Andis Pet Nail Clipper Green Large

These clippers were more dull straight out of the box than a pair of clippers I have that are several years old. It felt dangerous to try to keep using them as I had to apply a lot of pressure, risking a slip. The handles also pinched me twice just under my index finger leaving a bruise each time. I gave up after that, tossed these into the trash, and got out my old pair. Still on the hunt for a really good pair of clippers.

Sharp, sturdy, gives a safe clean cut quickly every time. My Bichon finds getting his nails trimmed an easy job with these nail clippers. Too big for the nails of my havanese though.

These toenail clippers are very solid, sturdy, sharp and well made. I handle them comfortably and confidently in my larger woman sized left hand. And my Labrador Retriever, short legged Beagle and Chihuahua mix, hesitantly trust me to keep their nails clipped. (True, they don't know about the styptic powder I ordered along with these clippers;) So, since I've been entrusted to cutting their nails without pain involved, I do my best to live up to their expectations. I can see the Yellow Lab and Beagle's quick quite well in the sunshine, or a lantern flashlight beneath their nails (not easy). But, the Chihuahua's nails, however, remind me of black long grain rice. But since these clippers are sharp and easy to handle, I use the same rule of thumb: if you definitely can't see the quick, just clip off the pointed end of the nail, 1/16 of an inch at the most. And they do have a guide to keep you from cutting off too much. This is sufficient to cut the nail and gain the confidence in your pup to let them know you know what you're doing, (?) so you will build their trust needed for the next time. The Blessing is, the quick in each nail will slowly recede over a long period of time of just clipping a little bit at a time on a regular basis, perhaps once a month. In summary, these are excellent clippers for my Lab and Beagle. And although the advertisement says the clippers are for dogs of all sizes, they are awkward for me to cut the nails on my Chihuahua's small, fragile "chicken legged" feet. I need to get her smaller clippers. But for the stockier small, and medium and large sized dogs, I think these are really the Best!
