But if you're planning to future proof, then ddr5 will be the standard in the future and this processor is definitely will last you a long time! If you're still buying 7900x/7950x processors, just remember to get a very good AiO cooler(I recommend at least 280 or 360mm radiators) to get the most performance out of it since it'll heat up to 95C at maximum workload out of the box without any tuning. I personally undervolted and underclocked mine so it runs at maximum 70C and 145 watts while only getting about 5-7% performance drop.

I think it's one of the greatest CPU's, high core count and better than ever zen cores; but entire Zen4 release undermined a bit by Intel 13th gen. Othen than 7950x has been failing against same price/performance tier, yet! Recent price drops are really helpful and turns to tide for AMD more (even high MoBo and Ram prices stays). I think 7.5k looks fine, if you compare Germany and US market (+tax to Europe), 7.3k ish values could be best fit for today's market. Also, CPU itself reaches 95C (and works without problem), but it could easily be lowered by thinner IHS or better thermal solutions in IHS.

I bought this CPU the moment I could, and put it in new build featuring an Asus ROG Strix X670E-E motherboard, Corsair 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000Mhz RAM, Samsung 1TB 990 Pro SSD, Samsung 2TB 980 Pro SSD, Corsair HX1000i Power Supply, Corsair H150i Elite Capellix AIO Watercooler, Sound Blaster AE-7 discrete sound w/DAC, and I'm patiently waiting for an AMD Radeon 7900 XTX. After setting up the CPU and other parts, I was able to install Windows 11 in under 5 minutes, and that includes declining the bloatware during install, and the several reboots to initate drivers. The quickness and efficiency of AM5 systems cannot be overstated. Out of the box, this setup ran a Cinebench R23 multi-thread score of 38713, and a single-core score of 2016. Fast, powerful, and flexible

The Ryzen 9 7950x is everything I needed. With top end single core performance and a massive core count, this thing crushes any task I throw at it. The high core count makes it easy to handle numerous VMs as well. As for flexibility, the eco mode power options allow for much lower thermals and power draw for only a minor performance hit. Definitely worth checking out if efficiency/thermals are a concern for you. Speaking of thermals, one downside is that it runs pretty hot in general. 45C-50C at idle, even with a 360 mm AIO water-cooler (Arctic Liquid Freezer II). Newer kernel versions supposedly fix this (5.20 ) but I didn't feel like manually updating. The other downside is the price, but recent discounts/price drops have made it much more competitive with Intel's offerings. Overall, if you need the best when it comes to performance, the 7950x won't disappoint.

Fast, runs more efficiently than Raptor Lake but AMD needs to lower the price.
2 November 2022

It's fast but not as fast as Raptor Lake, however the differences for most workloads between the two are not that substantial Depending on what you are doing it can be faster than Raptor Lake. And even if time is money your power consumption on Raptor lake is higher than on this CPU, not to mention Raptor Lake runs hotter and will more easily Thermal Throttle. On my testing this CPU kept all cores at turbo and and did not thermal throttle. If you have heavy workloads this would be a more efficient CPU, Plus it gives you an upgrade path. Given this the CPU is more expensive than the i9 so I think this CPU would be a better value if AMD lowered the price to match the i9 pricing. But there is not doubt this is a fast CPU for workloads.

Monstrous CPU power
24 March 2023

This chip is stupid fast! I needed a high core count CPU for work and this one fits that bill excellently. It supports all the latest I/O technologies so I should be able to use it for a while. It easily hits 5.7 and regularly sits at 5.3 under full load. I'm running it using a DeepCool LT720 LCS and it easily handles the thermals. I also game with it on occassion with my 7900XTX and have noticed zero performance issues. 4K120Hz is doable with max settings in just about every game I play. I should add that I got it for $150 off MSRP. At list price, I'd recommend the 7950X3D instead.

Rendering Powerhouse
23 October 2022

When I installed this processor for the first time, I immediately noticed a difference in render times, and the responsiveness of 3D software when real-time rendering. Everything is super snappy. Ryzen Master handles overclocking very nicely if you're like me and you don't like to mess around with voltages too much. But you can really squeeze performance out of this thing. If gaming, you can disable one of the CCDs and get crazy high clock speeds beyond what's advertised. If it meets the test of time, this could be my processor for the next couple years for sure. - Note: Be careful what fan you choose for this processor. Many heatsinks aren't compatible with the new AM5 boards. This caused a massive headache while installing so just a heads up.

Very good high-end CPU. Example processing time to comparison from Ryzen 5 3600 vs Ryzen 9 7950x on a 300,00 line spreadsheet with many formulas took about 6 minutes on the Ryzen 5, but now in less than 1 minute on the Ryzen 9. Video rendering is much faster using Corel Video Studio. Currently using AM5 Asus Rog Strix B650E-E MOBO with 32GB G.Skill 6000 cl36 RAM and Samsung 980 gen 4 NVME 7000mbs. vs MSI AM4 B450M Mortar, 16GB 3200, and ADATA 1TB NVME 7,000 mbs SSD. The 7950x has been running non-stop with no hiccoughs for 4 weeks. I'm using a Corsair 240mm AIO water cooler, and CPU temps never throttle.

Got this as it was on offer as I was looking at the 5950x for upgrading my rig; however, on black Friday this was nearly the same price as that so I thought why not. It does run hot so make sure you get a good solid water cooled system, I actually got a double fan ML120 system and it does keep it below its thresholds surprisingly well but I imagine anything with less capability would struggle with this chips heat. If you buy this do not cheap out on thermal pastes, coolers, mobo and your hard drive otherwise you're throttling your set up. So be aware the purchase of this chip does demand high end supporting equipment and probably not the stuff you've had for ages (if you're upgrading your rig)
