Great little pad. I’m not a real tablet user, prefer computers, but this is less clunky and awkward than most with which I’ve worked. It has good potential.A real missed opportunity was to not make this as useful for the consumer as it could have been. There is no SD card slot and the only adaptors offered by Apple permit transfer of JPEGs only to the device from an SD. No USB or external media is supported because of on-board software blocks imposed by Apple. No PDF, DOC, or other files can transfer to and from the unit with the Apple adaptor. The company has not provided USB nor SD slots and blocked with proprietary software any direct access with these media types, even if an adaptors is used. Third party external media can overcome this but it’s not inexpensive and a bit disappointing that after paying a premium price for this tablet, money must be paid to overcome the deliberately orchestrated shortcomings of the tool. Apple is more interested in directing customers toward their pay-for-Cloud storage than in meeting the needs of the customers. This is too expensive alternative to other tablet choices to have such an imposed limitation. Not everyone can, or wants, to use the iCloud, and other software limits even block AirDrop or direct connection-communication to some of their own laptops, including some MacBook Pros. The company’s values of Thinking Differently and being consumer responsive have slipped. Disappointing. So it is a good tool but purposely limited by the manufacturer, requiring rescue of third party purchased items. Be aware that an added cost to the iPad will be any external drive storage or back ups. You have to look to others to make up for this deliberate abandonment of the market opportunities by Apple.A missed opportunity to provide a valuable, comprehensive consumer experience.

All it takes is for Apple to really think about where it wanted the iPad's direction to go. They can either keep it as a glorified iPod Touch, or they can attempt to do something with the screen size they've given this product. With iOS 11 coming out this fall, I believe they've done just that. Finally, we've been given an Apple Product that's just as versatile as a MacBook and just as portable (in most cases) as a phone.I myself, a college student, decided to make an investment in this product. No longer will I ever have to use another notebook, as the Apple Pencil has essentially made that obsolete. No longer will I have to worry about carrying my gaming laptop around, and finally being able to take this with me on the go.Right now, and until September, this ... And that's not a bad thing: the speakers are loud and heavy, the screen is beautiful, and using it is just as fun. But what will truly make it a gamechanger, is the iOS 11 software it will carry. That will certainly give it the edge against other 2-in-1s and I foresee Apple's iPads will once again grow in it's industry.TLDR: Screen is big, Software is great, and a college student is happy and ready.

Combined with a wireless keyboard it can perform most of the lighter weight tasks of a laptop as well, increasing its versatility. It certainly doesn’t have the horsepower or app support to do 3D modeling or tasks of that nature but that is not it’s purpose. This is an “idea machine” and digital art platform!

