Almost perfect

The build quality for this expensive piece of equipment is borderline offensive. It’s the perfect mask aside from build quality. The mask clips on with a series of the most fragile plastic lips that also happen to be part of the frame so, once those pieces inevitably break off, the frame is no longer good and it’s about $70 to replace. Likewise within the mask; there are tiny fragile plastic lips that allow the frame to connect with the mask and once those break the mask is also up for replacement unless you want to go the e6000 route, In which case I’m here to tell you I’ve tried but the pieces are so small and delicate you end up just making a mess attempting to fix it so even trying to fix it is ineffectual. Time frame for me before those clips start falling off is about 3 weeks even as a back sleeper. The tension from the straps on the frame is what’s keeping the mask and frame clipped together so hence the source if the design flaw.Next item is the mask. Once exposed to heat and moisture it can warp fairly quickly and is prone to leaks. I find this most troublesome on the nostril area though to compensate I’ve purchased the mask a bit smaller and while at first can be annoying, over time it’s remedied the problem. The adhesive will wear thin if you clean with warm to hot water/sani steam. They’re $35 a pop to replace.Aside from those both necessary and unfortunate deductions in score the mask itself is almost perfect. Great airflow, great design, tube on top was genius placemebt, hybrid style face mask is a massive plus, the smaller profile improves the quality of sleep of those who toss and turn a lot or sleep on their sides. One of the worst things about using full sized masks are mask lines around the mouth. This mask keeps lines to a mínimum especially if she’s adjusted just right as opposed to snug (which by the way a snug/tight fit reduce the life span of the mask and I have more leak problems the tighter the mask is. If anything a little loose is the way to go.Given the catastrophic design flaws and poor build quality, I don’t think this mask is worth the asking price. There are other options that offer similar dynamics. I buy it simply because it has everything I’m looking for and I’m too lazy to research alternatives but take it from me, if there’s ever an upgrade I’m skipping over this one in a heartbeat.

However, the frame of this mask fell all over the place while I was sleeping, and after looking at the sizing picture, I realized I likely needed to size down to the small frame. When you view the "size guide" the guide shows you proper placement of the frame, however there is no way to know which size frame you should really be in until you have the physical mask in hand. Which at that point, I've already spent over $100, waited almost a week for it to ship. The mask is possible to size beforehand with the sizing guide, but this is not possible for the actual frame. It's quite frustrating. All in all, I like the mask. It is comfortable and does not slide off my head like my nasal pillow mask does. The silicone does still irritate my skin, however I just use a skin moisturizer before bed and that helps it pretty well. I believe once I have proper sizing that this mask will work as intended and help me get a better quality sleep, however it's really impossible to know.

Great Machine! I shouldn't have waited so long to upgrade
14 April 2024

I've had the same machine for over 12 years. My original machine was a champ and worked great the whole time. I didn't realize how much quieter the new machines are as compared to the older ones. The AirSense 11 is super user-friendly and I love checking my score every day on my phone! I purchased the heated hose and humidifier block off since I haven't used a humidifier in many years. When I first used it as a test I wasn't sure it was even on since the ramp up of the pressure was so light and I couldn't even hear the unit.My AHI is .67 on average from the first 9 nights. When I did my test 12+ years ago, my AHI was 77.

I have been using the P30i Nasal Pillows for the past five years and love them but I wanted to try a Face Mask that covers both my nose and mouth and that allows me to breath through my nose or mouth without have to buy mouth tape to 1. keep my mouth shut while sleeping. 2. Purchase a mask that saves me the expense of mouth tape. 3. Has a swivel on the top of the headgear as a move about a lot in my sleep. 4. Allows me to sleep face down without the hose coming out the front of the mask. I have had some learning to adjust the straps tension so it's not to tight on my face and not so loose that it creates air leaks. Last night my ResMed sleep score was 96 out of 100 with "good mask seal and .4 events/hr". ResMed AirFit F30i compared to Respironics DreamWear Full Face Fit Pack
16 April 2024

A little bit about myself for comparison. I am an active sleeper that sleeps on my stomach or side (holding a pillow) and I constantly switch between sides throughout the night so I needed something that had a hose that comes off the top of my head so I don't sleep on the hose or get wrapped up in it as I flop back and forth between sides. I also have a full beard and I am a mouth breather. I bought both the AirFit and DreamWear to compare which is best for me as they were both very similar in shape but there is a pretty big cost difference between them.TLDR: The AirFit is fantastic, fits perfectly, holds a great seal, and is very well made. The DreamWear is like the Chinese knock-off f the AirFit. It is close, but just not as good for several reasons:1) The DreamWear contact points for the head harness/straps are in a slightly different location than the AirFit and it is just not as comfortable for me.2) The AirFit seals MUCH better than the DreamWear. Even though the DreamWear comes with 4 different sizes of mask, none fit perfectly and any slight pressure on the mask causes it to leak a little to a lot.3) The silicone on the AirFit is much softer than the DreamWear, which fells nicer against my skin but also probably adds to the better seal.4) The hose attachment, while in the same location on both, is MUCH better on the AirFit. The AirFit has a quick-detach connection so you can detach it if you need to step away without removing the entire mask. That is something I sorely missed on the DreamWear. But also the swivel of the attachment is just better on the AirFit. I find the DreamWear sometimes takes some fenagling to swivel where the AirFit feels like it is on ball bearings and needs no effort to swivel. This is really nice as I switch back and forth between sides.5) The only downside is the cost. The DreamWear is significantly cheaper, especially when you factor in that it comes with 4 masks. I tried them all and they all technically "work", but don't feel quite as comfortable as the one that really "fits" my face. And replacement masks for the AirFit are about twice as much. But after using both, you get what you pay for and I would go with the AirFit every time.

