AMD's Ryzen Threadripper enters the second round. With the top model of the second generation Threadripper 2990WX, the Texans throw a 32-core processor into the race for the crown in the high-end desktop segment (HEDT). Up to 64 PCIe 3.0 lanes are provided by the 2000 Series Threadripper CPUs, supporting gaming systems and especially workstations with two fully connected high-end graphics cards and multiple NVMe PCIe SSDs. It also supports at least 1TB of DDR4 RAM in ultra-fast quad channel mode and native clock rates up to 2,933 MHz to create memory capacity for professional applications and server functions. Depending on the motherboard, even memory with much higher clock rates can be overclocked to get even more performance out of the Ryzen Threadripper CPU.
