I bought it for travel, but use it for hiking and camping (I haven't needed it for travel yet). It looks great (Regency Fawn) and works well. It keeps the sun, wind, and rain off my head, and is comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. It's functional and practical, yes, but stylish, too. While it's not my choice for wearing with a jacket & tie, I'm sure it'll look fine dressed up like that, once I take it traveling with me.I got the chin strap, and keep it attached at all times. When I don't need it, I just coil it a little and hide it in the crown. When it gets windy, I put the strap under my chin, cinch it a little, and the hat stays on-period. When I put the hat away in a box, the strap fits fine inside the crown. I'm looking forward to building a nice patina on the strap. Now for the very minor cons.In my experience, Akubra hats run a little small. I wear 7 1/4 hats from all other manufacturers, and that should equate to 58 cm. However, both of my Akubra hats are size 59, and they fit perfectly.I dislike advertising other people's wares, and so would like to be able to remove the metal "Akubra" tag on the hat band. Unfortunately, it is secured so well, with metal spikes of some sort, that I wouldn't be able to remove it without damaging the hat band, and maybe even the hat. This suggests that a change to another hatband might also be difficult. Fortunately, the tag is barely noticeable, so it's not a deal-breaker for me.Anyway, this is a wonderful hat, and I look forward to wearing it for many, many years to come.P.S.: I saw in someone else's review that Akubra also makes (made?) this hat in Sand. While I like Regency Fawn, I could see getting this, or one of their other hats, in Sand or Moonstone. I wish more Akubra hat styles were available in a wider variety of colors.

I have owned several different styles of Akuba hats and the Traveller is as excellently made. I bought the Traveller for a month's travel in Japan, just completed. It had to be smashed flat inside the luggage once during the trip, nervous as that made me, and it emerged several days late in great shape. Only a few times too warm for the conditions and activity level, most of time just right, and a few times kept my head warm in freezing conditions. Having no liner, it seemed more breathable than hats with a liner. Great hat!

One of the first things I tried was folding the hat to ensure it's memory. It was stiff and a little unsettling, but sure enough it rolled and unrolled completely fine - a feature if the hat isn't wet I've now used for air travel. At first the hat also fit slightly snug, but over the course of a week the hat loosened up and is incredibly comfortable to wear. In rain the water shedding is fantastic and dries very quickly. The brim is also just large enough for comfortable shade, but small enough to not get in the way when backpacking, doing active tasks, or even hopping in cars for a short ride. In heat the venting holes are a nice addition keeping your head from getting overheated - a problem I've experienced with lesser quality hats on desert/mountain trips.I ... MoreOne of the first things I tried was folding the hat to ensure it's memory. Not only for wind, but also hanging over chair backs and a hands free way to carry your hat around your neck. I was definitely raised with the fear of god should you ever forget your hat on your head unintentionally while walking indoors and/or eating, so any form of not taking up a free hand while still being respectful is welcomed.

I have yet to wear it but it looks lovely. I bought a size up as this is my second Akubra and I knew the size I needed to get after purchasing my first Akubra through a shop. I was grateful the lady from another shop told me that they will shrink a tiny bit so best to get next size up and put a foam inside the rim of hat so it sits nicely.I was glad I got an email from the staff from Hanna shop. Good to support a small business that has been around for a long time.
Even in Dec 2020 I sometimes leave the house without my mask but, I never forget to go out without my Akubra Traveller Hat!This is my second Akubra. Fantastic products.I purchased it for travel and it being SPF 50 rated. I bought the chin strap to go along because when I hike, I can get out in windy and steep terrain. The chin strap saved my hat on a couple of occasions. This is now my go to hat. It is durable and rugged and casual. The wide brim aids in sun blocking. The only downside is that in the summer on a long hike, the hat can be too hot. But that is not enough for me to leave it at home. I'll put up with the heat -- cause I can take it off in the shade -- and be thankful for its sun blocking ability.
I love my new Akubra Traveller.I wanted a versatile hat that could handle a bit of abuse while traveling. I tried a crushable wool felt from another company. It was a huge disappointment, so I was determined to find a crushable fur felt. Not easy to do.I was also worried about buying any hat sight-unseen. I worried how it would look, I worried about the quality and I really worried about the fit.Worried no more. The Traveller is a hit on all counts. OK, I can't vouch for durability, because the hat just arrived, but the quality was obvious the moment I opened the box. None of my hats from U.S. companies (including one that was rather expensive) can compare to this Akubra. My last remaining doubt was the "safari" style brim, and I was hoping I'd be able to ... MoreI love my new Akubra Traveller.I wanted a versatile hat that could handle a bit of abuse while traveling. Well, it looks good and seems to hold just fine. Thanks, folks. I love my hat.
You can see in the photos how great this hat looks, but when you pick it up in your hands you can feel the quality of it. It's soft and light, yet sturdy at the same time. When I put it on it seemed a little tight in the front , but when I pushed in on the sides as stated in the info sheet I realized its a perfect fit. I just need to shape it to my long oval head shape. The sweatband is super comfortable and seems very resilient. A much softer feel than the leather Akubra one.I don't intend to crush it to pack it or anything, but.....you never know. The fact that it's crushable is an added bonus. The Regency Fawn color is great. In soft light it's a natural earthy brown. In brighter fluorescent light more grayish. I'm an Akubra fan, and the Traveler is my favorite. I've worn the same Traveler on almost every backpacking and fishing trip I've made for the last 10-12 years. I left it at home only during the hottest weather. I use a spray-on water repellent (sorry, I can't recall the brand right now), and I usually wear it through the rain so I have the benefit of the brim instead of taking it off an using the hood on my raincoat. I've used it for all sorts of things it was never intended for, including a pillow. It still holds its shape and, other than the dirt and stains, it still looks great.Speaking of the dirt and stains, I have not been able to find anyone who still knows how to clean and block hats. Brushing it (which I do regularly) goes only so far. I managed to ... MoreI'm an Akubra fan, and the Traveler is my favorite. Brushing it (which I do regularly) goes only so far. I managed to sponge some of the worst stains off with odorless mineral spirits, but I wish I could find someone I'd trust to give it a thorough cleaning.I noticed another review mentioning band replacement. I replaced the band on mine with another braided leather band I liked better. It was easy to cut the stitching to take the original one off and easy to stitch the new one in place.I bought a chinstrap thinking it would be useful in windy weather, but I never used it.
Just got my 2nd traveller hat in sand yesterday. I got my first one from David Morgan in regency fawn 4 years ago which looks as good now as when i first got it. I have worn that hat in rain, snow and sun and have loved it. I been waiting for David Morgan to get the sand color. I ordered this color for the hotter days of summer. Every year i get a cheap paper straw summer panama hat that does not survive till the next year. A couple of rain showers at grandkids baseball & soccer games and its ruined. This hat will be with me in the grandstand cheering them on for many years to come. The best thing about the traveller hats is they fit me right away (Size 60cm). The only negative is that sand is a very light khaki color not egg shell white as shown on the web.
I bought my first Akubra over 40 years ago, and I keep coming back to this iconic brand. The Traveler's destined for my suitcase when traveling and my head just about any time I need a hat (outside of our Texas hot summers). The quality is evident, the fit is excellent, and the comfort hard to beat. I like a little smaller brim, but that might be a Campdraft purchase some time in the near future.
