I bought this recently as I grew tired of reading on my iPhone and iPad. The former is too small and the latter too big and both are too heavy. This Kindle is Goldilocks of screens, exactly right. The digital ink actually makes for a reading experience that is both closer to paper than LCD screens and also better as well. Also, in direct light I usually turn off the back light to conserve power as it really isn't needed. This would be ideal for reading poolside on a bright day.The only downside is that the screen has a slight but perceptible delay to it, sort of like computers from the late '90s. It's not bad, really, but just not as instantaneous as an iPhone or iPad. Still, for the purpose of reading books, I believe it is outstanding.Highly recommended.

Love my kindle! Ive had 4 over the years. One a child broke by pouring juice on it. I got a third when I lost my 2nd for a month because I didn’t want to go without any longer. Found 2nd not long after so it is back up now but let daughter borrow it. My 3rd one died after 5 yrs so I got number 4 and I love reading on it. It’s so much lighter than a thick paperback or hardcover. I’m you can adjust the brightness but now on newest one now I can adjust the brightness as well. On vacation I usually have at least 10 books loaded so I never run out of reading material and my kindle is much lighter in the suitcase than that many books. I subscribe to one of favorite magazines which gets delivered automatically. Plus, I can adjust the font size if I can’t find my reading ... MoreLove my kindle! Ive had 4 over the years. This is an excellent update to my 2018 Kindle Paperwhite.Pros: It has a larger screen than the previous generation. It uses USB-C to charge which means I can use the same cord for my iPad mini and this device. The warmth light feature is something I absolutely adore. I included a picture with the warmth turned all the way up on the new kindle at 15 percent brightness and my 2018 kindle at 15 percent brightness. It makes a huge difference to my reading enjoyment. But never fear you can turn it off if you hate it. The device speed is WAY snappier. This is my 3rd paperwhite and I was so disappointed that the 2018 model moved so slowly. While my computer and tablet are still way faster there is a notable increase in the speed at which my books open and the pages turn. ... MoreThis is an excellent update to my 2018 Kindle Paperwhite.Pros: It has a larger screen than the previous generation. This decreased the time it took to add my books to collections as well.Cons: it’s heavier and larger than the previous model. It’s not enough to be a deal breaker. In fact, I love the screen size, and it actually fits more comfortably in my hand. The on button is still at the bottom. While I rarely accidentally turn my kindle off due to the case I use, some users do find this really annoying. I still miss the text to speech feature that my original kindle had. I prefer reading over listening to books but sometimes when I have to be on the move or when I’m cooking it’s a nice feature to be able to turn on. But again, this feature has been missing on several generations of kindles now and I still love them. Also, it does not come with a wall adapter. It just has the cord. I have plenty of adapters but it is worth noting for those who do not.Overall, this is a huge upgrade from my 2018 paperwhite model. The speed increase alone makes it worth the upgrade. But the added ability to change the warmth and the USB-C charging capabilities are just icing on the cake. If you haven’t upgraded in awhile or even if you have recently picked up the previous model, this model is still worth the upgrade in my opinion.

I wanted to get back into reading and this has been my way of getting into again. Kindle unlimited if you read several books a month is great to have with this device. It is small and extremely portable. I find it easier to carry this around instead of a book of any size. The warm light on this generation is great. I can turn the lights off and read a little before going to bed easily. I would recommend getting a cover for the instant sleep awake when you close or open the cover. 16gb storage would probably have been better long term, but 8gb was a good place for me to start to see if was going to use this enough. The software takes about 1.5gb of the storage. I have several books downloaded at the moment and have plenty of space. This would not be the case if I was going to download my audible books, but I haven’t and don’t plan on using it for that. I use my phone for my audiobooks. Your mileage may vary, but I love this device so far. I’m glad I got this and don’t go overboard with the Oasis. This size is perfect.
I read 131 books last year using the Kindle app on my smartphone. It worked well, I always had a book or 3 on hand, and the bulky, poor battery e-reader experience I had a decade ago convinced me that my smartphone was an ideal reading device. I was wrong. I love, love, love the new Kindle Paperwhite for it's immersive, enjoyable reading experience. It is lightweight, feels well balanced in hand, and is easier to hold than my smartphone despite the sometimes awkward bottom power button placement. The screen is a joy to read with - clear, crisp text with infinitely adjustable brightness and tint. The softer light from the Paperwhite has actually helped my insomnia. If I wake up and read, it is much easier to drift back to sleep. I had my smartphone set to dark mode ... MoreI read 131 books last year using the Kindle app on my smartphone. The screen is a joy to read with - clear, crisp text with infinitely adjustable brightness and tint. The softer light from the Paperwhite has actually helped my insomnia. If I wake up and read, it is much easier to drift back to sleep. I had my smartphone set to dark mode and didn't realize how much blue light it was still emitting, keeping me awake at night. The battery charge lasts for weeks and stands up to the challenge of a rigorous reading schedule. I love that I can queue up dozens of books to read and still have plenty of storage space for more. The ad-supported version isn't much of a bother, although the ads are tailored to your reading interests. I quickly figured out how to turn ad filtering on to keep the romance novels off the lock screen and keep it family friendly. I also set up the Household and Family Library to select books specifically for my kids to read. I can create a child account, manage their digital content, and hand the Paperwhite to them to read without worrying that they'll stumble into less age appropriate reading. I tried an Audible book with the Paperwhite, and it was simple to connect my headphones via bluetooth to stream the book. I felt like using the bluetooth consumed a bit more battery life and didn't see much advantage over using my smartphone, but it is nice to have the option. Overall, I am glad that I made the switch from smartphone reading to the new Paperwhite, it really, truly is a vast improvement in the reading experience beyond what I could have imagined.
