This cpu is hard to find stats for. Few reviews from youtubers that are out there simply hate Ryzen 5 4500, but that might be due to price at launch, and for this CPU being not a new shiny thing, but a gap filler. With the recent price reduction - this is a good value offer from microcenter. This is a budget way to get into AM4 platform, which is at the end of its timeline, but still is strong. The performance while not the same as all the top dogs, still keeps up in many tasks with i7-8700k, which is still plenty for most of applications today. I got this CPU for my son's machine, where it is paired with GTX-1080 for an ultimate FHD study/play machine. Keep in mind that if you want to install it into an old AM4 motherboard it needs to have a fresh BIOS.

I've been reading many lukewarm reviews of this processor from super hardcore computer techies, especially gamers. I can't speak for system builders who pay up the wazoo for the absolute best components that money can buy. I can only speak for budget builders. If you're someone whose build was functional but getting so old that your options to upgrade were getting severely handicapped (for example, no more driver support for sound, graphics or mobo), you can't go wrong with this CPU. I was making the jump from AM3+ to AM4 and before this came out was looking at a minimum of 300 bucks to get an equivalent system. All my programs from before are running smoothly and I'm also finally able to use some I wasn't able to before. I do have one complaint, which is why I knocked off a star. The heatsink + fan combo uses a different mounting bracket than my motherboard, so I couldn't use them. What this means is that if there's a mismatch with your mobo, you may either have to use a preexisting fan + heatsink combo, buy a new one, or purchase a new bracket. So, there's this small issue to consider before buying this CPU.

All I'm gonna say is. I've bought this processor like 10 times since it launched, and have only stopped purchasing them because there's an even better value option now, the non-X version. You can't beat the value, and it's perfect since AMD dropped the 5800x3D. So if this one, or the 5600 non-x aren't holding up for you, the 5800x3D is the perfect step up in performance. AM4 might be dead now, with AM5 being the future for AMD, but all that really means is, you've got and even better chance at building a true sub-600 budget build with a strong upgrade path. B550 boards will give you great memory OC capabilities, all the PCIe 4.0 for your current generation GPUs and at least 1 NVMe SSD.

Great economical processor for Windows 11 upgrades
1 November 2022

This processor is required for some upgrades to Windows 11. The processor provides a lot of security and stability. You may need to flash your BIOS for the X300 series chipsets but they will still give you good functionality with the newer OS. You will find that it is compatible with many mid-range motherboards that are good in gaming setups. The Renoir processors are very versatile, with good everyday purposes applications but can handle heavy graphics processing with support from good graphics adapters of a low midrange capability such as the gtx 1000s or RX 500s series.

Great performance for the pric

My company recently implemented new security policies on our workstations which effectively removed all administrative privileges from our user accounts. Finding this new policy as a hindrance on my ability to do my work efficiently, I decided to update my ~8 year old PC and do my work on my own equipment. Finding this new policy as a hindrance on my ability to do my work efficiently, I decided to update my ~8 year old PC and do my work on my own equipment. Coming from a third generation i5 processor, the difference is night and day. I did find that the stock cooler was not cooling as well as I would like, even without overclocking. So I did upgrade to a larger and more efficient cooler and my idle temps are below 40C, and jump between 50C and 60C under heavy load. My previous setup was water cooled but it is a pain to setup and maintain so for now I'm just keeping it simple with air cooling. I would have spent a bit more and purchased a processor with a higher core count but I have heard that AMD will be coming out with a new processor series with the AM5 socket, so I didn't want to invest too highly on this AM4 processor. This processor was my middle ground and so far I am very happy with it!

Powerful CPU with onboard graphics
31 January 2023

Good value product with decent graphics for onboard motherboard ports and suited to lower end PCI Express 3.0 such as a A320, A520, B350, B450, X370 or X470 motherboard. It will not run any PCI Express 4.0 lanes but the benchmark score is good and represented good value in comparison to the slightly pricier option. While motherboard prices are high at the time of writing people are offloading their old Ryzens at very low prices. This will be suitable for a very good office PC build, light gaming, entry level editing or more serious gaming with a powerful graphics card added to the system.

It will not POST because that version does not support the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x that came in the kit. The bios version that supports the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x is 1004 and beyond. I did not have an older AMD cpu to use to enter the bios and flash the firmware and the ASUS PRIME B550M-A/CSM does not have the flashback feature allowing the bios to be flashed by starting the system with a usb drive with the firmware. B&H service department responded quickly sending me a link to AMD for a solution. A boot kit where they loan you a compatible CPU. You would be advised to check with B&H before you buy this kit and see if you can avoid this scenario!

Solid performing processor, affordable,

If you are looking for a powerful desktop, workstation or gaming processor that is also affordable....this processor covers it all. I selected this processor for my sons custom gaming build and was not disappointed. I have the 5800x in my custom system and have been throughly impressed with the new chipsets from AMD. My selection was heavily influenced by some of my favorite online tech reviewers and needless to say they were spot on. We decided to watercool his with a custom AIO setup, it does however come with a AMD air-cooler. I can not tell you how well the air-cooler works as it was never installed or used. Still an awesome PC for gaming in mid-2022
24 May 2022

I know that I’m a little late to the party on AMD’s Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors, but I needed to build a desktop in the first half of 2022 (mostly for gaming )and decided Ryzen was the way to go. I installed this into a Gigabyte Aorus X570 Elite motherboard and paired it with 2x16GB sticks of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 MHz. Paired with a RTX 3060, my computer performs amazingly well for the price. I honestly feel like I got an amazing deal since the 5600x is $100 less than it was at launch. Even with the AM5 socket and Ryzen 7000 series on the rise, this chip is still extremely capable as a gaming PC, I have no concerns about my system being competent for years to come.

I recently bought a Steam Valve Index VR setup and started using it on my home theater PC (i7-6700 on an MSI Pro Carbon mobo with 16 gigs of ram and a GTX1080 GPU). I found that after running some games like Arizona Sunshine or Time Carnage VR, the CPU would spike up to 98-100% on all cores while the GPU was maxing out at about 45%. I decided to rebuild the computer using this CPU, an ASRock B550 Taichi, and 32 gigs of ram. I kept the GPU since a graphics card will pretty much cost you an organ these days, and the 1080 is still a strong performer. The 5600X is about 700 mhz faster than the 6700, has 2 additional cores and 4 more threads, a much newer architecture, and it made short work of load times! In the AMD lineup, for gaming, the 5600X is it. The 5800X is much more expensive for only modest gains (content creation tasks aside), and the 5900X or 5950X are waaaaay more expensive and very much aimed towards content creators. The 5600X is probably the very best price:performance deal in computer chips in a very long time!
