This is so that way I can hopefully purchase a discrete GPU when I am able to see a better comparison between and and Nvidia. Overall it is a fantastic processor with some
weird quirks such as the boost temperature that it tries to stay around but other than that stays fairly cool with a 360mm radiator on it. The one issue that AMD has right now
is the price which was at 399.99. The only reason I did purchase this processor was the free kit of DDR5 with the processor deal. That made it seem a bit better.

AMD will support the platform until then, so my next upgrade will be simply a new processor. In the long run, anyone spends a little extra on the 7700x will get, not only an amazing processor, but also an upgrade path to a new processor in 2 years! In the long run, buying an AM5 processor and motherboard will be the better cost savings over an AM4 platform purchase. To give my reference point, my previous computer was one I built in 2011. It had the following specs: 1st gen core i7-950 quad core 3.06 Ghz (boosts to 3.2 Ghz) 18 GB of DDR3 RAM SSD drive (SATA) RAID 1 - 8 TB HDD 7200 RPM AMD RX 570 - 8 GB video card I delayed upgrading because I had other expenses to deal with. My previous PC could run every application I needed except the latest PC and VR games. 1080p gaming is fine for me. I'm glad I waited for Ryzen 7 7700x and the AM5 platform. Navigating the desktop is incredibly quick and snappy. The boot times aren't as fast as I thought they'd be with M.2 NVMe storage, but I think thats a result of the length of time it takes the computer to POST. After the POST, the desktop comes up incredibly quickly (though this is a function of the storage and not the processor). At idle, the processor cores run at about 3.1 Ghz to 5.1 Ghz and consumes about 20 - 35 watts. My favorite thing about this processor is that the box states the boost clock to be 5.4 Ghz, but because I paired this thing with a 360 mm AIO cooler, under load, the processor regularly boosts to 5.5 Ghz. In my video game benchmark I recorded evidence that it boosted to over 6 Ghz! This won't be a result everyone gets unless you pair this with a great cooling solution and good thermal paste. Here is my Timespy score: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/34863269 Look for the line: Clock frequency 6,048 MHz (4,500 MHz) My other benchmark scores are as follows: Night Raid: https://www.3dmark.com/nr/817760 Fire Strike: https://www.3dmark.com/fs/29329474 I think its a great future proofing processor that gives great performance. I can't think of an application that give this processor problems. All of my games run at hundreds of frames per second. Every office application opens faster than expected and nothing stalls ever with this processor. I can't even imagine what application I'd need to run that would make me consider upgrading this thing!... Show more

Great CPU for Gaming
5 October 2022
Overall, very satisfied with this CPU. Recently built a new gaming-focused computer with this CPU in it. The only other CPU I have on hand to compare to was the previous generation Ryzen 9 5900X, not quite a perfect comparison but an interesting one nonetheless. In Cinebench the 7700X saw a 6% lower score than the 5900X, not bad for having 4 fewer cores. However, the 7700X saw a 27% higher score over the 5900X in the single-core GeekBench 5 benchmark and even a 7% higher score in the multi-core GeekBench 5 benchmark. This CPU is right on the edge of being comparable to the 5900X in places where 8 cores will do you fine. For gaming, it’s perfect for me. I highly recommend for those who want a high end gaming CPU and even those who do light rendering work.... Show more

Great CPU with new AM5 socket
21 October 2022
I am really pleased with the system I built with the Ryzen 7700X. It is a great CPU. I haven't experienced any issues with heat at all with gaming or regular use. The system is fast and a great upgrade over the 5800x that I previously had. The system is just as quiet, and most likely quieter with the fan curve I used for both gaming and regular use. I've been using AMD chips for the last several generations. I've enjoyed being able to use the same board for several generations of CPU's, and this is the reason I chose this setup this time around as well. While it may be quite as fast as the 13700K, the difference is not something that would make me want to switch over to a socket that is going to be replaced in the next generation. I have nothing against Intel, and ... MoreI am really pleased with the system I built with the Ryzen 7700X. It is a great CPU. I have nothing against Intel, and in fact use a laptop with their tech, but for my gaming PC I felt this was the better option. I am running my 7700x right now in Standard (Default) mode, but have tried ECO mode as well. For those who don't know, you can set the Ryzen to run at 65W if you want it to use less power. To be honest, I haven't seen a situation yet where I am worrying about it, so I have just left it at Default. There are a lot of options for playing around with getting it to be power saving or power hungry, but for most users I think the CPU stock will be a powerful upgrade and well received. My only complaint with this CPU is the boot time. There is about 10-15 seconds of what I think is RAM timing before the system boots into windows. The fans run at full tilt during this time. After that, it boots into windows in 5 seconds or less. I am hoping future BIOS updates reduce that time, but I have gotten used to it at this point. Overall I am very happy with the CPU and look forward to gaming and future upgrades as new generations come out.... Show more

Incredible Chip!
6 March 2023
This CPU really surprised me, coming from a 5900x I didn't expect much in terms of performance and as for averages it was not too noticeable but with 1% lows I could really notice this CPU putting in work. It is also extremely power efficient as I have PBO tuned it and put a Max 90 watts and 80°C temperature target while still hitting almost 5.5Ghz in my SFF Meshlicous. So now it runs cool and quiet even with my low profile IS-55 cooler while still getting excellent performance. Highly recommend this chip especially to SFF users as I do not think a 13600k could be cooled this easily and will also not have any upgrade potential in the future which can be a major issue in SFF builds as they sometimes take careful planning.... Overpriced Taiwanese, Chinese Products
28 January 2023
I went from AMD to Intel with the 10900k. AMD and their pricing is ridiculous for what it is. These all chiplet based cpus shouldn't cost but half of what AMD is asking for it and it's all manufactured in Taiwan. Literally pennies on the dollar in labor cost no different than Chinese companies. AMD made a terrible choice increasing the price on these parts. Whoever made this choice at AMD should be evaluated. Rather it be the stockholders or chair members. Intel is now charging a decent price because of AMD finally. It wouldn't of happened if not for AMD.... Show more

Pretty good! but not a huge upgrade from the 5800X
5 December 2022
Same as the title says. It's pretty good I can't honestly say I notice any difference in performance from the 5800X. Maybe 5-10% better performance? Runs Hotter than 5800x and stays at higher temps using the same AIO cooler. Setup was pretty easy. Upgraded to AM5 because of that 32GB RAM, $50 off MOBO deal. Ended up paying 200 for a full upgrade after selling old parts. That part I am happy and completely satisfied with.... Show more

Quite the beast!
1 November 2022
I built my first Rig ever with this chip, and after putting it though some stress tests and games it holds up wonderfully. I will admit I have an arctic liquid freezer II 240mm aio to cool it, but I bet you will get similar performance with most aios. I haven’t tried overclocking it yet as it runs fast enough for basically all my needs and games, but the fact it can even go faster still is pretty rad. My only negative is the weird price bracket its in, just enough cheaper to not be lumped in with the new 9’s but also doesn’t really have a direct competitor for it’s price. Again, it has worked really well for me, nothing against the chip, just hard to find something to compare it to that’s fair.... Show more

Solid performance

Nothing to complain about. Placed in socket powered on, it works. Free ram with purchase was the reason for this chip over the non X variant. That deal makes this a more affordable option at the time of review than the non X variant. Running it with a 240 AIO, temps do get warm, but rarely near 90c. Operates in the 60c realm on a daily basis. Cinebench r23 multi core score of just under19000 sincere of 1978. It's fast, the system responds fast.... Show more