First off - I love having an e-reader and the kindle is one of the best. This newer slightly larger size is well weighted and the screen is clear and crisp. I don’t catch myself hitting the bottom power button quite as much as the prior version I had (maybe just the way I hold it). The screen colors and contrast are nicely done. Book downloads are fast. The only reason for a four star rating is the speed. These are not overly complex devices and it annoys me sometimes on the processing speed (in comparison to modern phone). Highlighting text, hitting settings, browsing kindle books online, etc all seem slow (hit or hold, wait a second, then the action). It would seem like a slightly better processor on Amazon’s part would improve the experience and not raise the ... MoreFirst off - I love having an e-reader and the kindle is one of the best. This new 2021 Kindle Paperwhite is a really nice upgrade from previous generations. It has a larger screen with the same 300ppi screen density as previous Paperwhites, and now has the addition of warmth light adjustment as well as brightness. It’s nice to have a warmer light backlighting the screen rather than the bright blue of previous Kindles. USB-C charging is available now which is becoming the charging standard for almost everything, so that is nice. The page turns and navigation are certainly faster than previous generations as well. My only quibble is the Amazon software that is baked in and can’t be changed. Ads on the Lock Screen and constant offers for Audible or Prime Library and Goodreads integration are also present on your homescreen always. If you have smaller hands you may want to try in store before purchase as it is just on the cusp of being too large to read one handed. I’m happy with my purchase and the new hardware is nice but it isn’t a five star device because of the Amazon software.
I confess: I loved my early version keyboard-equipped Kindle reader. When it finally began cracking here and there, I dreaded replacing it. I don't like this Paperwhite other than its price. Maybe I should have spent more $, but I'm not sure the more costly versions really work better. The screen is decently readable. Pages turn OK, though sometimes seemingly randomly. Purchasing and downloading new books is hit and miss with the device. Better be ready to use your computer to buy and to tell Amazon to download to your device. The book may get there. Perhaps I sometimes expect too much from 8GB, but I always left home on vacation with several books loaded to my ancient Kindle. Often I get away only to discover that the titles I thought I was bringing along aren't in ... MoreI confess: I loved my early version keyboard-equipped Kindle reader. The dang thing won't use a phone hotspot to access books, so forget reading.
Oh I’m literally obsessed. I was shocked. I was super anti-kindle it for YEARS because I’m not a screen reader, I like turning pages, I like a physical book collection, yada yada. BUT — I’m not even kidding, I cannot put this thing down. I read 4 books in 7 days because of how much I truly enjoy it & how easy it makes reading. It’s not super “technologically advanced” like an iPad/iPhone & can sometimes be a little slow to get back to your library or shop the kindle store, but honestly I have 0 issues with it & it’s easy to learn how to use. Part of me also wishes the book covers could have some color BUT I think that would mess with the overall “true to paper” style so I don’t mind the black & white. The screen is not your average computer/tablet screen. It’s soft, perfectly lit, & is such a comfortable read. You can set the text to multiple fonts/sizes, change the brightness & warmness, and the charge holds for weeks. I’m now actually searching for the physical books I have ON the kindle because I’d rather read them there. If you’re on the fence, I doubt you’ll be disappointed. It is slightly more expensive but waiting for a promotion/sale made it definitely doable for me!
Glad to have a Kindle again! I had a Kindle Oasis for about three years until I sold it about 6 months ago. At the time, I am too busy to read and it was just collecting dust. So, sold it to someone who would be able to benefit from using it more than me. Shortly after I sold it. I wish I hadn’t sold it. Then I was on YouTube and I learned about this new model released. For the price point (on sale for $99), it was a no brainer. So I went to Best Buy and I picked one up for myself. I have to say, I love it more than the Oasis. First of all, it’s lighter and USB-C charging!! It also has practically the same features as the Oasis did and at a significant fraction of the cost. It is well designed and light in hand. I had to get a TPU case for it for extra protection and for a better grip. A case is not required; just personal preference I suppose. At the end of the day, I am glad everything worked out. I am back to reading again and just love this new Kindle Paperwhite. I highly recommend it!!
