I had the Lone Peak 7s for all my trail running and canicross running. I may have used them for other things which caused them to wear out quicker than anticipated. BUT I was able to get the Lone Peak 8s for a great price. These are the perfect trail running shoe to anyone who likes barefoot shoes. I normally wear Xero HFS for everyday wear. So switching to running in the Lone Peaks was super easy. I also have a pair of older Altra Torins I use for road running.Altras are my go to for trail running. I just took them home and threw them in the washer on a delicate cycle. I took a magic eraser to the super muddy parts that didn't come clean. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am... looked like new! they've already been on a few runs, and I race with them this past weekend at the Winchester Battlefield 5k.

What can I say about the Altra Women’s Lone Peak 8 Trail-Runners?!? I love them. I recommend them to anyone who will listen. I have two other pairs of the Lone Peak 7s and Lone Peak 6s, and this latest Lone Peak 8 version is the best. I cannot praise these shoes enough. As always, Altra hits it out of the park with the spacious and large toe box so that my tootsies can spread and breathe as I run on the trails and chase after my dogs. The upgrades to the tread on the bottom of the 8s keep me secure and stable on wet grass, mud, and loose sand. I first took them to an agility class with my dog, where they kept me upright, dry, and comfortable as we ran complicated courses requiring me to make tight cuts and hard stops – all of which were on wet, soft grass. I then took them on a spring season hike and faced loose sand, mud, and puddles. I’ve also worn them to workout at the gym for cardio and weights, and they provided the perfect amount of traction and support. While I haven’t had the chance to test these on a backpacking trip, I will most certainly be using these to help haul myself and gear on the trails. When I pack in Yosemite, I replace the insoles of my trail runners with more rigid hiking insoles due to the rocky terrain, then swap them back to the originals once done. That helps keep the shoes solid when managing different terrains with the extra weight strapped to your back.Overall, I love these shoes to the moon and back and will be an Altra Lone Peak lifer. My last pairs held up great and never got any holes; they only started to wear on the tread. I will continue to buy these and preach to anyone who will listen that they need to get a pair, too.

I've been searching for a new trail runner and I have found it! Love these shoes right out of the box. I first did a 5 mile trail run in a redwood forest right after a pretty significant rain. These shoes were excellent - especially the stability and grip on the slick downhills and ability to really grip well on the uphill climbs. I love the room in the toe box (I had on thicker wool socks due to the cold and still plenty of room for my toes and wide foot!) and the overall lightweight construction. The other thing these shoes have that may only be something I'm picky about is plenty of room for my ankle bone (lateral malleolus) and the back heel doesn't go too high or stiff on my Achilles'. Aside from the daily runs, I've taken them on a couple long hikes that had a ... MoreI've been searching for a new trail runner and I have found it! Love these shoes right out of the box. I'm really happy about this feature because I prefer to hike in trail running/lightweight shoes as opposed to heavy hiking boots. Finally, kudos to Altra on the color - I'm a huge fan and just so happy to have this color option.