I purchased this after painstakingly comparing between this and Wacom products. it's difficult because there is no 100% perfect product for me (that would be a roll-able 42" flat pad with MacOS that is touch responsive). Here are the top selling points for me: the drawing responsiveness with the Apple Pencil is beyond any tablet I have ever experienced. While I would love a larger tablet, it is large enough not to feel too cramped (like the smaller 9.7"), it's very portable, and the display is fantastic (in fact, as a designer, I have moved to presenting from it, I can make notes about changes and picks with the Pencil as I go). I have yet to see any software or screen lag, it is just so fast.Downside: Adobe has only been focused on releasing toys for iOS when it ... I have yet to see any software or screen lag, it is just so fast.Downside: Adobe has only been focused on releasing toys for iOS when it comes to image-editing (Fortunately, there are a ton of great software titles that are great, including Procreate, Adobe Draw and Adobe PS Sketch and so many others). One more thing that makes up for Adobe's lag in releases is Astropad which converts the iPad Pro into basically a Cintiq like product working with your Mac: Photoshop solved (mostly, as it's not that portable, unless you are lugging you laptop as well).
I was a little skeptical about the original iPad Pro though I enjoyed the sketching experience. Instead, I held off and later bought a Surface Book. I totally underutilized that laptop, as I also had access to a more powerful work laptop and a desktop at home. I really wanted the sketching experience but didn’t enjoy the surface book like I thought I would. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great device, just didn’t fit my needs. I sold that laptop and when the second gen iPad Pro came out I was hooked. The new screen is vibrant, fast, and perfectly sensitive. Sure it’s a little expensive for a 256GB tablet, but I envision I’ll be using it for years and helping sell work for my design firm. If you love to sketch and consume media, this is the best device available.
I use this ipad pretty much for entertainment uses (games, news, movies, drawing etc). Display & graphics are vivid and this bigger size is perfect. I bought the ipad version that does not have ‘cellular’ service included, which would raise the price of the ipad I believe about $100 more (aside from also having to pay a monthly fee for the cellular service). The ipad I purchased accesses the internet using a ‘wifi’ connection only, which is available pretty much everywhere nowadays (home, coffee shops, restaurants, hotels, etc). I use mine primarily at home or hotels. I download movies/shows to view offline so I have something to watch when no wifi is available. I purchased a Zulu case on amazon dot com to securely hold/transport this beauty. Overall I’m very happy ... MoreI use this ipad pretty much for entertainment uses (games, news, movies, drawing etc). There were only 2 left at my local Target store so I ordered it online to reserve it then picked it up later the same day, which is great so I didn’t have to make a mad dash right away to go get it. I have an older/smaller ipad2 that still works great, I just wanted the option of having a larger screen when needed.
Been an iPad user since Gen2. My iPad has been a required element of my daily routines. Whether it is working thru emails, reviewing a document, or surfing the internet, far easier to type on than my iPhone and didn't require powering up my laptop every time for a quick message or two. What makes the 12.9 unit better than my previous ones is the multitask capabilities. Want to binge watch Netflix while catching up on your emails at the same time? You can with this beauty. I purchased mine with the keyboard that works as keyboard, stand, and screen protector. Unlike the days of old where you had to separately charge your keyboard, now you plug in the iPad and you're done. The keyboard is powered by the iPad. GENIUS! Even my wife who was in love with her 10" iPad and kept saying mine looks too big... yeah. After a weekend of repeatedly borrowing mine for a minute... we bought her one too.
The iPad Pro 12.9 does a great job of supplanting a laptop for the majority of computing tasks (with the inclusion of the Smart Keyboard - review of that on the product page).Screen real estate is generous, especially for web browsing and reading articles or forums. The speaker quality is wonderful - I have no trouble filling my apartment with the latest podcast I want to listen to or with music. Lacking in bass, but minimal distortion overall. The high volume levels are surprising! Also able to drive more difficult headphones that phones may have trouble with. AKG 7XX are no problem for the device, and I'm looking forward to using Hifiman HE 4XX with it.With the smart keyboard, even lengthier posts and emails are a breeze to write, and the 256GB storage space ... There is a 3D modeling application that utilizes the pencil as well (the primary reason I purchased this was for that software) which allows me to do some concepting on the go.The battery life is fabulous - I don't think I've had a smartphone or laptop last *all day* and this one does it.Besides juggling a few apps to get used to the iOS ecosystem, it really was a fabulous purchase. If you don't need the Apple Pencil, though, the Chromebook Pixel may be the choice for you in this price area, especially with its nicer built-in keyboard.
iPad 2 was my first iPad and I was in love with the tech. Since then I've owned the Air and 2017 9.7 model. I always felt the 9.7" was perfect, but seeing the 12.9" size in stores had me wondering if it would be even better for me. Well I've been using it a month and I'm not so sure now.Watching videos is fantastic. I can keep it on my desk and everything is nice and big. Multitasking is great. Having 2 browsers open, plus another app as a swipe over is great and something I couldn't do in a usable way on my 9.7. It's perfect if you are resting it on a flat surface, but I never type that way and makes it very difficult to type on the screen in my lap or on an angle. Using it in bed is bulky, hard to fit on my nightstand, and gives off a bright glow even with brightness on zero. I don't like how some websites stretch the whole screen and almost seem too large when I'm sitting on the couch. Finally, there are not many case choices compared to the smaller form factors which is disappointing. But overall this thing is super fast. I edit can edit video, photos, and write music and it works flawlessly. All apple needs to do is add trackpad support and this would be an amazing laptop replacement.
I am the first to admit that I gave Apple a hard time regarding the iPad Pro. In comparison the the Surface Pro, I said the iPad Pro could not compete. I was definitely wrong. The iPad Pro is an excellent device for productivity and getting things done. As an executive, I use it for near everything from working in Excel to using it for presentations. Unlike my Surface Pro (which I love), the iPad Pro crushes it in regards to battery life and a stability. My surface has failed me so many times in meetings that I wanted to throw it. My iPad Pro is always ready to go and has yet to fail me. The handwriting is the absolute best experience and never lags. What I like most about the iPad Pro is that the applications are built well. This shows that you do not need bloated ... MoreI am the first to admit that I gave Apple a hard time regarding the iPad Pro. In comparison the the Surface Pro, I said the iPad Pro could not compete. My iPad Pro is always ready to go and has yet to fail me. The handwriting is the absolute best experience and never lags. What I like most about the iPad Pro is that the applications are built well. This shows that you do not need bloated software to get things done. No, I am not a graphic artist needing photoshop in its full capacity, but I can edit quite well with Affinity or Pixelmator. In short, I make business happen and this device helps me do that. I wholely recommend this device.
