A lot of light for a little price!

I bought two of these to use as my primary lighting for a BMPCC4K, I normally film at 60fps so more light is needed. I paired these with some Neewer softboxes and put all the diffusers and reflector they came with on them and was still able to film at the camera's native ISO of 400 at 60fps. So when you hear these are bright, it is not an overstatement.I have also left one of the lights on at full power for over an hour to see how loud the fans inside would get at a normal room temp around 75F. It was no where near as loud as I was expecting based on other reviews and even with two of them they will never be a problem for me. But it does make it something you have to pay attention to.

Light was decent while it lasted, although for $300 I expected more than 1 year of service. Based on Aputure's marketing and reviews on B&H, I assumed the Amaran line was a lower-featured, less rough-and-tumble version of a pro-grade Aputure light that could handle dedicated, fixed-placement duty in my video studio, turned on and off once per weekday. Died yesterday and no apparent remediation or support through Aputure. My bad for trusting the hype and letting my desire to save some dollars get the best of me. I will avoid Aputure/Amarand going forward, and instead will seek professional-grade tools even though the initial cost is higher ("buy once, cry once"). It's embarrassing to admit to this newbie mistake, but hopefully others will not do the same.

Don't bother going cheaper, this is the best value for $

Picked one of these up for a second light with more power than my Godox 150, and now I'm going to immediately replace my Godox with another of these. I already had a P60x, and this light works with that one using an app on the phone and that was unexpected and now immensely valuable to me, with lights mounted high overhead that I can not control remotely. For the price, I never expected this quality and usability but am grateful for it.

Even better then the previous
16 April 2023

I bought the previous version of this light and found myself using it ALOT. When they announced an updated version with better color, I bought two more. The color on these newer lights are noticeably better right away. For the price, these lights are a fantastic deal. They do a great job of answering so many of my production needs. What I enjoy most about them is their size. They are very light, easy to rig and setup. Amazing light output for the money. Sure the build quality may not be metal, but who exactly are these people that throw their gear around anyway? If you're a normal person that doesn't punt their gear all over the place, they'll last just fine. And the sidus link is so good, that I've made the conscious decision to invest in mostly Aputure/Amaran ... MoreI bought the previous version of this light and found myself using it ALOT. For the price this thing is awesome.

We are shooting this through a 6x6 and it has plenty of power. The Bluetooth pairing works great if you stay within range but can be slow to reconnect when it drops. For us that is fine, we just use it at full power with a remote power switch to turn it on and off. It is much quieter than I expected based on what I had heard in reviews. This matters even less to us because our space has some background noise and the light is at least 10 feet away from the talent. The build quality is clearly lower than a 120d or 300d but for the price I won't complain. Great deal!

Gets the job done - as advertised & at a decent price.
27 January 2022

If you have been hunting around (like I have) for a way to upgrade your studio lighting (beyond that weird insufficient crap on Amazon) but aren't quite ready to spend at the professional photographer or "Influencer-who-has-100k-1mm-followers" level, this sites in that sweet-spot. Low noise, ease of use, one-time setup and leave it up. Probably want to think about getting a better stand, that lightweight stuff that you got elsewhere to hold am 8-10" LED light is not going to cut it once you put a soft box on this thing. Light enough to move aside, quick click through 20%-40%-60%-80%-100% brightness levels. All around solid product, great price. Thanks Adorama, will be shopping here more often!

Great affordable lights with some questionable build quality
18 February 2022

I'm sure you've seen the reviews so I won't bother with light quality. It's good, it's bright, and it's accurate.I use this light for product videography.Three or four months now and the little knob that you use to adjust the light brightness has cracked in halfIt's cheap plastic but the light itself is still functional. Also just realized that you get a whole extra year of warranty support by registering? At least I think that's how it works.I'll update my review if possible assuming Aputure/Amaran replace the knob for me.

Great combo of portability + power
6 September 2022

I love this light for interviews on location. Small footprint and since it's an LED doesn't have a huge power draw, but powerful enough to provide a strong key even in a bright space with a lot of sunlight. Color is very natural and flattering on all skin tones at all levels of dimness/brightness. I have a set of 3 that I use all the time - great workhorse light if you shoot a lot of interviews!

Pros far outweigh any cons!

I have had my eye on an Aputure 300d II for about a year in the process of building out my freelance video kit, but couldn’t quite justify the cost when there are cheaper (and notably less quality) alternatives. When this was announced it was a “shut up and take my money” situation and I have to say I have not been disappointed in the slightest.Understandably, there are some trade-offs for the lower price point, but they are ones I’m very willing to make. The noise is something many on YouTube have criticized, but for a pro-sumer buying this entry-level light product, you likely don’t even need to worry about the noise.I recommend this 200d to new buyers, or those expanding their kit.

Very solid
17 July 2022

I like that Aputure has decided to try and compete more with Godox (of which I own 6 - 3x60W, 2x 150W, and 1x100W). I own 2x of the Amaran 100d LED and one of these and have zero complaints about the 200d. It is bright, easy to control, and super light which makes it easy to tote around. I use them all for photography and for video on occasion. Very happy with my purchase. Will not be buying any more Godox LEDs in the future (though I will continue to buy their strobes and flashes). These lights are just too good. The only knock I could say is they are a little plasticky. It feels like the dial will eventually give up and fail whereas the Godox lights are very solid, but that is a nitpick about a possibility. For now - the 200d is a great bargain.
