AWESOME Drum Kit

I LOVE this drum set. I borrowed an acoustic set to try out drumming, but seeing as I have a small house and no garage, that created a problem. This kit fixes that problem (mostly). It's defiantly a LOT quieter than an acoustic kit, but even if you're wearing headphones, other people can still hear the sticks tapping on the pads. I had to negotiate with my sister about when I could play so I wouldn't bother her, but it all worked out in the end. I got this one mostly because it was cheap, but it had the full kick drum pedal. I've heard that the ones with just a hi-hat pedal aren't great. And I'm glad I did! I've been working on my double kick drum technique with no problems. There are some learning features that are cool but it's a little complicated to use them and the manual isn't that helpful. It isn't as easy to pack up the kit and move it as the video shows but it's not too complicated. I've taken my kit to the backyard for a few covid safe band practices and it takes a little time to move it, but not to bad. It's also a bit hard to get everything in the same place when I bring it back inside, but still worth it. I also got the expansion pack with an extra symbol and tom. It has room to plug them both in, and I learned that it works with duel zone toms, which also means you can have a single zone tom and add another symbol. Great kit! Awesome for beginners!

I found most of the time spent setting the unit up, was taking its components out of the shipping box. That took awhile, and also making sure everything was included. The basic setup, including rack, drumpads and the hooking up of cables to them, was relatively short. It all depends on how you want them set up. As a person who is quite tall, the recommended set up by ALESIS was not workable for me. It meant reversing everything from what was suggested. But a player's preference and where the pads sit will be something that takes longer than actually setting up the kit itself. If the first kit in the 40 kits offered (25 manufacturer with 15 user edited kits) was all there was, I'd be happy. It sounds great, and with adjustable parameters from volume, pitch, panning, midi note and reverb, it offers much in the recording/studio world. I'm not a fan of heavy reverb on drums unless the song calls for it, so be aware every kit offered has a substantial amount of manufacturer set reverb on each voice. But the user interface is very easy to use. I'm familiar with ALESIS products and have owned them for the past 30+ years, so the user interface is common to me. To a new user, the instruction manual is very easy to follow, and you should be able to be under way within a short time. The only detraction from the kit itself, may be the response of the hi-hat pedal. This may be because the influx of notes being sent to the drum module may not catch everything. I just know you have to be precise with the hi-hat as opposed to all the other pads and cymbals. Everything else is responsive, and the mesh heads are so much easier to play than rubber pads. They do feel close to actual drums when hitting. Which is great for the hands and wrists. Rubber pads give resistance, which can hurt after some time with repeated playing.I highly recommend this electronic drumkit for anyone wanting to practice, or record with it, and have something that is very affordable but sounds absolutely professional.

I've not had access to drums for years. But! They were the clearly missing piece of my current musical jigsaw. I'm never going to be the world's greatest drummer but this kit will help me keep it interesting. Firstly it's a bargain. This price for this much versatility is fantastic. 10 different kit sounds, training modes, direct stereo output plus monitoring output and audio input. Fantastic. The kit sounds are all notably different too, which was something I was a little worried about. It's a good variety of sounds. The whole thing is really easy to set up. Took me about 45 mins from scratch and with no experience but I was beating mesh within the hour. A previous reviewer mentioned something about the bass drum control being the only downside to this kit. I would agree that it's the least good part but is still really pretty good. You just have to be really quite firm with it. I think you have to just remember, it's 10 kits, that will teach you to be a better player, great input/output versatility, it's actual mesh drum heads, and it's all under £250. Great value entry level piece of equipment. Cannot praise it enough!

Good for the money. 5 stars for a kit in its price range

It's good for practice or a jam session with your guitar/bass buddies. My friend has it and I played it for 2 hours with some friends. I'm used to playing metal on an acoustic set. You get what you pay for. The bass tower isn't good for double bass. I've actually researched every alesis kit over the last month and apparently every alesis kit has it's struggles with detecting fast double bass hits. I was going to get the alesis crimson 2 se (about $1000) but heard its bass pad wasnt good for double bass. Then I found out you can upgrade the bass tower on this nitro kit to the Yamaha kp 65 for about $70 and it can use double bass (or so I keep hearing on the internet) if you're a metal drummer and just want a small practice set up (it is much smaller compared to an ... MoreIt's good for practice or a jam session with your guitar/bass buddies. It's nice quality especially for its price and the mesh heads give a realistic feel but dont expect it to be professional, pro kits start at about $2,500. Because its a cheaper kit parts are going to break eventually. Either get the pro coverage, or you can buy replacement parts/ heads/cymbals when needed. I read that nylon tip sticks keep the cymbals from denting. Again, this is better for bedroom practice after school/work or jam sessions with your friends. You can connect to a pc and make better sounds. Its a nice alternative to an electric practice pad if you have a little more space but still want something compact.I'm still new to electric drums, 65 drums on youtube has a lot of great informative videos on a lot of alesis kits as well as a lot of other electric drum brands. Definitely check him out, his channel is all about edrums.

