I purchased my first 2 Akubras in Australia, the first one almost 30 years ago. Unfortunately I never worn them. So a few ago I found David Morgan on a website and visited them, and of course walked out with a Coober Peddy. There customer service and collect on hand is awesome. I got the hat about a week ago; I had specifically chosen David Morgan based on reputation from other reviewers online, and I made a good choice. The hat came well-packed, with some other items secured to the box to keep from damaging the hat. Shipping took a week, as expected, but there were no issues.This hat is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. The leather headband is one of the smoothest I've ever felt and it makes for a great fit. The fawn color--while a touch greener than I might have wanted--wears well and gives a more neutral tone than a browner color might. This is a great hat. Well made and true to size. It handles water/rain very well and holds its size even after getting wet. Like all fur hats, this will shrink a bit if you leave it in the heat, but a had sizer returns it to normal in a moment.I know I shouldn't leave it in my car, but that's where it lives (hanging on the back of the seat), so it will shrink a bit, but like I said, quickly returns to normal.I'd love to see this hat available in the unlined version, like how they sell it in Australia, but I don't know if there's a market for it here.Anyway, great hat, good coverage, good sun protection and protection from fly line/hooks.

I wanted to exchange my cattleman hat for a smaller size. The problem was I recycled the packaging material before I decided to exchange it for a smaller size. I wanted to use the packaging from the new hat to pack up the old hat. I called customer service and talked to Linda, she knew what I wanted to do. She then transferred me to another gentleman who stated our store policy prevents us from doing this and thus wanted to charge me another $9 shipping to replace the hat. DM can say what they want but this is an exchange plain and simple. My understanding is exchanges are free. I was even willing to prepay for the hat and shipping. This is my second Akruba Cattleman's hat. My first was a gift 20 years ago. I still have it. This Cattleman's will be my dress hat. It has formed to my head as good as my custom made hat at 1/4 the price. High quality at a good price for the Akubra Cattleman. I am between a 58 and 59. However, wearing the hat 1 day has formed to my head. Nor a strong wind or a fast horse, I will not lose my hat.

I searched many options for weeks, even months, but always kept coming back to David Morgan and this hat. To be honest, I knew I was going to purchase this hat as soon as I saw it, but I was mostly skeptical about the color. Kept going back and forth between the Fawn and the Bran, but alas for me, the Bran was to be!Let me also say, this hat's main purpose is to accompany me on the Colorado waters as an angler's hat. I wanted more shade coverage than my boonie/baseball hats were giving me, but also something not flimsy or non-durable (for example, straw hats). I also wanted a hat that had a sense of style to it - and boy this one has gotten some nice compliments - more than any hat I've ever worn. Not expected but certainly appreciated! I've worn this hat a dozen times now on the water, in both scorching 95F heat, and so far down to 24F. The hat has never made me head feel hot (any more than I already was!), if anything I think it keeping the sun of my head/face/neck have immensely helped with the heat and I do find the hat very breathable. I have not removed the inside liner but that may be option one day - I just haven't seen a need for that yet. My hat ended up in the water once, with an errant gust of wind when my chin strap wasn't tightened down. Was able to rescue the hat easily, but it got dunked a bit. Not a worry at all, it dried out quickly being rabbit felt, and actually retained its shape perfectly. I can't wait to test the hat out in a true rain or snow, I think on what I've seen so far, it'll stand up to just about any weather that's thrown at it (barring a hurricane). I don't exaggerate here - this hat is like a good fishing buddy - indispensable! I will not leave home without it, and I don't consider myself ready to fish any longer until this hat is on my head. It's that good!I will also specify here, I do use a hat stretcher when I'm not wearing the hat, especially if I've been sweating and don't want it to shrink. In fairness, I haven't tested without the stretcher to see how well the hat retains it's sizing after a sweaty outing. I've heard about shrinkage being an issue, but with the hat stretcher it's never been an issue so I continue to follow this process to mitigate any potential shrinkage.This hat is (simply put) a joy to wear. I do look forward to wearing it. I happily recommend it to anyone, but especially other anglers that want something that doesn't necessarily reinvent the wheel, just does it better. You won't get any odd looks with this hat either - it just looks like it belongs. Form and function can co-exist on the river, and this is the answer. Do not hesitate to purchase one for yourself, you will not be disappointed!

I'm 70 and have worn western styled hats all my life. This is my first Akubra and I am totally amazed at the great quality! It is a supremely well made hat. I will probably be ordering another in a different color. I was also impressed by the excellent quick service from David Morgan. I had my hat in two days!
I knew when I ordered this hat it was going to be good. I owned a similar hat 20 years ago, that I grew out of. it is still in the same shape as when I bought it. So when I brought this hat with me for fishing in the northern sweden territory, I was not disappointed. The weather was horrible, but the hat kept me covered through rain and wind. The only thing I regret is that I did not buy a chin strap and maybe one size smaller as the wind was strong enough to kick it off my head. I solved the problem with a temporary shoestring but I will replace this with a real chin strap once I get home. The softness in the material made it feel like it was part of me.
