I have purchased two Akubra Cattleman hats from David Morgan over the years, and they are excellent working hats. The Coober Pedy has a less confronting crown profile and the color-matched ribbon is positively understated. I received it this week, put it on, and promptly left the house for a very long walk. It's worth noting that I carefully remove the liner from all of my Akubras. For me this gives better breathability and a more natural feel in the hand. The brim of the Coober Pedy is very similar to that of the Cattleman so the new hat felt great right away. Bluegrass Green is an excellent color for this style and is unlike any shade of hat I've seen in person before. Overall I find this hat to be refined enough that I will keep it in immaculate condition and ... MoreI have purchased two Akubra Cattleman hats from David Morgan over the years, and they are excellent working hats. My first Coober was worn extensively for 15+ years. It is promoted to field work but is still in excellent shape. The new one is for better dress situations. However, the new one does not have the inside the hatband eye-hooks to attach the leather chin strap. I wish it did so I could get the kangaroo leather chinstrap from David Morgan.

Love the hat! Fits well and the bluegrass green color is unique. Gave the hat a western flare by steaming the brim, turning up the edges on both sides with a front drop. Thank you Daniel Morgan for selling these great Akubra hats in the USA.

Took a chance on buying a hat online and David Morgan delivered the goods. Bought this to wear out west when hiking etc. Looks like it will work out well. Deliberately purchased a bit larger size so I could adjust it myself. Seems like a good plan so far.
Let me add my praise for David Morgan service to all the other reviews. Careful packaging and rapid shipping, not to mention handling the high quality Akubra brand. Thank you!The Coober Pedy is a wonderful combination of quality construction, comfort, and style. It can be used out in the field or in town. It's a sturdy hat and the brim is precisely the right shape. No doubt I'll be wearing it for many years. It's difficult not to compare it with the Stetson Open Road with the brim turned down all the way around. The Stetson 6X Open Road is about the same weight, so your hatter will have to steam the brim to get the right shape; the Open Road Deluxe is a more flexible hat with a snap brim. The Akubra quality is every bit as good as the Stetson, though it strikes me as just a bit less formal. Would still look great for an evening in town, but perhaps a bit more rugged. Considering that the Stetson is quite a bit more expensive, the Akubra is definitely worth strong consideration.I got the Bluegrass color and it is ideal. It seems to me to have a slight gray tint, at least in certain light, but its overall dark green color is ideal. I'm likely going to order the Santone Fawn for my next hat purchase. Many thanks to David Morgan and to Akubra!
This hat replaced a Traveller I had for 15 years that finally started disintegrating. This Coober Pedy is a little sturdier but just as comfortable. I'm glad it doesn't crush down like the Traveler, so it will probably be more durable. It also feels to have a slightly broader brim. Cool and comfortable, good for around town or working in the yard.
I've owned Stetsons, other Akubras (Cattleman, Banjo Patterson, Stylemaster, hemp, Traveller) and various Panamas. If you're going to get one hat for the great outdoors, this hat is hard to beat. Good for both sun and rain, it is surprisingly versatile. I've worn it summiting 14ers in Colorado, hiking in summer heat in the Sierras, and in winter rain around the Bay Area. Even stays on on in my convertible at highway speeds. Added a David Morgan braided kangaroo band to mine for a little flair.
I bought this hat because I have a hat addiction. But seriously, I do have a number of hats, and this was my second Akubra. I like the visual lines of the Coober Pedy, and it's got a unique shape that goes well with my assortment of hats. Fedora-like, but a larger brim. Perfect for wearing on a sunny (or rainy!) day when a cowboy hat or fedora don't quite match the occasion.
I love this hat. Do not hesitate to buy one, if you are thinking about it. It looks cool as hell, and it really keeps the sun out of your eyes. I have a huge head, a 7 3/4 - and the '62' fit me perfectly, right out of the box. But the best way to experience it is in the rain, during which time the hat can appear soaked on the outside but keep your head completely dry inside; I think this hat is meant to get soaked - take it to the beach, tubing, etc. Afterwards, take it off, hang it up, next day it's ready to go again. The hat is completely unafraid of the water. The green color that I chose is different, in a good way, and I am very pleased with it. The hat is lined but ventilated, so heat is not a concern. I've owned a cattleman and a pilbara, but this one is my new favorite.
I have worn Bailey, Stetson and Resistol cowboy hats for 30+ years. I shopped the 6x open road real hard, and then the Akubra hats. I started out looking into the Territory, then Riverina, but due to the lessor brim vibe of the 6x, I homed in on the Coober Pedy. I work with an Aussie who swears by Akubra. With all the great reviews here, I decided on the CP in Santone Fawn. Ordered Dec 21, received in Michigan the 26th. Super well packed, this hat is everything everybody has said it is. Extremely comfortable. Very well made (I think better than the 6 or 7 x Stetsons to be honest). It will be worn mostly as casual attire but often trips to the range and moderate bush whackin with the dog as well. I'm a 7 3/8 (L) with a little foam on the sides and this hat fits that ... MoreI have worn Bailey, Stetson and Resistol cowboy hats for 30+ years.
