This was not unexpected. The M1 Max with 64GB RAM (and no dedicated video, of course) rendered the exact same project in 1 hour 18 minutes with the exact same settings. The fans never kicked in and the battery charge stayed at 100%. Very impressive. The display is warmer and brighter than the previous 16 MacBook Pro. Not sure if this is a pro or a con as it will impact color grading and photo editing. The battery life is very impressive.Addition of SD card readerCons -The unit is noticeably thicker and heavier than its predecessor. The MagSafe cable is too short.I preferred the USB-C power connection as I could power the computer from either side. I realize I can still use USB-C for power, but then what's the point of the MagSafe connector? No Touch Bar. I may be one of the few people in the world that liked the Touch Bar. Apple finally got it right on the last model with the permanent escape key. I miss the dynamic brush size changing in Photoshop.Overall an impressive upgrade, but I will miss some of the features and the thinness of the 16 i9.

The computer is noticeably thicker and heavier than my previous MacBook Pro, a 2017 edition. It was a good trade-off, though, as it is comfortable in your lap and stays nice and cool while in use. That huge battery doesn't take long to charge, either. Plug it in for 30 minutes and you'll regain 50% charge. It charges fastest using the power adapter that comes with the computer and plugs into the mag-safe connector but even charging over USB-C is fast.Overall, I'm very pleased!

I do photography and there is this cool PS Action that uses Retouch4u and applies all the AI engines and my window laptop would take 5-7 mins for ONE image. This joker on the other hand take 45-50 seconds. Yes less than a minute!! Same goes for Topaz suite and all their plugins. This thing just flies. I highly recommend this product. Trust me, it's worth the price.

I'm a creative professional. I've work in most digital mediums (graphics, photo, video, etc..). I have always made it a point to buy the most technically capable and speced-out machine available whenever I'm upgrading to a new system. My last Macbook Pro I purchased in 2013 and featured a 500GB SSD drive, maxed-out at 16GB of ram, and ran on the fastest (intel) chip Apple had to offer at the time. Making that choice got me a system that lasted me faithfully for nearly 10 years. It wasn't until probably last year (2021) until it started showing its age. So save the money and invest it in the bigger SSD drive space. That said, there really are now words for the quality and craftsmanship of these new MacBook Pros. They definitely motivate you to explore and do more creatively and productively.

Pros: The Battery life is good for a small computer. usability overall is easy, and fun. The device is practical in terms of usage and functionality. I CPU runs various applications to a good standard. Yes, this is possibly the best laptop I have ever bought or used.I would recommend this to anyone in need of music Daws; Cubase, Pro Tools.Cons: I had to buy a Usb 3.0 converter in order to use a standard USB 2.0. This was a minor usual extra which is fair enough due to the sleek size of the computer.

Apple's newer security is also a limiting liability. The T2 chips in the newer Intel Macs impose serious restrictions in the name of security. Let me preface this review by saying I've worked as a professional graphic designer, photographer and video editor for over 20 years and have worked exclusively from Mac laptops for that entire time (I've never owned a desktop computer and work remotely from all over the world)... So when I say this machine is bar none the greatest leap forward in Mac laptop performance EVER, I do so with a deep well of experience putting these machines through the ringer.I regularly work with 3-5 GB photoshop files with hundreds of layers, ultra high-resolution photography and spend a good amount of time editing 4K video and this machine is absolutely unparalleled in its ability to keep up with even the heaviest of workloads. Tasks that would have gobbled up every ounce of processing power in my previous MacBook Pro don't even seem to make a dent in this laptops capabilities. It's also incredible to me that I can have half a dozen resource hungry applications running at once and the laptop can still sit comfortably directly on my lap (I've only heard the fans come on twice in all my usage thus far which is nuts). My previous MBP would melt the skin right off the tops of my thighs if I'd worked directly in my lap using this many resources (I adopted a lap-desk years ago because my laptops used to get so hot).I'm so happy to see Apple producing a truly PRO level laptop that can hold its own in the toughest of real world working scenarios.

I've had nearly every version of professional Macs starting back from the Mac pro 2008, iMacs, Trashcan, and iMac Pro. Every single one of them were fully spec'd out. We run a media house so reliability and speed are vastly important. I was always a little underwhelmed with all the previous iterations. This thing though is a completely different story. I've never experienced that big of jump in performance. This thing completely smokes our 18 core $13K iMac pro. And it's pushing three of the new studio displays. Funny thing is, we got it mostly for our travel productions but it's currently the strongest machine we have. Well, hopefully that is until we get the Mac Studio Ultra we ordered. Two macbooks, two faulty batteries on arrival
10 February 2023

Initially purchased a Refurb class A macbook, same spec as this new one but battery was faulty, said battery requires service and would not work if disconnected from the mains. Purchased exactly the same model but NEW, unused, sealed but very slight damage to the box. On arrival I attempted to charge and again, exactly the same problem as the refurb grade A machine, the battery was faulty. Must be a faulty batch, although reading various reviews it would appear some macbooks do have battery issues. On a positive note, the macbook did feel good quality build, the screen quality was excellent when it was running from the mains power supply, but just let down by the battery issues. Purchased exactly the same model but NEW, unused, sealed but very slight damage to the box. I say I would not recommend it, but that is because I received two macbooks and both faulty. If they were working without issue my view probably would be totally different.

Very impressive

This item arrived in a timely fashion and was in good condition with only a few scratches and very very minor delamination on the screen (hardly noticeable even when the screen is off and definitely not while it's on). The system is very snappy and the battery life is great for a used 7 year old item. I'd estimate I'm getting about 5 to 6 hrs use on a single charge when doing regular tasks. I'm a first time Apple user and so far I'm very impressed with the durability and premium feel of the item. If I didn't already know it there's no way I could tell this was a 7 year old unit. There's no way you can go wrong with this purchase.
