VERY VERY HAPPY with this purchase! I purchased the Echo on prime day along with the Eufy Lumos Smart Bulb-White bulb. It came to about £65 at the time. I wish I had bought two in hindsight as a gift! I chose the Echo rather than the Dot purely because of reviews that the quality of speaker on the Echo is better. A few friends of mine have the Dot so I knew of the benchmark quality, and I can say that the Echo is far better. It's crisp and fills the room. I mostly use this for listening to Audiobooks on Audible and it's fantastic. In the day I might have this sat in the living room where my friends and I can ask Alexa to play various songs we call out. As I said, I also installed the Eufy white bulb. Thus far, I must admit it. is quite gimmicky. I don't really end up asking Alexa to do anything with the build. If I had more of a choice I would have bought one of the coloured bulbs, because they have more features like synchronising with the music etc. But again, probably just quite gimmicky. One potential use I'm yet to do is just move the bulb into my bedroom so that I can ask Alexa to turn the light off while I'm already in bed. But anyway, yes, would definitely recommend.

This proved to be a bit of a challenge and having to shell out more $$ for Chromecast dongles. Google Home does not have an AUX port. As for saying "Hey Google" and asking things like "whats the weather forecast" or "whats the temperature today", Google Home did a nice job. The sound is clear and response is quick. Setup of the Google Home was seamless and quick. Since that time, Google sent an update that allows one speaker to pair via Bluetooth with the Home. As a speaker the Home is decent, don't expect powerful bass or earth shattering sound.Enter the Echo Gen 2 - AKA Alexa, which I received as part of a promo offer. The Echo took a lot longer to setup, it would not recognize the WIFI for some reason. After restarting the Echo a 4 times, turning the wifi off and on my phone, moving the phone closer, etc....I finally managed to get the Echo configured. No instructions provided, the device points you back to the App installed on your phone. After getting the Echo setup, i had navigate the App, which is somewhat confusing. Too many things! I wanted to figure out how to connect my bluetooth speakers up. I secretly hoped the Echo could pair with more than one speaker but no such luck. Turns out that the Echo has an AUX port in which you can connect a standard audio cable. Note to Amazon, make the space a tad larger to accommodate better quality cables. Anyhow I finally found the way to connect a speaker either through the AUX port or by bluetooth. My makeshift work around to achieve stereo heaven is as follows: I have one JBL Charge 3 Speaker connected using the AUX port. I then paired the JBL Charge to the 2nd JBL Charge, using JBL's built-in connect feature. Hey it works!! It sounds good, even at lower volume. i am not an audiophile but wanted to take advantage of the sound quality generated by the JBL speakers. I think highly of the Charge 3. You can use any speaker with the same functionality. I have not tried Echo as a stand alone speaker but other reviews indicate that its not bad.I had been keeping my eyes on the Alexa because of Apple Music integration. i tried Amazon Music through Prime, however when Amazon introduced the Amazon Music subscriptions all my "free" songs started to disappear. Using Apple Music is sweet! That was one of the limitations that I had with Google Home, very limited selection of music. Did not want to pay for Spotify or any other services. While many people say that there are issues using Apple Music on the Echo, no shuffle, etc. It seems OK to me, I can "Hey Alexa play Prince Purple Rain" and I hear the song in stereo. If you have tons of music saved in your Apple Music or iTunes, you can finally enjoy it through the Echo. Otherwise asking Alexa about the weather, time, etc is fine.Google Home and the Echo have their pros and cons. Amazon's integration is more mature, however I am sure Google with catch up. I have the Echo placed on the lower shelf in a corner book case, connected to an external speaker which is just one shelf above. I feel like the Echo cannot hear when I say "Hey Alexa" from across the room but that may be a placement issue. I can see quite a few advantages of this technology, particularly for education.

In general, Echo seems to have reached a "mature" level and there aren't too many changes left that could further enhance its current performance. Amazon chose the right card when drastically reducing the price for Echo 2nd Gen. It's also important to know that the product Amazon is selling is not actually a smart speaker, but its Alexa "core". And the best way to reach Alexa is Echo.