ResMed F30i Full Face CPAP mask with headgear.....

This is a good option for people who move around a lot when in their bed. The frame features an "elbow connection" on top of the head that can also rotate, allowing the air tube to be connected in a manner that keeps it out of the way and also allows movement in any direction because of the swiveling interface. It also features an air cushion shape that allows it to contact the nose underneath the nasal bridge instead of above it, simply sitting and cradling the nostrils. Air flows into the nose via the two holes in the nasal cradling portion of the mask. Meanwhile, the bottom of the mask sits just above the chin, making a seal against the mouth and allowing air entry from the mouth if the mouth is open. This prevents leakage of the air pressure if a CPAP user accidentally opens his or her mouth during treatment. And of course this mask also works well for those who tend to occasionally breathe through their mouths intentionally. I have taken away one potential extra star and given four stars out of five. The reason for a single star deduction is the fact that even though an over-the-chin mask appears aesthetically better, the location of the bottom of this mask tends to push the jaw backwards when a CPAP user is asleep and relaxes the muscles. It becomes more of a problem if users are sleeping on their backs when this occurs. It requires higher positive pressures to overcome upper airway obstructive tendencies when the face mask is also pushing the jaw down into the neck. This can be overcome with various interventions like a rolled-up towel loosely placed in a location that gently holds the lower jaw up WITHOUT putting pressure on the soft tissues behind the jaw and into the neck. If pressure is exerted onto the soft tissues behind the jaw or on the neck, the airway obstruction will get more severe. But if the jaw is simply lifted away from being forced backwards into the neck, the airway is more open. So this mask might require a lot of fine tuning with various other items in order to find the best combination for those who sleep on their backs or for those who have higher CPAP pressures regardless of the sleeping position involved.I still gave four stars because for those who eventually figure out some combination of interventions that work well for themselves, this mask provides reassurance that air will not escape if the mouth opens. It also has a great range of movements that allows freedom to move in the bed. Overall, a tricky mask to adjust, but for many, it might be well worth the effort if one wants the freedom of movement without tangled CPAP tubes and if one likes sleeping in various side-sleeping positions. Still worth four stars.

ResMed is the Best

I swore by the Philips Respironics DreamStation 1 and 2 that I owned prior. They my told me it was time to upgrade my device so I requested another Philips. I had a ton of Philips supplies and the machines were always good. They instead sent a ResMed AirSense 11. I complained a bit before being told they no longer carried Philips machines. I grudgingly tried the AirSense 11 and immediately fell in love with it. It was much more quiet, much better for breathing with EPR, less leaks, more user control on the machine, better mobile app, and the ResMed mask selection was far superior. The only area that ResMed was inferior was the humidifier chamber. Most important to me was the EPR settings which adjust pressure on exhale vs inhale. Being able to set ePAP and iPAP and put a bigger gap on exhale vs inhale is incredible. Breathing is so much better now and my sleep is very deep. Couple that with the ResMed AirTouch memory foam masks which allow me to relax the tightness on the headgear and I get the best sleep ever. I'm finally entering REM state and experiencing dreams again!

Side sleepers rejoice! Near-perfect mask overcomes its few quirks and annoyances.

Very, very good system with excellent comfort and strong tendency to stay put through the night even on this side-sleeper who turns to the other side without awareness. I get great therapy results with this, without the annoyance of a mask over the bridge of my nose or a hose in front of me to tangle with. Comfort on the face is outstanding, hose stays out of the way. The front-facing vent holes can be annoying now and then, for example by blowing on my spouse or bouncing off my phone or book back into my eyes while doing some reading before falling asleep. The top-of-head part that makes this headgear so great for side sleepers leaves its impression in one's hair, and this seems worst for short hair. If your hair is long enough to be swept back by the headgear, or you have a buzz cut, you should be fine, but you may need extra grooming effort in the morning if in-between.

These are supposed to get better right?
29 May 2024

As technology evolves most things get smaller and lighter . This 11 isn’t that much smaller than my ResMed S9. The new water chamber, your lucky if you get one night out of it if you like humidification and not wearing a mask that has the humid x system . Also the brown hose that comes with it is heavy and more rigid than the white clear hoses of past and in the mask adapters . When you are sleeping you feel the weight of the hose pulling on your face. That’s not comfortable. Just don’t understand who gave the green light on that decision . One thing I will say is it’s quiet . Not so much that it outweighs the others cons . Not thrilled with this . I might just go back to my ResMed S9 and use this as back up .
