Alpinestars Air Plus V2 GORE-TEX XCR Boots Black 48

Alpinestars quality is definitely going down recent years. I bought these boots about 13 months ago and have only used them for 5k miles. The edge trim is coming off on both boots in multiple places. One is not as bad as the the other, but the bad one has three places where the adhesive is separating. I hardly ever ride in the rain - mainly just summer heat.This is the second of three purchases of Alpinestars products in the last year where the quality/durability is less than a premium brand should have (IMO). The other is a jacket with a new type of thinner strip hook and loop fastener that gets blown open by wind repeatedly.This is really kind of disappointing as I've had good luck with Alpinestars gloves, but I'm probably going to look elsewhere for a while ... MoreAlpinestars quality is definitely going down recent years. Bought these boots to replace an rapidly aging A* SMX WP boot. I was looking for a sport touring boot, still WP with better venting and better tread on the sole for walking off the bike. I wanted a pair that had a lower profile that could be slipped under riding pants. I got some of these features.The video review from Revzilla is pretty accurate. The boots almost fit like any typical American shoe (ASICs, New Balance, 5.11 boots, etc.) BUT they are wider than most shoes. I wear a 2E running shoe, and I might have too much width at the ball of the foot. Weight is slightly lighter than racing boots of the same height, but the shin plate make them almost (but not quite) as difficult to slip under riding jeans.These boots are less stiff than racing boots, and I expect them to be more comfortable for walking. I don't expect them to grip the ground any better than racing boots. There is no appreciable tread on the sole. I was unable to find any boot with a good tread for walking off bike but still WP with venting.Overall, they are typical good A* boots with the good Gore Tex liner. They are not exceptional.

But the hiking boots wore out so I figured, let's get some actual biker boots this time. Bought these to start the new season and am actually pushing it, getting the bike out in March here in Maine -- so I've only worn these Alpinestars twice and not yet in the rain (so I can't comment yet on their waterproofing). However, know this -- I was not confident which size to buy since they use the European sizing, so I bought the 46 and found them too small (I'm usually a size 12). Would have tried the 47 but out-of-stock so I went with the 48; a bit large so I put some drugstore insoles in them and they fit great! Returning the small pair was easy and I had a new, bigger pair AND a credit on my credit card within the week, outstanding customer service! The boots are very comfortable, even for walking around, and comfortably warm at 45F. The velcro closures are bombproof, and the boots are quite heavy, comparable in weight to winter snow boots. I can't imagine these boots ever coming off in a crash. Love the reflective strips on the heels! Overall I am delighted with these boots and expect to have many seasons of comfortable riding and crash protection in all weathers.