Great first kit

Overall:This is my first drum set ever so I'm completely ignorant to the gear, but so far this kit is fantastic for the price and incredibly fun. I will sit for hours playing away and only feels like I'm playing for a few minutes. If you're on the fence, grab it. But some words of caution before you pull the trigger and you need to know a couple things. - First, the instructions are not very clear at all. You're going to need some common sense to put this thing together. - The kick pad is not big enough for a double kick. If you try to set up a double kick on it, the kicks will be too quiet even with adjusting the settings. It's best to invest in another kick pad that's larger if you want to use a double kick.- The snare is very small. It's only 8 inches diameter so unless you're extremely precise, it's best to upgrade the snare pad as well. Because of the size, the issue I keep running into is I keep hitting rim shots accidentally.I also purchased the expansion pack and it was definitely worth it. All in all, this is a great kit and I highly recommend you grab it. But if you're wanting to upgrade the kick pad and snare, then I'd suggest looking at the surge because it'll cost roughly the same price as the Nitro with upgrades. But the kit was absolutely worth it.

Great performing kit for the money, pleasantly surprised
19 June 2022

I had to replace a somewhat elaborate acoustic kit with a smaller and more quiet option, due to a recent relocation of my teaching studio. This kit showed up at just the right time on a price drop deal on one of the regular mailings, and I jumped on it, very busy in general with relocating and not knowing much about these electronic drums. I figured for the price there was no way to go wrong, and I was right. Turns out it is a very capable kit with some useful features not available in a traditional kit, like changing the drum sounds, a built in metronome, and built in training tracks, and of course the ability to adjust volume down to conversation levels. I added a Simmons speaker and the whole rig sounds and plays great for about $400 altogether. My son uses this kit with headphones to keep me sane at home. We discovered that you have to use headphones without a microphone attachment or the kick drum barely sounds. It would be nice if the crash cymbal had a choke trigger, but it does not.The whole kit is flimsier than I would like. It feels like it could fall in on itself. I may anchor it to the wall. The kit is smaller than I expected. He is 5'4 and he seems almost too big for it. Not sure how larger people use these. All that said, the kit does what it is supposed to do. The built-in kits in the module are fun to play around with. He is practicing willingly. He is practicing extra. He is having fun.

Needed a set of drums that fit my 400 square foot studio
19 April 2021

I have built three acoustic drumsets to use in my studios with differing configurations to get the right sound for recordings. Footprint in my available space has always been and issue and setting up microphones with stands multiplied those problems. I'm a guitar player, not a drummer, though I can lay down a basic rhythm in time, I either have drummers sit in or use my Alesis SR-16 for backing tracks. This set has a small studio footprint, is MIDI compatible, and can be combined with the Aux input for adding accents the SR-16 to give it a more organic feeling... or just be played through an amp in the studio. It solves all my problems. It may not meet the needs of hardcore drummers, the mounting rack is not designed for a lot of Keith Moon antics, but for cutting ... MoreI have built three acoustic drumsets to use in my studios with differing configurations to get the right sound for recordings. I already had a Ludwig heavy duty throne, sticks and other accessories, but if you don't some vendors do have a package deal with the extras available... you might look into that. It meets my needs, fits into my MIDI studio perfectly, and works with my DAW. With all the incompatibility issues with hardware, operating system conflicts, interfaces, software and driver problems, it was a great feeling to plug the drumset into my USB port and hear that Ka-Ching of connection and see the drivers loading with ease.

Very pleased

I'm a rank beginner as a drummer, but have been a guitar, bass and synth musician for many many years. I went with this kit because of the price point, review ratings, and total number of reviews overall. I read and watched countless articles and videos offered by home enthusiasts up to self-stated professionals who rated it very highly and I am not disappointed. This kit has been an absolute blast to learn on. I've even since purchased the tom and cymbal expansion pieces. The only part that I was less than impressed with are the sticks that it came with. Way too light, but I'll let my grandson use those. I bought myself a pair of Vic Firth XSA PureGrit which I like. The kit is set up in a downstairs bedroom and I can play all night though my headphones and not ... MoreI'm a rank beginner as a drummer, but have been a guitar, bass and synth musician for many many years. The kit is set up in a downstairs bedroom and I can play all night though my headphones and not disturb my family asleep upstairs, or even down the hall in the living room. I can't recommend this kit highly enough. Now, for full disclosure, I am 5'7" of average build, so they're not uncomfortable for me at all, but I can't speak for the experience a 6 foot tall, perhaps more rotund person may have. Otherwise, I'd recommend a buy and enjoy.
