sizing most negative reviews were focused on.They seemed great, until I came to the descent on a granite outcrop, and my toes started really hurting. My feet weren’t really held in place well, and my toes were sliding into the front of the shoe. I tried to tie the laces tighter, but that didn’t help, and there isn’t that extra eye at the top to thread the laces through to hold the feet in place- I tried to use the last eye as that, but my feet still slid forwards.I ... MoreI read all the reviews I could find about these shoes, and thought the negatives were something I could live with. I will try the super feet blue inner soles, which are thinner, as a last resort, but I’m really not that keen to use these on a hike again, given the constant discomfort they caused in previous hikes.I’m really regretting my decision to but these, but I’m on another continent, so returning them isn’t an option.
I actually didn't get these for hiking. I play adult softball and cleats hurt my feet. I read where it was suggested to get hiking shoes. They provide great traction and are very comfortable. They're pretty much true to size, but slightly big. I have to wear thicker socks to make them fit better. Only took a couple of years to break them in and not run blisters on my ankles.
Handles most moderate hikes on easy terrain...but makes a lot of noise doing it. Right shoe broadcasts rhythmic squeaking noise with each step. Driving me nuts.Started several months in, but REI wouldn't accept an exchange or at least issue a credit. First time, I've been truly disappointed with REI.
I bought these for my wife and they fit true to size -- ordered a size 7 and she typically wears a size 7. She said that they're super comfortable straight out of the box and provide excellent, lightweight support for our daily dog walks on nearby trails as well as on longer hikes. The Continental rubber tread provides great grip and also holds up extremely well over time. I've had a pair of the men's AX4s for 3 years now that I wear daily for our 1-2 mile dog walks and they've still got plenty of life left -- no delaminating, unraveling, or holes in the uppers. Highly recommend for those who have wider feet too, although they're still comfortable and supportive for those who have narrower feet like my wife.
From first glance, this hiking shoe looks and feels very nice, durable, and rugged. The Army green and black mix makes for a fairly neutral men's hiking shoe where colors don't really pop for those who like a simple, clean look. The shoe itself fits okay. I got mine in 10.5 but would recommend getting a half size up, especially for when your feet begin to swell from blood flow due to prolonged activity. It is definitely breathable with the lightweight mesh upper. The most important thing about this shoe that I like the most is the traction. The traction is very aggressive and feels very durable. For those people who are taking the rougher path, hiking up rocky mountains, or muddy/slippery terrain, this shoe is perfect for that. You won't be second guessing if you ... MoreFrom first glance, this hiking shoe looks and feels very nice, durable, and rugged.
