I read a quite a few reviews before purchasing this sneaker for a trip to Wyoming. A lot of reviews stated that it was rub against your heals and give you blisters and some said it would be too tight, however, I firmly believe that these shoes are amazing. I did not break in the shoes prior to the hike, and I completed a 16 mile bike ride with a 6 mile inclined rocky wet hike in the grand Tetons and the shoes were perfect. I would say because of ankle swelling towards the end of the day, 1 foot felt a bit tight but honestly nothing that was unbearable. They're very stylish, and I ended up seeing another traveler with the same hiking shoes during another outdoor excursion as well. I would highly recommend to order your size. I am a 9 1/2 women's, but tend to fall true to a size 10 for sneakers and I bought size 10 in the shoes and they were perfect. Keep in mind it's like a sock shoe at the ankle but a bit more hard and that's for ankle stability which you NEED. Again, I did not have any sort of rubbing or blisters but again, remember, you also need to wear the right socks! For reference, I wore high socks from a brand called APL and again, they worked perfect.

I really wanted these to work! I usually wear 11 but the 11 fit tight, like a sock. Still thought would be ok after break in. Tried different insoles. First hike I injured Achilles & took weeks to heal. Switched insoles & began damaging toes on downhill. After two black toes, even padded with lambswool, decided to return. Should have got 11.5, but still not sure this style would work with my feet. A plus is they are good on rocks, negative is they wrecked my feet.

Loved my first terrex hikers and after testing these new ones out for first time today I’m pleased I bought them. I previously had a size 4 and after much investigation decided to go half size up rather than a full size as advertised on adidas’s website. I feel I have more than enough room for my feet to expand during hikes as my feet are on the wider side, I also use my own orthotic insoles for plantar fasciitis and they work well. The ankle support is good and the grip so far feels like itl be much better than the previous version. I hope they continue to live up to my expectations.
I do not know what it is with Adidas outdoor hiking shoes but the smell that takes over happens almost immediately. I thought there was mold under our house but it was THESE BOOTS in my closet after only a handful of uses. Seriously, the smell came within a month. I finally got around to trying to remedy the situation and discovered that it was not the insole that smelled but mildew grew underneath the insole and covered the bottom of the interior of the boot. I have never experienced this before with any shoe or boot, even ones that were thrown in my mom’s attic for years. These boots were stored in my closet with the door open then outside on the screened-in porch when the smell became horrendous. I have never experienced this before with any shoe or boot, even ones that were thrown in my mom’s attic for years. These boots were stored in my closet with the door open then outside on the screened-in porch when the smell became horrendous. Adidas really needs to address this issue because their shoes/boots are so dang comfortable! I love them but I cannot deal with the smell. This does not happen with my 5-10 mountain bike shoes or Adidas running shoes, only with their line of hiking footwear. I had a pair of low cut Terra X or something that had the same smell but I cut grass in those! These boots were for the occasions I took the dog out in the field before it got too hot and they instantly smelled bad. Has anyone else experienced this? I have never had such an issue with foot odor from a shoe or boot that could not be fixed like these, even after a 28 day Outward Bound adventure in 1996!
I really like these shoes. They're light and supportive. It probably took about 20 miles of walking for them to bed in, they are a little spongy at first, now they're perfect. I don't need to add insoles like I typically do. Aside from walking through a few puddles I haven't been able to test how waterproof they are. They're Gore-Tex so I expect them to be waterproof longer and more effectively that the other non-Gore-Tex membraned boots I've had.I walk a lot and am hard on shoes and boots. Time will tell how durable they are.
I bought my first pair last year and loved them so much I bought 4 more in different colors. I have to receive back injections and my job requires hours on the shop floor, so I require quality footwear. First pair I bought was in an REI store. They felt night and day more comfortable than everything else I tried on. I spend 12-18 hours a day wearing these and my feet and back feel great every night. Highly recommended!
I have a couple of pairs of the original Free Hikers, but this is my first pair of the Free Hiker 2. Overall, they fit a bit more snuggly and have more arch support. The bottom is rounded so that you roll from heel to toe, unlike the originals. I'm still getting used to that. Overall, they fit great and look fantastic. As always, when hiking in a shoe with mesh uppers, be careful on the downhills because there's not much support to prevent your foot from sliding forward and smashing your toes into the end of the shoe. But they're very grippy and great for uphills.
This is my third pair of these Free Hikers, it really feels like you’re walking in air, they’re so comfortable. They have a really solid construction, look great, & even after a full days walking in the rain, they feel as comfortable as when first put on, & being Gortex lined, my feet are bone dry. These are the MK2’s, a different design of lace ups, more like traditional boots rather than like pulling a sock on in the originals. I’m not sure which I prefer yet….
Before the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 GORE-TEX Hiking Shoes entered my life, my hiking experience was akin to a shirtless old man in cutoff blue khaki shorts yanking a lawnmower starter cord - frustrating and far from glamorous. But once I slipped my feet into these magical marvels, I knew I had found the purr-fect pair! The soft, supportive PRIMEKNIT uppers and gusseted tongues hugged my feet like a long-lost lover - or perhaps a cuddly kitten that just won't let go. The formfitting comfort was a game changer, making my hikes feel like a walk in the park (which, I suppose, they were). And speaking of parks, have you ever tried hiking during a sudden downpour? The formfitting comfort was a game changer, making my hikes feel like a walk in the park (which, I suppose, they were). And speaking of parks, have you ever tried hiking during a sudden downpour? I used to dread it, but now I welcome the challenge with open arms and dry feet, thanks to the GORE-TEX membranes. They seal out wet conditions like a superhero's cape, while still letting my feet breathe as they warm up - no more sweaty, soggy socks for this hiker! But these shoes are more than just pretty faces. They're also tough as nails, with abrasion-resistant weldings that add durability to rival the world's strongest shirtless old man yanking that lawnmower cord. And the Boost™ foam midsoles? They're like having a personal trampoline strapped to your feet, providing long-lasting cushioning, energy return, and adaptability on even the rockiest of surfaces.Don't get me started on the internal EVA frames, heel supports, and Continental™ rubber outsoles. They all work together to provide lateral stability, midfoot support, and confident traction, whether it's wet or dry. It's like having an army of shirtless old men in blue khaki shorts pulling you up the mountain - minus the weird stares from fellow hikers. And if you're a fan of Mother Earth (as we all should be), you'll be thrilled to know that the uppers contain a minimum of 50% recycled content. That's right, these shoes are not only stylish, comfortable, and durable, but they're also eco-friendly. It's like a quadruple whammy of awesomeness! In conclusion, the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 GORE-TEX Hiking Shoes have truly revolutionized my outdoor adventures. They're the cat's pajamas, the bee's knees, and the shirtless old man's lawnmower cord of hiking shoes - and I wouldn't trade them for the world.
