Best zinc based sunscreen

I have tried a few zinc based face sunscreens and this is the best when it comes to having a fine non-gritty texture and little white cast once absorbed. The product holds a nice feeling not extremely greasy once absorbed. But ultimately this product is very heavy and thick when applying, a quality I love in Antipodes other products but not for a face sunscreen, couldn't apply makeup without getting the brushes covered in grease so does not work well under makeup. Love that it's made with zinc but would prefer a thinner consistency it's too close to a balm. Wouldn't recommend to a friend as I feel it does not differ in benefits from a regular body zinc sunscreen. Am excited to see what the final product comes to.

In an effort to improve my skincare, I decided to splurge on this product after reading all the amazing reviews, hoping that it would motivate me to apply everyday. It is not at all what I expected, it feels heavy on the skin and leaves it feeling and looking oily. The white residue that appears when applying does fade quickly, but unfortunately, the oily look doesn't. It does sit well under make-up, which is good, as that will be the only time I will wear this product out and about. Without some setting powder over the top it makes my skin look at best, sweaty, at worst, oily and greasy. If you're looking for a facial sunscreen that feels like a heavy, nourishing night moisturiser/cream, then this could be for you. Not for me though.

I have brown skin so it did make me look paler for the first 30 minutes to an hour.

My skin was glowy and bright
27 August 2024

I liked the feel of it on my skin as an SPF. SPFs are generally thicker than moisturisers so while it was thick it was not uncomfortable on the skin. I found the scent was a little bland. My skin definitely looks glowy and brighter after using it. IT gives my skin a boost of life even after a night of little sleep. However, without the product on my skin, my skin looks like it has had little change over the last two weeks. I do not like the white tint that it gives my skin. Overall I would use this as an SPF under my makeup or bare faced. I would be interested to know the ingredients in it to determine what benefits these would have for my skin.

Nice product but took too long to absorb
27 August 2024

Unfortunately I found the sunscreen took far too long to be absorbed into my skin. I also don’t use sunscreen by itself as I have found it reacts in such a way that I end up with blocked pores all around my hairline, and this time was no different. It’s a shame as I find Antipodes to be an amazing brand and when I saw the product to trial was a sunscreen, I was ever hopeful that maybe this would be the one that wouldn’t cause pore blockages. As I am at high risk for skin cancer I would however use this sunscreen if necessary, as opposed to any other brand.Just to note, I have answered “false” with regards to the sits well under makeup question as not applicable wasn’t an available answer. I do not wear makeup so cannot answer this question sorry.

No irritation but not for me
27 August 2024

I think it would be good on much fairer skin. It left me looking somewhat pale/grey and I felt a bit self-conscious going out of the house with it. I tried using it with a tinted moisturiser after a few days, but my skin was irritated so I had to rest my skin for a couple of days. I put it back on when my skin felt better, and I didn’t have any irritation. It leaves a feeling of oiliness on the skin (similar to other sunblocks) but otherwise I didn’t mind it. It didn’t cause any acne breakouts over this time. I do feel that my skin is a bit softer at the end of the day. I would probably only recommend it to fairer skinned friends as I feel it might look weird on those with darker skin.I’m not sure if you wanted pictures of my skin after 2 weeks with or without the ... MoreI think it would be good on much fairer skin. No watery eyes! - Great that it is not scented and causes no irritation when used around the eyes area.

This is a tricky one as whilst I support wearing sunscreen everyday, I don’t believe that anyone actually applies enough of the product for it to actually be effective, especially when it’s being done as part of a day to day makeup routine. It takes at least a teaspoon of sunscreen for each limb and for the face - Women just don’t apply this much of ANY product to their face.I also don’t think that women will actually reapply a sunscreen product every 2 hours, especially when wearing makeup. On a day at the beach, absolutely, but not if they have done a full face of makeup for work etc. It will be don’t once in the morning (using an insufficient amount of product to be effective) and won’t be reapplied again.I have been using a Murad product called “Environmental ... MoreThis is a tricky one as whilst I support wearing sunscreen everyday, I don’t believe that anyone actually applies enough of the product for it to actually be effective, especially when it’s being done as part of a day to day makeup routine. I did a 1/2 face test with each and I can definitely tell which side is which.I also found the product took quite a while to dry down. When I’m putting on makeup in the morning, I just don’t have time to wait for before moving on with my make-up steps. This meant that if I didn’t wait long enough, I didn’t get as smooth a finish on my base (Westman Atalier Complexion Drops), as the two products mixed, rather than layering.Love that it’s not fragranced at all!! SPF can often be really irritating on the face, particularly around the eyes, causing them to sting and water. I had absolutely no reaction at all with your product which was great!

Not for me
5 November 2024

I am a dedicated sunscreen user and have tried many different types and brands in the quest to find one that works for me. I have succeeded but unfortunately not with this product, which I tried as I’m also a dedicated user of Antipodes skincare products. Despite having dry and sensitive skin, I find it very greasy and it leaves an oily, wet looking and feeling residue even after it’s been on for hours, which I find very unpleasant. I’ve tried it with the minimum amount for coverage, with no improvement, and I feel like I’m not getting as much protection as I would if I used a more generous amount. I’m disappointed as I’d hoped to love it but I don’t even like it, plus it was pretty expensive for a facial sunscreen. I’ll use it up somehow but will be returning to my usual sunscreen.

Obsessed!

Ok so I’m not going to lie, at first I did not really like the product, especially the way it left a white cast after application - Now I’m obsessed! My skin is so hydrated, it feels sooo much more hydrated too! Because it’s more hydrated it looks more healthy and plump! My makeup sits on top so much nicer also! I received the product just after I had a bad cold and constant blowing of my nose had made my already dry skin even worst! My nose was dry and flaking and sore and super sensitive, this cream was a game changer!! I applied this religiously to my face and It made the biggest difference in my skin especially where it was sore and dry! Too heavy for me
27 August 2024

I really am a huge Antipodes advocate and use most of your product range regularly, however this product didn’t meet the mark for me. It felt very heavy to wear as if my skin was clogged and this was more pronounced when I went out in the sunshine and did exercise. I also was not a fan of the shiny/white sheen it left on my skin, almost made it look greasy and did not seem to absorb particularly well into my skin. It would be interesting to know what the level of SPF in this product was and whether this would provide full coverage. I do prefer the sunscreen I use from another range, which is lighter weight, more absorbable and transparent on the skin. I did like how the product wasn’t heavily laden with a strong smell, however I do like some of the natural scents used in your other products, so you could equally afford to have some sort of subtle scent added. From a practicality viewpoint, I would find it helpful to have a product used daily like this in an easy to dispense pump bottle and perhaps in smaller travel sizes for bags, if this could be made recyclable. Look forward to seeing the end product.
