Beautiful Glass Container

This is a very nice looking, heavy jar. I actually bought it to put my flour in, but decided to go a different route with that and use this one as a decoration. A bit early to be thinking of Christmas, but I saw where people were putting round glass ornaments inside and it was so pretty. So that's what I will do with this beauty. Flour can go in something more utilitarian, however, if I had room I would get a whole set of these for display of my baking essentials.

I gave 5 star because I like the item. Nice jar but item arrived broken, was poorly packed, no protection. In the box were 2 little glass containers, a nail polish and cream as well unwrapped, dancing inside the big glass jar that was unwrapped. As it shows in the photos 2 pieces of paper suppose to protect the the glass jar on the inside and outside surface as got shipped in a larger box? Well, it didn't, because what was needed was bubble wrap around and bubble wrap the other 2 glass little containers that were rolling free inside the jar. I need the jar and I will reorder 2 this time, if it comes broken again I will give up.

I have several of these lined up on my (large) kitchen counter. The 2 gallon size holds a multipack of chips (like the kind we pack in lunches), with just enough room to store the few left from the last bag, that weren’t thier “favorite kind†! The next size I have out is the 1 gal (two of these). One is holding a chocolate candy variety bag, and the other has treats like oatmeal pies, pb cracker 4-packs, individually wrapped cookie 2packs, basically anything that counts as a treat. I have a 3/4 gallon size that is holding a six-pack of microwave popcorn packs, while the 1/2 gallon jar holds our morning instant oatmeal and grits. Hungry family members can grab a snack without the usual “hey Mom, where is the (insert snack here)†. Also love knowing how much of which item I have left, at a glance! One thing that is very important to bear in mind: These jars are NOT airtight, so I would definitely NOT store flour/sugar, or anything else for which you need an airtight seal...I even have a 2gal in my bathroom to keep Epsom salt in, it looks beautiful and I always know exactly how much salt I have for my baths. I added a scoop, and I find that I go through Epsom salt a lot more slowly, now that I have it stored in clear glass, and added a simple meaduring scoop. These jars add a touch of organization to my home, and have drawn many complements from others! You can’t beat the in-store purchase pricing, too! One of the simplest and most inexpensive upgrades I’ve ever done, and I highly recommend these jars in EVERY size. Lunches are packed in no time now! Kiddo can pick out his own snacks at-a-glance. Excellent purchase!

Exactly like all the pretty, big glass jars you see in magazines and blogs! I put cotton balls in mine--it's so clean and refined!--so I haven't washed it. I did search for care instructions on the packaging to see if it is dishwasher safe (I recently ruined something, so,.... once bitten,....) but didn't see any instructions so if you are getting for food storage, I'm sure this is safe. There are NO SEAMS anywhere on the glass! This is a thick, nicely heavy (as in "quality") jar that looks way more expensive than it was! The inside of the lid even has a glass ridge to insure the lid stays on the jar (like when you're carrying it,.... or there's a minor earthquake,.... a major earthquake might be a different story, but they aren't advertising "earthquake resistant," ... MoreExactly like all the pretty, big glass jars you see in magazines and blogs! Loose Lids, No Seal
23 February 2022

These jars do not have seal rings on the lids. The lids are loose, sliding around on the top of the jar. I am afraid they will fall off when taking them in and out of the pantry where I was planning to keep them. If they did fall off they would very likely break since they are glass. They are useless to me. And I don’t want to have to go into the store to return them. If I had seen them in person I would not have purchased them. The description doesn’t say they come with a seal, I assumed that they did as they looked identical to a jar that I already had that did have a seal ring. I also couldn’t imagine anyone making a jar like this without one.

Nice, fragile, flawed, likely not tempered.

