Best Buy's service was excellent.Apple and Microsoft I am not so excited about. I have been using a similar computer for a number of years [still works fine], with Microsoft Office. Microsoft requires an annual renewal. I could not renew MS Office without upgrading OSX. The needed OSX upgrade was not allowed on the existing computer. That's a conspiracy!The new machine and new version of MS Office have enough changes to make life miserible. I am currently using the old and new computers in order to function.

I downloaded Big Sur and found that not only had none of the compatibility issues been resolved, but that now my HP office printer would print everything I could wish to print—including MS Excel files—but not files created in MS Word. The “print” option in Word had been disabled. It’s maddening. I don’t know what can be done except to see if at least Big Sur somehow might be uninstalled. Even then, I’m not sure it would reverse the damage. Again, I think a clear warning of the risk users face in upgrading their iMac’s operating system might have been considerate.The dilemma going forward is that I’ll buy a new desktop computer eventually. Actually, I was considering buying a new laptop soon. Do I dare I buy another Apple product when Apple no longer seems committed to backward compatible? If I do buy a new machine, will the Apple-compatible peripherals I use still be Apple compatible? Will the files I’ve created in Word or Excel over the last decade still be fully accessible? On the other hand, if I do buy a new Apple product, and struggle through the compatibility inconveniences and costs of getting things up and running, do I ever again dare download a macOS upgrade knowing that the new software may damage my system in some way that I can’t possibly anticipate or fully correct? I loved the clean look of the machine and price new was less than the comparable iMac here at B&H.Being the penny pincher that I am - I had purchased many Mac products over the years as refurbished and they all looked new, were well packaged and ran without issue - I decided to purchase a Certified Refurbish unit from the Dell outlet store. As I mentioned, I loved the look and features of the Inspiron 27 7775 with its infinity edge screen and thin bezel and easy upgradability, plus I relied on previous experience in purchasing refurbished Macs to sway the final decision. So I ordered the refurbished Dell with Windows 10 and all the power I needed to run Photoshop and Illustrator for my work at home.When the package arrived and I opened it there were no red flags... until I turned the unit on. I was immediately greeted by some sort of Windows decision prompt telling me of some disk issue that I had never seen, or heard of before and I’ve been working on a PC for over 6 years. I immediately called Dell support, since I did purchase the premium support package for this machine, and was connected quickly to a very courteous and helpful person that walked me through the initial process. I gave the support person access to remote into the machine and after a bit of time all kinds of things started to go south for this computer; eventually we did get into the desktop area only to have the computer abruptly crash with the screen going black and an odd video pattern cover the screen. After 24 hours of intermittent support and resetting the machine back to factory settings I told the support person that I was done with this machine. Graciously, I was given a refund and I came back to the world of Macintosh which brought me to B&H.The 2017 27” iMac, as sold by B&H, has all the bells and whistles that the Dell had and more! I decided that I would purchase a new Mac to counter the previous experience, knowing that the machine I got would be bug free from any issue that I had encountered with the Dell purchase. Yes, I paid more for this unit, but it is just as beautiful in its timeless design and certainly and powerhouse of a machine with the Intel i7 CPU and the AMD 580 GPU with 8 GB of RAM, and there is something to be said about the value of having the peace and mind of knowing you made a good purchase. The 5K screen is stunning and a delight for the eyes. While I only purchased the 8 GB of RAM it’s plenty for now and I’ll soon upgrade that in the near future. I can’t say enough for the B&H purchasing experience and the savings over the same machine purchased elsewhere.There are drawbacks, although no fault of B&H… I’m talking about the iMac’s small Magic Keyboard and Magic mouse. The mouse in particular is disappointing. It’s super low profile makes it very difficult for doing the type of work I want to do in the apps I use. The sliding scroll surface is cool but I find the mouse fills awkward and fatigues my hand rather quickly, so that was the first thing that I put aside. I pulled out an older Logitech wireless mouse to use now and will replace it and the keyboard with Logitech components. Specifically, the Logitech Craft Keyboard and the G603 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse.I high recommend B&H for a purchase such as the iMac, but also for all your photographic and video needs. Service is prompt and support is always a chat away when you are on the web site, whether you are just shopping and in need of help.In conclusion… I wanted to love the Dell, and perhaps I would have if purchased new, but in the end the experience me on a journey that quickly help me refocus my love of the iMac.

The screen is so clear, color is fantastic, the only thing I get annoyed by is Apple's automatic brightness changing, but otherwise the performance of this computer has always made me appreciate Apple's optimizing, and protection from outside sources/viruses etc. It has run smooth as can be, and only gets a little slow when I'm running multiple browsers and adobe suite programs at the same time, and Spotify (I know, tech people cringing at this LOL.) Im no fan of all-in-one machines, but I needed SOMETHING new, after all this time, OWC has reasonable used options, and the hardware upgrades between 2011 & 2017 models are impressive (if only Apple would stop breaking the OS).
I was surprised to be able to still find a new (box never opened) 27" iMac since Apple doesn't make them anymore. I knew that this computer is a few years old (2020 model) but love the 27" screen and just wanted to make sure it wasn't used or refurbished. The person I was communicating with via chat was very helpful and assured me the box was never opened and they even let you keep the script from the chat for your files... so I placed the order. In my case, the situation was complicated because I live on Maui and Best Buy is on Oahu so it had to be shipped to me... Everything went perfect and I'm super happy with my new iMack! I'm already looking forward to future purchases from Best Buy because I came away appreciating the professional way they handled my transaction.

I am now more creative, more inspired, more positive about project work than ever before. To anyone who can afford it, I highly recommend this machine and know that it will easily win a place in your heart as it has in mine.