Ive been using this thing for YEARS! It is definitely time to upgrade it and get another one but seeing its held up so well, I dont have a real reason to yet. I love how its all hands free and I can ask it just about anything without stopping what I am doing. The speaker is great for music and it gets pretty loud. I am a baker and I keep my Amazon Echo in the kitchen where I have the most access to it. Not only for music, I love listening to podcast or asking it a question if I have my hands tied at the moment or I cant get to my phone. My kids love it as well and we all have our own profiles.

We have this in our kitchen. My husband often listens to music on it, sometimes radio. He checks the weather, news, all sorts of stuff. It’s so easy to use. The voice command is easy and works well. Our grandkids love to play music on this and dance in our kitchen. It’s very useful. Amazon Alexa can even give you different facts, about anything you ask!

Our main use with our Amazon Echo is playing music, which can be a frustrating task at times. Alexa doesn’t always default to the appropriate version of the song, meaning you have to use specific questions to get her to play right. She will also default to playing Amazon Music, despite us not having a subscription to that (we use Spotify instead). That being said, the sound quality is good and I do love the ability to control our Smart Plugs via the Echo and the Alexa app.

Alexa Echo is very very good

VFM - the Echo Plus (2nd Gen) we have bought, after lots of research with other smart hubs, is very very good. Sound is rich and even on half volume easily fills our large kitchen with music ... and as good as other smart speakers costing much more money. The Echo was easy to set up with the Alexa App and link up to our WiFi. Its quite discreet sat in the side and I really like the button on the top of the Echo to switch the unit off so not able to listen to anything. But it was such a good price it was hard not to buy it. We did consider spending a lot more money on a music hub - Apple Home hub that is just fantastic at 400, Bose & Sonos that are both very similar at around 200... BUT they are double - quadruple the price of the Echo. VFM the Echo is great so I would highly recommend it. If you have loads of money and dont care how much you spend buy one the other models out there but if you want VFM& a great little product - by the Echo.

Makes streaming music worthwhile

Picked this up after getting an echo dot. One of the best features of the dot was the ability to use streaming music by voice, but the echo dot speaker is terrible. The full size echo on the other hand has a good speaker than can easily fill a room with decent quality audio. That's really the only difference between this and the echo dot, so reviews about "Alexa" for the dot also apply here. The speaker here is not especially loud, but certainly loud enough to fill a good size room even when there are lots of people in it. Base is decent at volume levels below about 7/10. Any louder and it still sounds good, but base suffers and music gets a bit more tinny. You can also hook this up to a "real" stereo via bluetooth or audio cable, but if you are going that route permanently better to save the money and get the echo dot instead. A great option for a room, patio or gazeebo where you don't intend to crank the volume, and don't want to the clutter of other speakers and cables. Otherwise, the same can be accomplished (and better) using an echo dot and an external speaker , or your existing surround sound system.

Good Points: Surprisingly full, large and rounded sound from a small speaker. Honestly, I cannot fault the 360% sound from the unit which is warm and precise. I have the speaker positioned in the kitchen while I am seated at the computer, at least 10 feet distant in the living room: it picks up my Belfast accent with ease and precision. Not sure that I could say the same if I where from Kerry, Cork or Glasgow - based upon my YouTube viewing! Seeking access to my pop, rock and classical catalogue presents no problems at all to the Echo. Where has this fantastic piece of technology been all my life. I am going to order at least 3 of them as belated Christmas gifts to family and friends who will (correctly) believe they are communing with the Devil when they ask Alexa ... MoreGood Points: Surprisingly full, large and rounded sound from a small speaker. I am going to order at least 3 of them as belated Christmas gifts to family and friends who will (correctly) believe they are communing with the Devil when they ask Alexa to play Three Mantras by Cabaret Voltaire to be confronted with Alexa seeking it out and playing it. Now, that's what I call smart! If you can say Jussi Bjorling, Birgit Nilsson, Jonas Kaufmann and Joseph Calleja in any accent, yet not trip up the Echo, then you have a very high quality item!Improvement Points: That it is not twice the size with 4 times the volume! Preferably 8 - 16 times the volume actually - at least! Especially listening to Maria Callas, Abba and Kraftwerk. It could never be too loud!
