Alien RPG
This is the official ALIEN tabletop roleplaying game - a universe of body horror and corporate brinkmanship, where synthetic people play god while space truckers and marines serve host to newborn ghoulish creatures. It's a harsh and unforgiving universe and you are nothing if not expendable. Stay alive if you can. The ALIEN tabletop roleplaying game is a beautifully illustrated full-colour hardcover book of 392 pages, both presenting the world of ALIEN in the year 2183 and a fast and effective ruleset designed specifically to enhance the ALIEN experience. The game supports two distinct game modes: ' Cinematic play is based on pre-made scenarios that emulate the dramatic arc of an ALIEN film. Designed to be played in a single session, this game mode emphasizes high stakes and fast and brutal play. You are not all expected to survive. The core rulebook contains one introductory Cinematic scenario, Hope's Last Day. ' Campaign play is designed for longer continuous play with the same cast of player characters over many game sessions, letting you explore the ALIEN universe freely, sandbox style. The core rulebook contains random tables and other powerful tools to quickly create star systems, colonies, missions, encounters, and NPCs for your campaign.

Superb - bridges the gap very nicely between a fan led RPG and franchise approved release.Meticulous detail, beautifully illustrated, and so true to the original film - and…not a single typo much less clunky syntax or broken grammar. Recommended

Nice detail, decent gaming characteristics, vibrant pictures, plenty of fluff. But layout was confusing, and page design left something to be desired.

Big beautiful book. The rules seem pretty cool with two different styles of play. Havent l had a chance to play it yet. Im not sure the groups I play in will want to break away from 5E. I mainly bought it due to being a huge Alien franchise fan.

I have been a fan of the Alien worlds for decades. I have seen every movie from the good ones to the bad ones. I think I have every related comic as well. I know this place, and my recurring dreams/nightmares are not being prepared for Mrs. Miles' Spanish class and trying to get away from Xenomorphs. The book is gorgeous and the rules are straightforward. The mechanics of the game are simple. The cinematic play versus the campaign play is a great addition. I can't wait to get my fellow gamers on an express elevator to hell, going down!
Having run D&D campaigns for almost 2 years, I approached the Alien RPG system with some experience with TTRPG mechanics, both in terms of D&Ds strengths and weaknesses. The Alien RPG system, with its focus on cultivating fear and panic, is an excellent system with unique mechanics that I cant wait to try out (even if Ill have to keep a lot of tables and cheat sheets in front of me). In particular, the Alien RPG does a couple unique things (at least in my limited knowledge of TTRPG rules): first, the option for Cinematic Play is a great concept, limiting the story to one session with 3 acts and giving each player personal agendas that change as the story progresses. Second, the stress and panic mechanics (which remind me of the sanity mechanic in Call of Cthulhu) ... MoreHaving run D&D campaigns for almost 2 years, I approached the Alien RPG system with some experience with TTRPG mechanics, both in terms of D&Ds strengths and weaknesses. In particular, the Alien RPG does a couple unique things (at least in my limited knowledge of TTRPG rules): first, the option for Cinematic Play is a great concept, limiting the story to one session with 3 acts and giving each player personal agendas that change as the story progresses. Second, the stress and panic mechanics (which remind me of the sanity mechanic in Call of Cthulhu) are interesting, and combined with the low-power character stats, make for a tense and dangerous scenario. The book itself could have done with some better organization. For example, key mechanics often have you flipping pages or chapters to get the full concept. Also, a one-page cheat sheet for new players and GMs would have been great (these are available online, so no big deal). As for the mechanics, the one thing that worries me is the concept of referring to tables in combat. Signature attacks by the creatures require a dice roll on a table, the effects of stress require a dice roll on a table, critical injuries require a dice roll on a table (one for players as well as a unique one for the Xenomorph), etc. Conceptually, this allows for varied consequences, varied reactions by monsters, and more specific descriptions of damage, which is great in a TTRPG, but in practice it may be cumbersome to keep so many tables close at hand while running the game. Overall, Im really excited to try this out. There are some great ideas in here, as well as streamlined mechanics to create a fast-paced, dangerous, sci-fi horror game.
I am a alien fan and let me tell you I love what they have done here. If you have ever played Call of Cthulhu and liked how that game works you are going to like how this works. The game is easy to learn, however the book looks like it would hold more information then it dose. Some pages have about two paragraphs of information on it some have one. I do like that the group has a friend, not friend , and enemy game system in it. So in your group of party members you have someone that you are allies with someone that you don't care about and someone that you hate and work agents which makes for drama. However your friend can be your enemy and your enemy your friend very quickly here so grab this book look it over and have some fun.
I decided to buy this after a friend played in a game and gave it enthusiastic reviews. So I bought it for myself, and to be honest it exceeded my expectations. The book itself is impressive. At 392 pages, it isn’t small, but it wasn’t done on the cheap either. It’s well constructed with lovely illustrations. While I won’t go into the nuts and bolts of the system, I will say it is simple, elegant, and emphasizes quick resolution and roleplay. It’s divided into two types of games: a regular campaign, where the players explore the sandbox of the setting, or cinematic- the players will find themselves in a scenario that plays out like one of the films, with perhaps one or two surviving the session. The setting is massive, and the detailing of it is thorough. Stunning, ... MoreI decided to buy this after a friend played in a game and gave it enthusiastic reviews. I've played a lot of DnD and a good amount of the Expanse RPG, which is similar but almost needlessly complex, prior to this game... This system has plenty of chunk but still feels very efficient and streamlined. I love the Alien universe but I'm also so happy and surprised they made this RPG so well. So far I've only been the GM with several different groups, but it's easy to learn for the players, and really intense. There's certainly a lot of work for the GM, but you can plug in players and get them up to speed extremely fast. Highly recommend this RPG, they nailed it.
This is a heck of a tome. Beautiful original artwork throughout (not just pictures from the movies), and the TTRPG cinematic gameplay itself is pulse pounding and exciting. Just started a campaign mode game and already the random tables and established lore is making it a very interesting game to run
Using their simple and flexible system made popular in their Mutant Chronicles, Tales from the Loop and Forbidden Lands games, the Alien RPG is a treasure trove of info about the background world of the ALIEN movies. With the exception of Alien Resurrection (and the AvP series), the official canon is now ALIEN, ALIENS, ALIEN 3, and Prometheus and its 'sequel'. Rules are clear and easy to understand, the classic Xenomorph (and the new Neomorphs) are covered, and yes, there are pulse rifles..:) This is not Traveller, however. Buying starships is very much a GM off-the-cuff experience, and there is no interstellar trade system as such. The game places alot of emphasis on survival horror., not exploration or trade. Still, all in all, worth every penny.
