Comes with preinstalled thermal paste making it easier.The only downside is the stock wraith cooler fan. It's quiet and that's very nice, but cooling side, get an upgrade. Especially for overlock. I upgraded my 4790K CPU mainly used for Solidworks CAD modelling, not out of necessity but for fun and future-proofing. The 3600 is 2-3 times faster than the 4790K in most scenarios so that was a bit of an added bonus. I do have a Threadripper 1950X for rendering, but single-core speed is very important in Solidworks when rebuilding of large models takes several minutes. And this CPU is significant faster than both the Threadripper and the 4790K. Only reservation is that I do recommend that you replace the Wraith Stealth CPU cooler with something better. It is very noticable (due to throttling up and down all the time) and my temps hit 85 degrees in a cool office @100% load. The be quiet! Dark rock Slim is perfect for my needs: cool and silent.

Bought this a few months back and overall think it's a great chip. Do yourself a favour though and consider an aftermarket cooler. Under high load (particularly CPU heavy games) I started getting temps in the high 80's. By all means consider testing the stock cooler first but make sure you monitor your temps and if they approach 90C don't keep damaging good silicon. I'm using a Cryorig H7 and temps sit around 60-65C under high load.
Using with a Thermalright Assassin 120 cooler, doesn't go over 55 degrees during any of the games I tend to play.I couldn't justify the extra $70 for the 5600 given the marginal improvement.
Running Ubuntu 20.4 on a B550 -A Pro from MSI with 16Gb RAM. Just keeps on punching. Clocked to 4Ghz on both CPU & RAM nice and stable. But mostly running 3.6 & 2.8(RAM) to keep heat down as using stealth cooler. Little Pink Unicorn _Very HAPPY!
I got this as an interim chip until the 5000 series is available, as my intel 8700K got fried. Well, this cheap little chippie really rocks! The auto overclock app has it running at 4.5GHZ and it is noticeably faster than the 8700k it is replacing even at stock clocks. Boot times are much faster, and particularly 64 bit progs are flying along on all cores nice and even. Heavy gaming gets the temps up to around 70C but not throttling. So happy with this I've no rush to upgrade to the 5000 series. This would be a great multimedia PC chip!
Machine previously had an Intel i5, upgraded it to this. The chip has a propensity to overheat and run hot. I kind of expected that with the boxed fan included, but even fitting it with a Aerocool Cylon 4F ARGB CPU Cooler, it still runs hot and I need to watch it while gaming to make sure it does not overheat. "Normal" heat range is 75-80oC in an 18oC room. I could not be less impressed if I tried, and am constantly kicking myself at losing out on a fantastic running machine for a PoS. Not worth the money, go with Intel.
Replaced my i5-3570k with this. So far so good.Only con I can think of is the included stock cooler is absolute trash and I recommend ditching it ASAP and using a custom cooler.So it loses a star. Decent cooler and I'd give it 5 stars.Stock cooling it easily reaches 90 degrees Celsius under load and thermal throttles. Used my old Hyper 212 Evo from the i5 this CPU was replacing and load temps (depending on circumstances) sit between 50-70 degrees.
I do mostly web development but also some video, graphic editing. I'm seeing much quicker transpile times for my JS and SCSS assets. I'm working on a large project and nodejs it was taking quite a while to transpile, concatenate and minify my files. This CPU it has reduced these tasks to 1/3 of the time it used to take. Very happy.