I like the design of these but they should explain that you need to make a DIY seal around the top with stand oil, beeswax or some other cheap and food grade material. A few design pointers on making this seal and also on a DIY wire clamp would be a nice touch.Other thought, a ready-made food grade natural rubber gasket and 16-20 gauge wire woven net-clamp would go a long way to both showing people how it can be done DIY and also improving the off-the-shelf utility of this product for all uses that a jar can be put to even if this is sold separately and DIY instructions for alternative seals and a hand-woven clamp are instead all that is included. The design in theory could be your longest lasting jar useful from anything from brewing, pickling, dry food storage, ... MoreI like the design of these but they should explain that you need to make a DIY seal around the top with stand oil, beeswax or some other cheap and food grade material. This is because the lid or seal and clamp are usually most likely parts of other types of jar to break from use if breakage from violent force is avoided. Being designed with a glass lid and good DIY seal and clamp potential make this jar potentially much longer lasting as the seal and clamp can be repeatedly repaired.Given the name "heritage" and the design I had hoped they'd last centuries or longer and maybe some of them still will if I can avoid violent breakage but for one it's already too late before it's even been used. I was disappointed with their fragility when I broke one by knocking an empty 375ml jar down from beside it where it onto it. The 375ml empty jar fell about 8" onto the side of the 1 gallon Heritage Hill jar and broke the jar. Meanwhile the 375ml jar was completely fine. The jars have visible manufacturing flaws accentuated by their size but also possibly due to a less precise process than some smaller jars. I know it must be hard to make larger jars as precise as smaller ones. I'm not sure if a flaw in the glass caused it to break without breaking the 375ml jar or if it was simply bad luck in the impact angle. It goes to show however that in spite of a premium price tag and a simple practical non-artistic design and a name like "Heritage" these jars are disappointingly fragile and likely not tempered glass which is supposedly 4x stronger than regular. Seeing some of the flaws like hairline cracks that do not penetrate the surface it's possible they are not even annealed. They can still potentially last centuries under regular use if you are very careful to avoid sudden impacts including of the lid against the top of the jar which is where a seal also comes in useful to pad it and prevent that type of breakage.Anyways these basically seem to be one of the top premium 1-2 gallon sized jars that are meant to be practical and not ornamental and a name like "Heritage" certainly implies heirloom quality. However as I have noted there are several obvious things that could be done to improve these jars utility and durability since I found them sadly fragile. In short, they are nice BUT:1. would be significantly improved by a food grade natural latex rubber seal and wire net clamp available as an accessory PLUS free DIY instructions for a few types of food grade seal like stand oil (vegan) or beeswax and hand weaving a wire net clamp of your own.2. Are sadly fragile for a product implied to be designed for centuries of use. Would greatly benefit both from tempering and annealing or other strengthening of the glass or whatever the manufacturer can do to make it most mechanically and chemically durable and food safe. Possibly even a thickening of the glass adding say an extra millimeter or few for increased strength. Tempering and annealing would likely fix most of the visible (and invisible) flaws.I would like to be able to buy the kind of jar (with modern upgrades and food safety features) that might be of legendary utility and durability in a medieval castle. The kind that might break a sword hitting it rather than breaking itself even if a small chunk got chopped off the outside. The kind that might last for centuries not only under the most careful use but also when subjected to some rough and tumble. That would be a truly amazing premium jar and a wonderful heirloom treasure. Personally I'd rather they spent more on making it better and less on product placement with the Kardashians who I'm pretty sure are rarely seen on camera near a single identifiable branded product they are not paid to be near. I have to question why it deserves a premium price as it currently stands. As it is making this jar last far into the future may indeed be a bit of a "Heritage Hill" for the user to climb but at least it's designed to be possible in theory. I would rather have interpreted "Heritage Hill" to mean that the user could already assume they were at the top of the hill when they made their purchase and could count on centuries of durability and use for granted. As is though it seems to be my and other user's hill to climb if they wish the product to reach heirloom or heritage status.

No lid seal is disappointing - hack below
28 October 2023

Nice big jar. 5 stars if it had a seal on the lid. I looked around for jar gaskets and couldn't find one that would work. I found a simple solution though.. get some 1/8" x 1/4" dense foam weather stripping (the kind you put around a door frame) and tape it around the protruding lip on the underside of the lid. Makes a decent seal. Might have to replace it from time time, but it's cheap and comes in long rolls. Works for 1gal and 2gal jars.

PERFECT for kombucha !!!

Perfect for kombucha. The wider the mouth the better for brewing kombucha and this one’s mouth is basically the size of the whole jar. Literally perfect. If you’re using this to store dry goods, it’s not seal proof and there is no seal on the lid, so you may want to look elsewhere. I know they sell one with an attached lid, that may work better for that purpose, and it’s a couple dollars cheaper. For my fellow kombucha home brewers, this is perfect. They also come in two gallon - which are awesome too! I keep reading people got them chipped, so maybe just pickup in store.Happy Brewing!

Very poorly fitting lid and with no seal!

I really shopped around for this item, which is quite hard to find in the one-gallon size & with a glass lid. It was a good brand that I recognized as having been around a very long time. The price was reasonable & estimated arrival date was 7 days. But I kept reading the description & specs over and over, looking for a mention of the seal. Nope. Tried (unsuccessfully) to search for customer questions about a seal. Ordered 2 of them anyway and hoped for the best! Unpacked them today & am so disappointed to find not only do they lack a seal, the lids fit horribly & jiggle around alot when you move or pick up the canister. So, sadly I am returning them tomorrow. Otherwise they were very high quality, heavy duty glass & quite nice looking. But they aren’t food safe if they don’t have a seal, particularly if the lid fits so poorly that it has obvious gaps. One downside of the very thick glass: once you filled the one gallon canister with flour or sugar, it would likely be much too heavy to lift easily. Belatedly, I used the app (rather than just going online to their website) to search reviews for the word “seal” and found several reviews that mentioned that it doesn’t have seals on the lid. Darn!

But what I *wanted* was the 256oz - except it was just too big, it felt like a no. I was hoping it would fit a full two 5lb bags - but it fits just over 1 5lb bag. If there was a size between the 1 gallon (128) and 2 gallon (256) I probably would have bought it.The opening is wide so it's still easy to scoop and level off flour. I wasn't too concerned with there not being a silicone flange to keep things fresh; I've kept flour in the bag just closed folded with a clip and never had a problem with stale flour, and I'm sure air got through. This one the lid sits nice on top. On several 256 models I had checked out in person, there was imperfections in the top rim/lid so that it was uneven in the seal.