As someone who requires a wide toe box in order to prevent chafing and blisters on my toes, I so appreciate the shape of this shoe. I normally wear a 9.5 Wide Hoka in order to have enough room for my toes to spread out, but I easily had the same amount of width if not more in the toe box of these Altras. I was particularly impressed with how grippy they are considering they’re pretty lightweight. If you are someone who wants to feel more cushion on your sole for running, then these may not be for you as they are fairly thin-soled; but if you’re someone who likes to be able to feel some of the topography of the trail on your feet, these are great. The tread is quite aggressive and I found it to give me stability on surfaces. Great zero drop trail shoe.
Have been running/backpacking/working with the lone peak's for years now. And absolutely love the Lone Peak. I wear it at work as an RN. I run half marathons in these shoes. I backpack in this shoe. I trail run in this shoe. The lone peak 8 feels different out of the box from prior versions, and not in a good way. A side by side of wearing my broken in lone peak 7s has me saying, "why does my broken in 7 have more cushion than my brand new pair in the 8?" Prior to buying a few reviews mentioned this, and I agree. Do I still love the lone peak for its fit, negative drop and trail performance, yes. My ask Altra is: please bring back the cushion of the foot bed in versions past. This particular foot bed insert is distinctly more stiff with less cushion. With intentions to trail run in some rocky terrain, this is not ideal. While I would not recommend the 8 to a friend, I would recommend the 7.
Excellent for my purposes. Altra shoes were acquired by VR Corp., but maintain Zero drop and wider toe boxes--toes can wiggle inside shoe. No toe spring (as in jester shoes)--toes and foot pad and heel at same level, just as in the human foot-- even though exterior design mimics this current fashion. Toe spring pulls toes away from the footpad at an angle and stretches lower-foot muscles while constricting muscles on the top of foot. I appreciate the choice of subdued colors. Had to switch to minimalist shoes after having foot nerve damaged by twice wearing overbuilt, carbon-plated, rigid shoes with toe spring--extremely cushioned, but I had no sense of surface I was walking on or that my feet were being mangled. Disclosure: I received this item for free exchange for a honest review... Wow! When I tried these on for a quick run, I was surprised, the roominess and cushion support is amazing. Natural fit, honestly the room and support in the shoes feel like I'm walking barefoot on clouds. Typically where I run or walk there's tons of terrain and these shoes kept up and I never lost a beat. I did get them a bit dirty on my run but they were so quick to clean. After using these pair of shoes for a consistent two week period, I have not want to put on my old hiking/running shoes. I found my new to go brand for running/walking or hiking. Bottom line, I would definitely recommend these shoes to anyone, I've already convinced a few family members and my husband to purchase a pair and they are as impressed as I am.
I've owned many pairs of Altras shoes over the years. I found this model to be a little different from my previous Lone Peaks. The signature square toe box was the same, and especially beneficial for people with wide feet and allows for space for feet swelling after a long hike. if anything, it felt wider! The outsoles provided better traction than previous models, more grippy and ideal for rugged terrain. The shoe laces stayed put so I didn't have problems with loose laces while on the go. Lastly, the shoe felt lighter overall, which I also appreciate to keep the runs and hike longer.A two characteristics I didn't like about this new model was the insole was not as comfortable; like it was lacking cushioning. I felt more of the terrain through the bottom which could lead to foot fatigue on longer hikes/runs. Although this can easily be remedied with a shoe insert. Secondly, I miss the metal gaiter hook. The shoelace hook version just doesn't seem as secure, but I suppose it works the same.Overall, I like the shoe, but I'll probably go get an sole insert to increase comfort.
I was struggling with a brutal and persistent case of plantar fasciitis. The last time I had it it lasted 18 months, and I spent thousands of dollars on a variety of recommended footwear (and podiatry appointments and PT). This time after about a month of it, I went again to the local (awesome) running store and they recommended the Astra Lone Peak. I had never worn a no-drop shoe, and at first they made it worse. I was literally in tears and occasionally unable to walk without assistance. I then bought a pair of Tread Labs insoles, popped them in the Altras and had immediate and lasting relief. It was an utterly magical combination.I love the tread, the color choices are pretty good, and the toe box can't be beat. They also seem to be holding up really well. I wore the first years of Altra and had to stop because they suddenly became huge at the heal like for cankles etc. I couldnt keep my heals in them anymore. Im so happy you put a heal cup in these and made the ankle adjustable for smaller or bigger ankles. This version really locks down the instep. Im looking forward to doing steep mountains. Also love the ripstock nylon. It should dry faster in wet brush. Lastly what a fantastic roomy toe box without making the whole shoe gross and wide. No tennis balls or newspapers in these shoes to stretch the toebox. I have been trail running for 30 yrs. My feet are not warped by bad footwear and Im not chunky so my ankles are small, my heals are small, my instep med and muscular and I have a wide toe box from wearing good ... MoreI wore the first years of Altra and had to stop because they suddenly became huge at the heal like for cankles etc. I couldnt keep my heals in them anymore.
