Antica Formula is the most faithful vermouth, by recipe, to the first red vermouth ever produced, namely that of Antonio Benedetto Carpano from 1786. It consists of white wines made from a selection of vines from Emilia Romagna, Puglia and Sicily, which are processed immediately after arrival in the cellar in order to counteract any oxidation phenomenon. And then high quality saffron from the famous highlands of Iran and caramelized sugar, accompanied by the essential absinthe (the word Wermuth from which this type of fortified wine derives in German means precisely absinthe). After a slow and laborious infusion process, the Antica Formula remains to refine a few months after the assembly of all its ingredients in order to harmonize itself at best and release the intense aromatic charge that characterizes it. It appears to the eye of a brilliant brown enriched by amber veins. The scent is centered on vanilla and citrus tones, which remain etched for a long time within a background built on notes of almond, cloves and raisins. The taste is full and round, pleasantly vanilla. It closes on a sensory carpet of unusual elegance in which it is possible to appreciate smells of bitter orange, dates and cocoa beans, with a final hint of saffron. Perfect to serve on the rocks, it can be used to make refined and exclusive cocktails such as the Americano or the Negroni Sbagliato.
